Arroyo on IL.

What the hell is wrong with this guy?

It looks like Paxton will pitch at some point during the three-game series between the Cardinals and Red Sox from May 12-14.

I guess we were due for an Arroyo injury… of course it happens when he’s on fire too

Four middle IF'er on the IL: Story, Mondesi, Arroyo and Chang.

Will Hamilton get a look-see?

Has Kike turned the corner on SS D?

0 Errors last 5 games

2 Errors last 12 games (both in 1 game)

6 in first 12 games.

Doesn’t seem like it.

He’s been playing through injuries most of the season. This one he just can’t push through. Not a full time player.

Probably.

I can see him talking some time to adjust. He still occasionally looks a little green out there, however…

So now Bobby D is the backup SS/2B?

I don’t know what the f*** he is. Hamilton should have been called up. At least he can field 2b/ss and pinch run.

Agree 100%, and if Hamilton hasn’t been called up by now with all the injuries to the IF he probably never will.

Doesn’t seem like it. At this point, it’s very telling. Why put him on the 40 man and not use him?

Agreed. At least they try to use Ort…

And possibly swing in such a manner that bat and ball meet by accident…

Hamilton does not have the skillset of a guy like Rafaela, who was protected not to use in 2023, but for the future.

This situation reminds me of Duran situation, where they held off calling him up.

They didn’t have a slew of injuries in front of Duran; they simply just didn’t need an outfielder at that time.

Also Hamilton is 25, unlike Rafaela. If he’s not ready to use, why he even protected? Over Ward?

They didn't need an OF'er? Our OF was close to the worst in MLB, last year.

We had the 4th worst OF fWAR in MLB, last year and the 6th worst season in the last 2 seasons individually.

I'm not defending protecting him over Ward.

I made the point he is not in the same class as Rafaela- too skilled to leave unprotected, even if not ready for 2023 use, per se.

Maybe, they felt someone would take him, and they think, over time, he will grow into a worthy player, but who knows if he will, or not?

You'd think he's playing FT SS in AAA and doing well. He can even PR. We have 4 middle IF'er down, and he's still not high enough on the depth chart?

I remember with Duran, the thought was his defense was so bad, we didn't want to place him in a position to embarrass himself.

In 2021, correct. I figured out, later, this is what you meant.

Pitiful OF in 2022?

You mean the one Bloom and Cora assembled by trading away Renfroe to get JBJ?

Having "he can't play but LF" Verdugo and Cora's best friend Kike in CF?

The OF assembled by the management?

Indeed!

But I'm just the resident Bloom apologist.

What does hamilton have to do to get the call? He deserves the call up and the opportunity. I'm not really buying in to the righty lefty thing. Arroyo, as talented as he seems to be, just can't stay on the field. Hamilton has done the work and brings a great skill set to the table.

I agree in theory, but these guys ended up being right on waiting to call up Duran. Maybe Hamilton has a major flaw they know will be exposed at the big level.

He certainly seems like he has done what it takes to be the 5th string call-up over Bobby Dee, to me.

In 2022, Duran was more part of the problem than part of the solution…

I wonder that myself.

Hamilton is hiring the cover off the ball right now. Showing power worthy compromising his speed.

Soxprospects.com lists his defense as a liability, but sometimes they overstate a player’s shortcomings (an ironic flip from their previous style).

So I’m confused, too…

I will say waiting on Duran looks good so far, especially since his age was the only reason not to give up on him.

Dalbec over Hamilton does make sense if they think Hamilton needs to keep playing…
