I dunno. How can you trust a player who can't spell his own first name right? :)

LOL That has always bugged me, but I suppose that's the thing about names. You can spell them and pronounce them any way you want.

I'm a believer in playing the guy who gives this team the best chance for winning on any given night, particularly when this team has a real shot of making the playoffs. The Sox FO must believe that Devers is not as good as Marerro or Lin or any other that the Sox may have waiting in the wings. Otherwise, Devers would be up. That being said, what magic elixer will occur in the next month or two to bring him along so that he is a better player? Will he come up in September and be really good? The Sox FO would have egg on their faces if that turned out to be the case.

So, assuming Devers is not as good now as Marerro and Lin, and we know they are pretty weak players, what should the fo do? Let the team play on with a handicap at 3rd? Get a questionable experienced third baseman and trade away good prospects for him? Wait and try to pick up a really solid third baseman and pay through the nose for him after the AS break? The choices do not look that alluring. Others have suggested picking up a SS and moving Bogey over although that is pretty far fetched to me, that remains and alternative, I suppose.

I'm from the old school, which means when you have an obvious problem, you make an attempt to solve it. Lets hope the red Sox FO is thinking along those lines.

With Devers, the decision at this point is not as simple as playing the guy who gives the team the best chance to win. I'm sure he wouldn't be any worse than who we have now, but there are other things to consider. Again, the situation is not so bad that we need to make a decision NOW.

I'm sure that Dombrowski is doing his job and considering every possible trade scenario. Things will probably change a lot between now and the deadline as far as who will be buyers and who will be sellers. If a trade cannot be made, I'm sure we'll see Devers.

I've been volunteering at a nearby public middle school teaching ESL. I've seen some crazy spellings...

DeWain

Dewane

Tohmas

Sarha

Jimmee

I can't remember all of them.

Two had their last names spelled wrong on their birth certificates, but we had to use the official spelling on the transcripts.

My wife's name is Maria Lorena. On her birth certificate, get this, they abbreviated her first name! It says, "Ma. Lorena _________". She's had to get official documents signed by a notary to say that Ma. = Maria.

It's a crazy world.

Here's one for ya... my favorite.

IIRC it was in Florida where a mother had a hissy-fit when the school couldn't seem to get the pronunciation of her daughter's name right.

The name: La-a

Scroll down now..... :D

The correct pronunciation (according to her mother) "LaDasha"

My Father had what he called his Hall Of Name.

He taught at Boston College where one of his peers was ( spelled phonetically ) Agamendon Despopolous. My Dad just called him Aggie.

There was a Korean girl in one of his Biology classes called Yu Bin Fuk.

A fellow worker of mine was called Anita Humphrey--I need a hump (for) free.

Another was, I kid you not, "Harry Butts"--not even "Harold" on the birth certificate!

That's worse than A Boy Named Sue.

Same place as the other two, we had a guy named Mike Coffey. He was a fork truck driver that was often called over the P.A. system, "My Coffee, please come to Aisle 5."

The best was, "My Coffee just had a spill in Aisle 8!" The more humorous among us would call out, "My Coffee just spilled in Aisle 8!"

I have to wonder if this is actually true. A few years ago, we had the same story about a girl in a neighboring town here in Illinois.

I dunno.. it could be true, it could not be true, it could be that I got the state wrong. I'll admit that I see a lot of stupid stuff coming out of Florida so maybe that clouded my memory. :D

I think that's why they have thrown so many different utility guys into the mix. Just need to find one that can stick for a while. Marrero just doesn't have the hit tool to stick around. Maybe Lin can? Who knows?

Marrero's offense is practically non-existent, but the Sox are 18-11 when he starts and 25-23 when he doesn't. ..

They have a winning record when Pablo plays too. Might as well sit Xander and play Pablo at 3B and Marrero at SS!

Where in Illinois? NW burbs here.

Worst name I've seen was a cashier at a supermarket in Palatine. Her name was apparently pronounced "Shi-THEED"but the spelling on her nametag read "********"..

That makes sense. Marrero is only weak on offense, where the other guys who've been playing there have been weak on both offense and defense. It's a strange way to prove it, but it does substantiate that defense is at least equally as important as offense.

Are the Sox winning 62% of Sandoval's starts?

It doesn't matter. The W/L record when a certain player plays is completely irrelevant, especially in a SSS. If wins don't matter for a starting pitcher (King Felix 2010), how could they possibly matter for a 3b?

There's a rumor Sox are interested in Martin Prado from the Marlins. I don't know how that's going to work, as he's not a 1 yr rental ( signed through '19 and owed $28.5M ).
