To be fair, few relievers have good W/L records and he spent 3 years with Houston, last year with Oak, and this year with the Twins. That's the majority of his career with some of the worst teams in baseball. Not surprised with his W/L

Dig deeper though, Abad gets blown out in a close/tie games, not just because he was on s***** teams. He's just folds in pressure situations.

Expand on this...... I'm interested....

That team hit very well (over .277), had a s***** bullpen (a lot of relievers with era near 5) and a so so bench. The incredible thing about that team is that, despite those awful relievers, its collective era was 3.75. They won 93 games but the Yankees won 108, and Anaheim grabbed the Wild Card with 99 wins. Another weird thing about them is that they played better on the road (51-30) than at home (42-39).

Incredibly the 2016 Red Sox have a worst era (4.32) than that team. We are going nowhere with this pitching staff.

I couldn't have scripted a worse ending to a game.

Prices pitches very well, but the team is now .500 in his starts.

Abad keeps our record of recent acquisitions good starts at about 0 percent.

Beni's first ML game, and he ends up as the last chance and takes a called third strike.

All this after it looked like the last two late wins might have got us going on a nice streak.

What Abad way to start your Red Sox career...really left Abad taste in my mouth...hope it isn't Abad omen for the days to come...

Okay, I'm done. Really hoping Hanley is okay...

Bleacher Report

Hanley Ramirez to Undergo X-Rays

Boston Red Sox first baseman Hanley Ramirez reportedly suffered a wrist injury when he slipped and fell on the steps in the dugout following Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Seattle Mariners.

According to CSNNE.com's Sean McAdam, Ramirez injured his left wrist when he attempted to brace his fall. McAdam added Ramirez was placed on a cart and sent away immediately for testing.

If this is any sort of long term - could see Moncada coming. Obviously short term is Holt to 3B, Shaw to 1B

No, Hill will start playing most of the time at 3rd with Holt occasionally spelling him; he has been a regular most of his career and will likely perform much better with regular playing time, Holt is still not at 100%.

They are not going to put Moncada at 3rd base (or 1st) during a pennant race when he has never played an inning professionally at either position.

Even if it's not long term, wrist injuries are nasty for hitters. Papi had that miserable year after having one and Pedroia may be the poster child on it.

I think that they are honestly considering on whether to call him up sooner than later.

Swihart has always been the player with the highest ceiling in my opinion.

In fact, I see him as the #1 prospect on the 40 man. And he has shown the ability to adjust at the plate against MLB pitching. He has great foot speed combined with gap / doubles power. The kid is one of the very best pure athletes on the team. But a couple of dropped pop-flies and well - he sucks, trade him!

The Sox will really regret trading this guy and most Sox fans who notice will eventually be f***ing pissed.

He is also seen as a leader among his fast friends on the team. I say that is one intangible that could really have a positive effect on the moral of the team going forward with even more youth.

I much prefer a defensive catcher over an offensive one, but I have said many times that the FO reacted rashly in sending Swihart down.

I don't want to see Swihart traded, but if he can help bring back a top of the rotation starter, I think it needs to be done.

This game was on f***ing farrell. *******. He should have taken price out as soon as he gave up the single following the hr. This team has had alot of these heartbreaking losses. Each game's huge. Can't have these awful moments.

Precisely. Should have had a reliever up and tossing entering the inning.

What was the goal here? To get Price a complete game? To save the pen?

No. The goal was to win.

Farrell was a dumb f***. He is too slow to react.

I'm watching on extra innings so I only have choice of home team usually. For the Dodgers series I won't complain and I didn't mind Angels guys, they were actually pretty funny, but this Mariners play by play guy is so annoying and loud. I think he was legit jacking off while calling that RBI single by Heredia..

KC I didn't think were awful.

Orioles though.. Jesus Christ they are bad and they are so biased it isn't even funny.. I live in Maryland so I automatically get Orioles announcers for the 19 Sox/O's games a year.. yay..

Seattle,White Sox, Baltimore and Yankees are bad.. Blue Jays is also pretty bad but its mainly when Buck Martinez (I think) is play by play guy instead of Shulman, his voice is annoying.. Don't really have a complaint about any other team that I can remember.

I have Extra Innings also. They added free MLB.tv to subscribers this year. Have you checked that out? Getting MLB.tv for free is awesome for me because I go out of town a lot during the summer and this allows me to watch games while I'm away. And as SoxHop said, you get to choose your feed.

The Os games are still blacked out, so you'll be stuck with Thorne regardless.

Again, the homer and 2 singles (one a bloop came on 4 pitches). The pen started up after the bloop. How fast do you think he can react.

Weird thing is Zunino was 1-12 off Price and Cano 1-11 off Abad and both homer.

A sensible post.

Bench

1 Bryce/Benintendi until Young returns..then Bryce is gone...no point in having Bryce/Young combo obviously in LF.

2 Shaw/A Hill...platoon at 3B

3 Holt...back up every position except for catching

If Hanley goes down, then you have Shaw and Holt playing 1B/3B with the possibility of Moncada call up.

Do we have a right handed batter in the minors that can play either 3B or 1B?

I suppose Shaw can play full time 1B and Holt can relieve Aaron Hill at 3B against righties.

Sometimes you eat the bear (last two games) sometimes the bear eats you (last night).
If you are awake sometimes you can avoid getting eaten by the bear.

When games get into the 8th and 9th innings of close games, it is pretty standard to get the bullpen ready to go to lock down the game. Once the home run was hit, it was a 3 run game. Price was over 90 pitches. He wasn't going to get a complete game at that rate. We were going to need a pitcher in the 9th. A couple of guys should have been tossing in the 8th to get ready. After the first hit after the HR, there should have been a visit to the mound by Willis. Then Leon should have had one or 2 conferences with Price. There are ways to get your pen some time to warm up. Farrell gets paid handsomely not to mess up those late innings. The notion that the Mariners offense happened too quickly for Farrell to react is nonsense. Giving him an excuse is not sensible.

You need to be quicker about putting the food away before the smell attracts the bear in the first place. If you leave food out too long and decide to take a nap, that bear will probably wreck the everliving s*** out of your tent.

Completely agree. I notice opposing managers having more active bullpens throughout the game.

I know of situations where Bears came into tents on Scout trips because there was food in duffel bags. And the bear got the duffel bag and ripped the s*** out of it.

What's really enlightening is all the tweets that follow the initial one. They are hilariously ALL OVER THE f***ING MAP. Some saying Farrell is a bozo and some saying he did nothing wrong.
It is simple --the ones who said that he did nothing wrong, are wrong. And his slow reaction to go to the pen is not limited to last night -- it has become a pattern.

@overthemonster has generally horrible opinions. That twitter feed is basically a pom pom squad for whatever the Sox do.

I stand corrected - I keep forgetting Hill is alive.

But I do not doubt the possibility of Moncada getting a whirl - and I do expect some roster machinations late in the month to get him playoff eligible

The combination of 1) not having a ready bullpen, 2) throwing the Italian Kid under the bus just after he got off one, and 3) throwing a guy who doesn't yet know who he's playing for into a spot like that is "Farrellesque." It's not the idea of not playing them; it's the fact he does not recognize a game that has extra important written all over it.

I am concerned about the injury to Hanley until we get an update.

Sox are still not done with the testing yet as of 30 minutes ago.
