5-2??

How did that happen? Still not gonna watch since they allowed  two runs without a hit. If I wanted to watch Little League baseball I can go down to the local park.

As much as I blame the actual Red Sox players for the past month, tonight's absurd inning when the Tigers scored was because of the absolutely ridiculous call by Detroit to force Boston to try to pitch, catch and throw a waterlogged baseball in a deluge between lightning bolts so dangerous they made all fans take shelter.

Tigers can suck it and Tolle is my new hero.

Maybe and just maybe the Baseball Gods will bless us again moving forward. This game went as bizarre as it could get.

I thought it was official after 5 innings.

If my memory serves me well, I was probably wrong. The Sox were losing after 6 complete innings. They scored 5 in the top of the 7th. If the game was called before the Tigers batted in the bottom of the 7th, the score would revert back to the 6th inning and Detroit would get the win.

If this is wrong, someone smarter please correct me.

Again, it's the umpire's call for the game to continue and not Detroit's call.

I think they changed the rule a few years ago specifically for situations like this where it's beyond the fifth inning, a team takes  the lead in the top half but the game is stopped before the home team finishes the bottom half.  Now it's treated as a suspended game and completed later.  It's a better rule.

Whitlock finds trouble with 2 outs, often with 2 trikes.  He clearly is better than all but Chapman in the RS pen, but he is far from a closer type.    Does what he can , mostly well but can be hit..  Uses a lot of pitches per his appearances.

Moon, I told you Whitlock is not very good. If we need him to pitch the 8th inning, we're in trouble.

Other than Crochet, has anyone lived up to their new contracts?

Went to Tops' super market this morning and discovered that both A&W Root Beer and 7-UP 2 liter bottles were on sale for a dollar, but you had to buy 4 bottles. I jumped all over that. A&W is the best root beer, IMHO.

Not to get too nit-picky, but isn't all root beer good?

nope. a buddy of mine has a small quick stop near me that has, at one time or another, carried every brand known to man. i think i've tried them all and there were at least a couple that were flat out nasty.

Tolle was amazing despite the bullpen trying to blow the save again!!!

the Anthony wrist injury is troubling! Broken hamate bone???

Guy is incredibly fragile. As I said on other post, it should be a major concern.

Biggest win of the year, and the unique type of game that could boomerang on the league.

Coming back late with multiple RBI hits was a first, but the resilience was even more impressive after how the Tigers were able to score two gift runs off Tolle.

The stadium warned everyone to take shelter except Red Sox defenders, none of whom could grip the waterlogged ball and make accurate throws through the monsoon and lightning bolts. Narvey made a dumb chuck and Andruw made another while slipping in the swamp trying to avoid a python headed for his noggin.

Then a Boston offense that had every right to pack it in and dry off suddenly broke an 0-for-2026 streak in the clutch: Duran, Abreu, Rafaela, Mayer (good for him, enough of this "young guys fault" when they're all young guys playing a young guy's sport).

The Sox prevailed, even when we knew Whitlock would make it scary because for some reason holdover Bailey hasn't told Tracy that Whit can't pitch on back-to-back nights,

And Detroit is done -- Skubal's gone, protecting his kabillion-dollar future again like when he left his USA teammates to die in the WBC -- and the Tigers just choked what should've been an easy win vs. a doormat...

... slowly pulling their sox up, painfully pushing themselves off the floor.

NO!!!!

Ollipop root beer is horrible.   Apparently it’s made from carbonated water, sassafras roots, and the tears of orphans…

Whitlock has not been very good this year. His velo is down. He isn't generating many whiffs or chases. This is the worst he's looked strictly as a reliever.

Whitlock has not looked the same. Chapman, too.

Nobody looks ready to step up and take up some slack in the pen.

We've already run out of starters that might have been able to help.

Pitching was supposed to be the strength that carried the worsened offense and then some.

With half the staff on the IL, there is little hope for a near term winning stretch, and even treading water for at least a week or two seems too difficult.

Virgil's Root Beer is a ripoff. Not good.

Other bad ones: Zevia, Dad's, Abita, Stewart's.

Most of the fancy root beers are kinda crap. You're better off just going with A&W, Mug (for floats), Barq's, IBC, etc. When you go for root beer, that's what you're thinking of anyway.

No is Barq’s still around? Its been so long since I’ve seen it, I assumed it was only served at that Great Malt Shoppe in the Sky…

On Chapman, while he is at an all time high for 1st pitch strikes, he's near an all time low for 0-2 counts. He seems to be not controlling the zone with that second pitch. His strike throwing % is down a bit from last year and batters are putting the ball in play more often. He's also getting barreled really hard.

ERA 0.84

xERA 4.82

Publix has it near me.

Per the internet, you can get a fountain Barq's at McD's, Chipolte, Wendy's and many others.
