They floated the idea of broadcasting the games at a frequency only dogs could hear, but decided it would be too costly.

Plus most dogs know how poorly that team is run…

I think I pulled a left pectoralis muscle, maybe the clavicular head, opening up the sliding door that was frozen.

But Monasterio went yard and Campbell cracked another good oppo hit... so I won't even mention the names of the 1-2-3 batters who went 5-for-8 -- in Ks.

Would their initials be Anthony, Rafaela, and Abreu ?  But as Moon notes, it's insignificant at this point in time, and likely really is .

Game was on NESN but with Minnesota feed.

In case anyone missed it, the Twins announcer called one of our batters Ramoan Anthony.

I don't expect AL Central guys to know entire rosters of all clubs in the other divisions, but the player who finished 3rd in Rookie of the Year? Ya know, last year's consensus Number One Prospect?!?

yeah, he also mispronounced Abreu's name. must be something in the water with them.....they have an announcer (Tim Grubbs) in Wichita that mispronounces everybody's name. he's freakin' awful.

I think Cora's line-up choices give us a look at his intentions. I think we see this as the general template, but maybe some tweaks are made for L-R starters.

1. L Anthony

2. R Story

3. L Duran

4. R Contreras

5. L Abreu

6. R Durbin

After this it gets murky, but he seemed to like Narvaez, last year. I'll go with...

7. R Narvaez

8. L Mayer (R Romy)

9. R Rafaela

Posted

I noticed fangraphs projects a 2.1 fWAR for Durbin.

They project Contreras as 2.2.

Here are some selected projections:

2B/3B:

4.5 KMarte, 3.9 Bichette, 3.8 Bregman. 3.7 Neto, 3.4 Hoerner, 3.1 Donovan

3.0 Semien, 2.9 CJ Abrams, 2.8 G Torres & Devers, 2.7 E Tovar, 2.6 Keaschall

2.5 Meidroth, 2.4 Paredes. 2.3 B Stott, 2.2 Okamoto, R lewis 2.2

2.1 Durbin, A Bohm, 2.0 Murakami. 1.8 Polanco, 0.6 M Shaw

1B/DH:

2.7 Schwarber & Alonso, 2.5 Yandy Diaz. L Arraez 2.3

2.2 Contreras

2.1 Rooker, 1.3 E Suarez

Fred, I'm sorry but I have to put you on ignore for a while.  It's not because I dislike you or think you're a bad fan or any of that.  It's strictly because too many of your posts are of the downer variety.  I decided this when I read your post about Rafaela k'ing on his first 2 ABs of spring.  That did it.  Now I know you will likely respond that you're just reporting the facts and it's too bad the facts suck etc.  Nobody disputes the fact that he did indeed strike out twice.  It's your response that depressed me.  I'm talking about an actual physiological response where my spirit sagged.  I realize that some of this might sound comical, which is partially intended, but I'm quite serious about the downer thing.  I just turned 70 and life is too short.  Anyway I just wanted to explain.  Go Sox.

Welcome to the 70 club.

Suit yourself, but IMO you are taking this WAY too seriously.

I recently just joined the club.  I only mentioned it because my wife threw a party to end all parties, and felt like it should be recognized.  I pride myself on never, ever being surprised, and I was just staring at all these people, with no clue as to what was going on.

I'll join the 67 Club in a few months, and I feel like I aged 5 years in the past year. Does that count as 70?

I have him on kind of a TL/DR internal mechanism.  It isn't so much the disagreements, as much as I know exactly what he will say.

I'd say roughly half the folks in here side on adding a slugger in the middle, and half side on adding a #2.  I can debate that all day long, but it's a debate at the margins.  A 3 WAR slugger or a 3 WAR #2 won't make that much difference.

But if one is going to be negative on every acquisition, then there is no real point on me reading the post.

67+ (5-1) feels like you are in the 71 club.

But Sweet just gave up two HRs.  Looks like Fred's prediction of 0-162 is looking more and more likely.

Especially since Sweet is projected to be our closer.

Especially since the Sox are very unlikely to get that next regular season win at any point in the next 4 weeks…

Those announcers were really terrible. DO can be pretty boring at times, but I'll take his boring national broadcast vibe over a bad broadcast any day.

Ah, Rock and Roll High School -- which makes me think of Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Dunno why... probably the Cars and Phoebe Cates (red bikini's a better image than the latest whiteout).

My rock n roll high school was like Backstreet Boys and Rob Thomas.  1999/2000 didnt rock particularly hard.

Late high school started moving on from boy bands and studio paint-by-numbers formulaic down-the-middle "rock" and into more garagy sounds like strokes, hives, vines, and eventually killers.

There is a Rock N Roll High School movie that the Ramones are in.

I believe Joey Ramone was the only Ramone to have more than one line. The only thing they could get Dee Dee to memorize was "Hey pizza! Let's dig in!" and he could barely do that because he was out of his mind.

The movie was supposed to originally feature Todd Rudgren, but he declined.

I don't think I was there -- but then again, I forgot the whole 1980s... or was that the 90s?
