Put yourself in CB’s shoes AZ says “I want Bello, Early, and Campbell” would you pull the trigger? I’m trying to gauge how bad you want Marte cuz I think it’s gonna hurt like that.

No way I say yes to that, but I dont hang up. I say Bello OR Early and you can have Crawford or Dobbins instead.

Are we better today than say beginning of September 2025?

1) Sonny Gray  (32 GS/180 IP) > Giolito (26 GS/145 IP)? 3.6 WAR vs 2.0WAR

2)Crochet, can he repeat his 5.8 WAR?

3)Bello, can he improve on his 1.9 WAR (28GS, 166 IP)?

4)Devers, his 2.0 WAR at DH is gone

5)How to replace Bregman's 3.5 WAR (114 Games)?

6)Anthony surely will improve on his 2.7 WAR in 71 games.

7)Abreu had 2.4 WAR in 115 games, is he still a platoon guy?

8)Rafela had a 3.8 WAR pretty much on his defense alone. Will he be more productive offensively?

9) Can we replace approximately 50 games from starting pitchers no longer (or injured) with the team?

IF including Anthony was a part of Skubal deal and guarantees 2 back to back world series rings, would you do it?

We are not only worse, it's not close. We can't even be the same. We need to get BETTER.

I'd trade anyone for 1 sure ring.

I don't see any end to our window.  In fact, I'm not sure the window has fully opened.  In 2030, we'll still have:

  • Crochet
  • Bello
  • Anthony
  • Campbell
  • Rafaela
  • Harrison
  • Narvaez
  • Mayer
  • Early
  • Tolle

Does anyone in baseball have a better 2030 team than us?

My short answers is we are the F**king Boston Red Sox we should ALWAYS be in the Window…..

longer answer…….. I’ll answer this question in the winter of 2029…. We could have 32 teams by then, hard salary caps etc. Injuries, Devers type meltdowns…….. let’s get through 2026-2027 before we worry about 2030. I get your point though, RS have some great pieces that could be around for a long time….

Alonso to meet with Red Sox, and O’s on Tuesday.

They're only two of the teams he's meeting. Anyone with an interest is the report, which would make sense.

Anyone that says no to this is out of their mind.

Imagine if the O’s outbid the Red Sox?

I'd be okay with that, if we still get what we need in other ways.

I worry we won't.

I guess to me it would depend on what the bids were? None of these top FA are going to be cheap as Bregman wasn’t.

It was just a crazy concept, imho, to be talking about windows.  You're right, we should always be in the Window.  Past that, adding present talent, controlled talent, prospects, etc., even we don't have the longest window in BB, I'd be a little surprised.

  • C Narvaez
  • 1B ???
  • 2B ???
  • SS Arias
  • 3B Mayer
  • LF Campbell
  • CF Rafaela
  • RF Anthony
  • SP Crochet
  • SP Bello
  • SP Tolle
  • SP Early
  • SP Clarke
  • CL Perales

Obviously some things will go sideways.  But I've followed BB for a long time, and I don't remember seeing any team with this type of forecast.

Could be!

I ask a question, assuming we only have one major non pitcher addition.

Which of these positions is most likely to be left to in-system options?

1B: Casas, Romy, Campbell

2B: Mayer, Romy, DHam, Sogard (Campbell?)

3B: Mayer, Romy, Sogard, Eaton

(Note: Mayer can play only one position, at a time, so the 2B/3B choice is really Romy/Sogard/DHam)

I'd say we need 2B or 3B more than 1B, but Alonso can hit better than Polanco, Bregman or Bichette.

I'd be fine with no Marte and adding the 31 year old (today) Alonso.

FYI: Bregman will be 32, soon. Schwarber will be 33 and Suarez 34. Bichette is the young one (will be 28,) but he has very little power and questionable defense. I would not choose Bichette to break the mold on large and long contracts. He's a decent 122-128 OPS+ guy, but a .470 SLG is not what we need. His .337 OBP is not high enough to make up for the lack of power. He did hit 29 HRs way back in '21, and many players add power as the reach their 30's but he's been going down in HRs: 29>24>20>4 (1/2 season)>18.

We need a big boost in the infield, and we are not adding power in the OF or at catcher/DH.

Who do you suggest we get?

Alonso is 1 year younger than KMarte and sucks on D at 1B. Marte fills the big need at 2B.

I do like Mayer and Anthony, and we should expect some gains from other pre-prime players like Abreu, Rafaela, Narvaez and prime guys like Duran, but the chances are, some will not. I'd like to  count on Anthony & Mayer as putting us over the top, but we need to first replace almost 2 FT'er PAs from Devers, Bregman, Refsnyder & Lowe, first.

what you and I want doesnrt matter. The Sox will fill their needs with guys they can get on reasonable ONE YEAR deals.

I heard you the first two times! LOL.

I could see the Sox looking to sign shorter, maybe not 1 year deals, for a guy like Merrill Kelly, E Suarez or Polanco. Maybe two of 'em.

sorry about the multiple posts. not sure it went through so i guess i sent it more than once my bad..

those guys are likely minor upgrades but none of them excite me that much. i am sick to death of all these 1 year deals. Myself i'd rather just see us go with our own home grown guys than bring in more 1 yr rentals.

1.) we sign Alonso for 1B. Casas to Worcester.

2.) we sign short stop Kim and move story to 2nd base. Mayer to 3b.  Improves infield defense a lot!!!

3.) trade Duran and young pitchers for a number 2 starter!!

According to Cotillo, and McAdams the Red Sox, and Arizona have discussed a trade for Marte. Also said the Red Sox have shown that word interest in some catcher from the White Sox named Teel.🤫

Sox are interested in a lot of guys. Familiar pattern from almost every offseason from recent memory.

Everyone is interested in everyone according to everyone this time of year.  It's the same thing in other media markets......except maybe the A's.  There headlines probably read "According to sources A's are not intersted in trading for Ketel Marte"

True that the Red Sox are always interested, but Brez has shown he will make a trade with Sale, and getting the Cro Man, but he hasn’t shown he will lock up a long term, big money FA. I believe he knew Bregman would only be a year rental, and then would deal with the situation when it come up again, which is now.

He wouldn't be doing his job if he, or any of the 20 other assistant GMs, didn't answer every call.  I'm pretty sure that he didn't go into last winter thinking 'I have to have this guy Narvaez'.  In many ways, it is like fantasy BB.  I read every trade offer, but only respond to 10% of them, only make a trade 5% of the time, if that.

I do worry about Kim's .701 OPS (.685 since '24,) but the D would be nice- up the middle.

The corner infield D is worse with Mayer (not Bregman) at 3B and Alonso at 1B (not Lowe/Romy.)

I like Kim a lot.  I especially like that he will likely be a 3-year deal, which fits the Arias-Story-SS/2B window well.  Story leaves in two years, Kim slides to 2nd in his 3rd year and Arias into SS.  And finally a farewell to 4-out innings.
