Exactly!

Its a last resort, but one I would keep in my pocket. He can "demand" anything he wants, but he isn't going anywhere. He just signed a HUGE contract. If he refuses to play his assigned position then he can be suspended without pay for "conduct detrimental to the team". Lets see how long he lasts in that scenario.

Again, no one wants this to happen, but at the end of the day its a TEAM sport. Personnel decisions are not made by the players. They are made by management. I have confidence that Cora will work this out with him.

His huge contract might look like a bargain given the $40mill AAV to Bregman, who is 4 years older…

Bregman sign up for 6 more years I don't know about?

It might, but thats sort of beside the point-unless Devers is already unhappy about his just signed contract after looking at what Bregman got.

I don't think he's unhappy. I think people are looking for reasons to be mad at him.

Agreed, but you do try to get that best employee to make less mistakes, right?

Nobody knows how long Devers will be upset, or to what extreme. I, for one, can't blame him, since the team made promises to him, just a couple years ago.

I will ask, what about the vet that has been around as long as Devers and is really great at one aspect of his job and pretty damn good at the others- Bregman? Just because he seems willing to do what the team asks, and knew going in he may play 2B, does not change the fact that he is may be asked/told to move from his sweet spot. Bregman is a real pro and a great teammate. He's willing to do what is asked, so his stake means nothing in this whole choice thing?

Do you really think that, because Bregman has been around as long as Devers (ALL WITH ANOTHER TEAM) that he should have equal status with Raffy on the Red Sox who signed as a teenager, and has spent his whole career with them. I don’t know what Bregman was told with his negotiations with the Red Sox, but voluntarily going to a new team he should be willing to do what is asked of him. That doesn’t make him a better pro, or teammate IMO. You said Bogey was a bad teammate for not moving off SS for Story, and I disagree. I don’t think Bogey was a bad teammate, and I don’t think Raffy is a bad teammate either up to this point. I didn’t expect Raffy to just voluntarily hand 3B over to Bregman especially since he thinks as highly of himself as a 3B, and what he was told by the RED SOX when he signed his big contract. I’ll repeat what he was told by the RED SOX.

Obviously I can't speak for others but I am not "mad at him" at all. That said, I don't think he handled the news conference well at all. A simple "no comment" would have been much better. And flat out refusing to move to 1B or DH, at least initially, wasn't a good move, even if he wanted to express that to Cora privately.

If 27yo Devers was a free agent right now, what do you think his contract looks like?

Let's give Devers some time to let this settle.

Nobody can blame him for being upset, especially in light of the promises made to him a couple years ago.

Sure, we wish he handled it differently, but given time, I think his position will soften. If not, we'll have to deal with it- one way or another.

One quote not reposted, often was this by Raffy...

"... I'm open to listening..."

Mookie may be a great teammate and human being and all, but Chaim told us the Sox "weren't willing to make that bet" to pay him his market value.

Bloom added, though, that we "know what's coming," so they were willing to "surround Raffy with talent..."

... quick, crowd them all around Devers -- don't let him escape now.

She blinded me with Bregman...

He had already spoken to Cora, and Brez privately on Friday, so thinking about it over the weekend hadn’t softened his stance. I see nothing wrong with him telling his feelings when asked by reporters. It shouldn’t have been a Surprise to Anyone what he said,

Bregman is a vocal clubhouse leader. Dhevers is not. Does this mean that 3B should be handed over without a conversation? Of course not. However, Bregman will play a bigger role in creating the culture of this team in '25 even though Dhevers has been here since he was a teenager.

We never heard directly from Dhevers, it was just the telephone game between reporters, and interpreter and him.

No disagreement at all, but I can see fully why Devers feels, or felt the way he does. So far Devers hasn’t done anything, but made a few comments. I did hear someone say yesterday who was down at the Fort that Raffy looks heavy.

There have been no new concerns levelled from Raffy today. He must have squashed his beef last night when hanging out with Bregman (very fluent Spanish speaker).

Raffy always looks heavy. When has he not? 2017?

I'm disappointed you could say such a thing.

Because the AAV is 31.7...

Yeah, he's just naturally a big man.  He's not Pablo.

I’m certainly willing to see how it all plays out once the season starts.
As long as Devers is flexible….

Casas has now put in his half a cent worth in saying that Raffy should stay at 3B, and Bregman should be at second. Said he wouldn’t take anyone else over Raffy at 3B. It’s a must listen that only Casa could do.🙈🤭.

It appears as if Bregman will be flexible enough for both of them. Really comes off as a true leader.

He also said

We know he's just playing this up for Dhevers' self esteem. He's not out here trying to dig into anyone.

Maybe, but you never know what Casas will say, or do.

You legitimately think Casas believes Raffy is the best 3b in the league and should stay there for 10 years?

agreed. some people are born to follow and some are born to lead. nothing wrong with either. i think Raffy is a follower and though he might not like it. he will do what is asked of him,

It goes beyond that.  When he first joined the Dodgers, he took infielder practice frequently.  When asked about, he replied “in case they need me there.”

Devers isn’t Mookie, and shouldn’t be held to that standard.  Because he’s not alone.  A few posters on this thread mentioned ARod moving to 3b to accommodate Jeter.  Did anyone mention this happening because Jeter refused to move off shortstop?

I do think Devers will eventually move and Bregman starts his career at 2b.  But at some point, Devers might see where his future is…

he's always been at third and feels comfortable there. but yeah, maybe he'll see it some day.

I haven’t seen any quotes from him indicating that the news conference (or any discussion about it before the deal was done) was the first he heard about a potential move to 1B. Do you have that quote from him? The only quote I read from him is that “we talked about it”. Didn’t specify when.
if there was no discussion held with Cora before the news conference that’s on management.

Common sense, look how he reacted and what he said.  His reaction was clear cut and dry that of someone who was shocked and confused.  I think his reaction was based more on that rather than him being a baby or unreasonable.

If you stubbornly want something less anecdotal because you're sold on holding Raffy to the fire consider this:

Up until just a week ago the Sox were quoted saying Bregman would play 2nd base.

It's blatantly obvious they hadn't told him yet he wouldn't be playing 3B.

He might be a great teammate, but we've seen ever since Xander left that this team hasn't had a leader.

Yes we all saw how Mookie Betts reacted when he found out by the media in a press conference.....oh wait, that's not how it happened.

Maybe best "overall" 3Bman.
