The Boston Red Sox are acquiring left-hander James Paxton in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers, sources tell ESPN. Done deal.

Well Pax is an arm, and a LHP at that, but how much help he’ll be well just have to find out. He hasn’t been all that good especially of late. Last 4 games 17.2 innings- 25 hits- 17 ER allowed.

Yet he looked good beating Boston (or did the Sox just look bad). Wonder if LA senses an expiration date -- it is almost August.

The Red Sox are sending DSL corner infielder Moises Bolivar to the Dodgers for James Paxton.

Mata moved to the 60 day IL to make room.

Well he already received his mail there…

The Phillies, and Baltimore have made a trade with Hayes going to Philly, and the O’s getting some BP in Dominguez from the Phillies.

They have some better pitchers coming off the IL.

He's a #5 starter. That's all.

So that moves Criswell up to a #4, and Pivetta to the BP ? In seriousness, Paxton is a better fill at #4 or #5 than what the Sox have had for the past 3 months. He will get hit by any team , not named Boston Red Sox, but if healthy will eat up about 60-65 more innings.

Pivetta to the pen ?? It has been suggested by others and he did it before

It might really help the pen, if Pivetta can eat 2-4 IP every 3-5 games.

I don’t see Pivetta going to the pen at this point in the season even though he would most likely help the BP out. The biggest need right now is the backend of the BP.

Granted the back end needs a new arm, but Pivetta can cover those situations where Cora needs to stop the bleeding in the 3rd-4th-5th-6th , you know, like when Pivetta pitched in Colorado this week.

Interesting trade between two teams that are definitely buyers not sellers. I wonder what the Yankees plans are. Their fans are not happy campers these days.

Criswell will either go back to Woo, or to the BP IMO.

Buying teams often trade from strength on their 26 to fill another need on their 26.

I've suggested we might trade LHB Abreu for a carbon copy RHB OF'er. If another buyer needs a LHB and is overloaded with RHBs, why not?

We’ll find out soon enough on what Cora has planned.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw more trades like this - two buyers swapping their depth with each other. It’s trickier, because certain stars have to align for it to happen.

A couple years ago, the Phillies and Angels made a fun swap of Brandon Marsh for Logan O’Hoppe. It was one of those depth for depth deals that made so much sense, no one saw it coming…

Yandy Diaz (RHB who plays 1B/3B- not very well) is reportedly on the trading block. (The Rays placed him on the restricted list, about a week ago, for an "Undisclosed personal matter," so there is concern about that.)

He led the AL in BA, last year and had 22 HRs and a .410 OBP.

His 133 wRC+ since 2019 is top 15, but he is 32 y/o.

He is making $8M, this year, $10M next year and has a $12M club option for 2026 (no buyout.)

Once Casas returns, he could DH, but what about Yoshi?

I guess we could trade him, this winter (or Yoshi.)
