Brez did make moves. The BP got some badly needed help. It would have been nice if it would have been done during the AS break, but better late than never. Brez got help for the rotation. How much Paxton has left, and how much help he will be remains to be seen. Brez got some RHB help. I would have rather gotten JT instead, so we’ll have to see how much help Jansen will give them. It’s not like he was having a big year with the bat. Brez has made moves, and as I expected nothing big coming, or going, so now we’ll have to see how this all turns out.

According to the so-called experts, the worst trade approaching the TDL was what Houston gave up for a not very good Kikuchi.

I also think San Diego went way overboard for Tanner Scott…

Zeferjahn, Kavadas, Lugo and Yeferson Vargas is the cost.

There’s your rule 5 crunch trade right there.

Also, Sox will need room on the domestic reserve list too with all 20 draftees signing.

I don’t hate this trade

Honest guess for Garcia

Some combo of Lugo, Meidroth, Penrod, Sogard, Dalbec, and/or Guerrero…

I did poorly…

It was a given going into this TDL that teams looking for pitching would be gouged.

They gave up the pre-season BA #27 for a rental relief pitcher who is probably going to pitch 10-12 innings for them.

For a point of reference, Roman Anthony was #21 on that list. Kyle Teel was # 62…

I would have liked a starter, but the Sox got two good relievers. I give Breslow a soft six…

Sounds about right.

I had Yorke and Lugo on the top of my to trade lists, so I was not surprised. C Coffey might come back to haunt us, but Portes surprised me. He could hurt, too.

A 6 seems right. I wonder how close we came to Flaherty.

Was Anderson traded?

To me, it seems the Kikuchi & T Scott trades were the only clear big overpays, but I'm not expert on these types of deals for prospects.

I had hoped we'd get Flaherty. The tigers didn't seem to get much for him.

The Fedde trade looked like a steal, to me, but I'm glad Brez mad e a real effort to improve our weakest areas: the rotation & the pen.

At about 4 pm est my son looked at his phone and said, "No!"

... "Sports Illustrated online" noted the Red Sox said they were willing to trade Anthony for Blake Snell.

We both knew it was BS, since Boston didn't even want to pay Snell last Spring, never mind throw in a top prospect (just for the Bagwell of it).

I figured if the rumor had any legitimacy, it was planted by some scholar in the front office -- to hopefully make the Yankees panic and trade Spencer Jones or the Martian for Snell.

But nobody fell for any of it...

Bees did the smart thing: he went dumpster diving to make it appear as though he got some help when actually all he really got was TRASH. The players know what he did and so do us knowledgeable fans. Of course he was wasting his time. He might as well have done nothing. Let’s see how the players respond to him bringing in the trash.

Hey, the Dodgers will be DFA'ing a couple guys, so I'm sure Brez is waiting to pounce.

He did get some real trash in the Wingman who’s been DFA already, and the Yo Man who’s on his 4th team already this year, and should follow the Wing Man out the door. These two were worse than anyone they replaced.

The more I think about it, the moves Brez made were just a bandaid on a gaping wound.

By themselves, they look okay, but in totality, we came up way short of what was needed.

I think Brez did a better job helping the BP than he did the rotation, and a RHB.

The cost was just too high as it always is. You can't wait until the trade deadline to make your team unless you are going to gut your system like the Padres.

The Snell rumor was obviously bogus. Why trade for Snell right now?

Sims, Garcia, Jansen and Paxton are far from trash.

The best SP moved was Flaherty, but he only went to the Dodgers because he failed his physical with the Yankees. Given his recent history, this is not surprising…

Those are the types of moves every GM makes all year long. Not sure why people get so worked up about them…

Very easy answer is that every move the Red Sox make gets scrutinized, and gets judged accordingly, and most fans are fed up with all the dumpster dives, and these two were as deep as you can get.

I've always like Sims, but have to admit I got the chills when I looked up Garcia's comps on baseball-ref: age 28 -- Yohan Ramirez... luckily, Garcia is now 33.

Then I saw these: age 32 -- Heath Hembree; and #5 Most Similar -- Junichi Tazawa... and then I realized the bottom line. Relief pitchers, at one time or another, are all the same guy.

Hardly. We’ve seen worse, as has every team. And the Sox (and every team) will continue to make waiver claims. Most won’t work out, but some absolutely will. I don’t see anyone complaining about Criswell anymore. And right now, we could probably use John Schreiber, who was a definite dumpster dive as well.

Just because you want to scrutinize every move Duran make it right. Wingenters will come and go regardless of who is in charge. And I’d rather have an active GM/CBO who takes these chances than one who doesn’t…
