Multiple injuries?

Most teams can survive having a utility infielder in the lineup every now and then. Not many teams go far when they have to use three of them for multiple consecutive days…

Even then, why rush them? Just wait until some UTIL guys get DFA'd and grab them. For now, just use Westbrook, Contreras and Alvarez if needed.

B-R has us at 55 ER and 26 UER.

That's 1.3 UER per game, which extrapolates to 211 for the season.

We really need to hear from Tom Werner on this.

He doesn't hold enough sway. He was right. They should have gone full throttle. They should have won more games last year but had bad defense. Sox would be better off if he was the primary owner.

Has not been officially added to 40 man yet. Need to make another roster move since they acquired Vladimir Gutierrez (RHRP).

Yes, MLBTRs says Story was moved to the 60 Day IL to make room for Gutierrez. Another move is needed for Booser (it probably won't be Jacques.)

I used fangraphs, which may not be updated from yesterday.

None are on the 40, so why not just add Kevin Smith?

I don’t think the Sox are rushing Hamilton, Reyes and Valdez. They are what they are - players who hold the roles they own due to limited skill sets. They’re all 25 and over and done what they can in AAA. Players like Westbrook and Alvarez might be better at some things, but they’re not going to completely fill any gaps either.

Will the Sox claim anyone? No idea. The Angels and Orioles have been playing DFA volleyball with Livan Soto, and the Sox ignored him. The Yankees just DFAd Kevin Smith, and I’d be surprised if Boston claimed him. Neither of these players is a hidden gem, but both at the bare minimum possess a skill the Sox are not getting from their farm system vets - the ability to play SS at least adequately.

Maybe now that Refsnyder is up, Boston will commit to Rafaela at SS. But doing so to get Refsnyder into the lineup full time didn’t seem wise to me.

They won't add them all at one. It will be drips and drabs as they put other guys on the 60 man or DFA Reyes/Hamilton/Dalbec/whoever.

I honestly have no idea who Kevin Smith is. He grades out as a 40 fielder, which is worse than Westbrook.

I thought the "3 amigos" comment was in regards to how soon Anthony/Teel/Mayer would get here.

Ref should only be platooned, and since he is one of the few Sox players who hits LHPs, well. We should be able to work it out.

Assuming Rafaela at SS, at least vs LHPs...

vs LHP:

LF Ref

CF Duran

RF O'Neill

vs RHP:

LF Duran

CF Rafaela/Abreu (DHam at SS and bats left-handed)

RF O'Neill

What's going on with Mata? He might be a 60 day IL candidate...

I saw he's expected back in early May. They could "milk it" to 60 days.

I read that Gutierrez is being optioned.

He's rehabbing. The 60 day would be retro, so that's a maybe.

If he's ready to pitch in early May, the 60 day IL would allow him to pitch in AAA for an extended period I believe.

Apologies to Comrade Vladimir. He's a starter, not a reliever. Not a f***ing good one though!

Moving Rafaela to short along with Devers and Grissom taking the field off the 'injured' status should stabilize our infield.

We have too many moving parts right now with Devers/Dalbec/Reyes (3B/SS/2B)/Hamilton/Valdez (2B/SS).....unreal.

It's 4/19 and we're looking under every rock to fill out the roster....I guess it's better than doing nothing.

My head is spinning......

When you start the year with a thin roster and you have injuries to Devers, Story, O'Neill and Grissom, it's just plain ugly.

A lethal combo of bad moves and bad luck.

Yup, and we knew we needed a lot of luck to stay healthy.

The Red Sox front office Assistant VPs walk the beaches like a search party, looking for valuable sea shells (they had to sell the metal detector they once used when digging up loose change).

But if they find any interesting stones, they are instructed to collect and send directly to Andrew Bailey for further polishing.

Reyes is just horrible defensively. They need to find a better UTIL. Valdez is probably a better DH, but hasn't shown anything this year. He'll be sent to AAA when Grissom is called up. I don't see much out of Hamilton. He shouldn't have been added to the 40 man roster by Bloom. I'd probably DFA after finding a replacement there too.

It's something to talk about. Injuries are a big reason the Sox are sucking. It'd be more frustrating if they were healthy and the Sox were 10-10 with a horrible starting rotation like we envisioned (though we may get to the horrible rotation as Giolito, Pivetta and Whitlock have all been injured).

Well, that's better than Bloom having them search the field for cow patties to polish.

What's soon? Pre-ASB? 0.1%.

I dunno, I'm starting to get a feeling it might happen sooner. Maybe for PR reasons as much as anything. The Netflix doc really needs something.

He's only a little younger than Volpe was starting last year. And Volpe has been a success.
