You think Henry cares?

The $17mill he’s paying Sale is the least money he’s paid Sale to not pitch for him.  I think the $100ish paid to Sale the previous 4 years was probably more bothersome…

He might care if it ends up as the difference between the 2024 team playing some postseason games or not.

Yep, that's what was reported.

Part of me wonders if Henry was so livid about Bloom not doing this and recouping that money that he not only fired Bloom for it, but gave a directive to Breslow to get whatever he could for Sale, end of story.

Hell, Sale might have gotten 2 Sox CBOs fired, and he's now working on a third!

(Note: most of this post is meant as wild ass speculation for entertainment purposes.)

Sale has given up 8 earned runs in his last 50 innings pitched with 60 k's.  Guy is a bum

worst trade since Mookie

Nothing is even close to as bad.

Even the Renfroe for JBJ, DHam & Binelas is looking slightly better, now, and falls way short of beig as bad as this one.

The Renfroe trade isn’t even in the same stratosphere as the Mookie trade. That one is unforgivable. The Sale trade looks bad so far but not that bad

Chris Sale is pitching Game 162 in a half hour or so to get the Braves into the playoffs. If they lose, they go home.

Sale hasn’t pitched since the 19th, and the idea was to hold him out to an elimination game, and know its here.

Sale out with back spasms ... which, as a Sox fan, feels like a comfortable place

Wow! He waited until the last game of the season to not being able to go in an elimination game.🙈🤭

What's more unbelievable: the Braves' ace who just pitched an entire season of Cy Young baseball suddenly couldn't pitch Game 162 with the postseason on the line...

... or: the guy the Red Sox paid for five years (including this one) to be their ace - but instead was almost always injured - finally stayed healthy enough to pitch almost an entire season of Cy Young baseball that lasted until Game 162 with the postseason on the line?

Even though he couldn't pitch Game 162, Sale is obviously one of the main reasons the Braves are in the playoffs and the Red Sox are not.

Chris Freakin' Frail!

LOL.

Sale’s frequent injuries were instrumental in the Sox  not making the postseason more than once.

He was a great pitcher early in Boston and again in 2024.  But from 2020-2023, he was a source of repeated frustration and dashed hopes…

Frail Sale to Cy Young Sale.

Injuries are just a frustrating and inevitable part of the game.

But time machine bounce backs are usually not.

That’s why I don’t want the Sox to pursue Jake deGrom or Lance McCullers this off-season…

What would really be the difference between Chris Sale at age 35 having a bounce back and deGrom having a bounce back at age 37? 🤔

And deGrom looked pretty good in his small sample when he returned this year.

Like Sale he's always been an elite level talent.

i don't wish any ill will on Sale - I just found this objectively funny.

I bet Texas would sell. Should Boston buy?

I almost listed deGrom on my list of high-priced pitchers that we could trade Yoshida for. It would scale back his $37M x 3 remaining deal.

Basically, Yoshida at $18M x 3 for deGrom $37M x 3 would mean we pay deGrom about $19M x 3.

Our DH could be Refnsyder-EValdez or Ref-Abreu with Anthony in RF, which is a step up in DH and RF production projections.

Needless to say it's far removed from the realm of possibility.

But I would prefer the Red Sox go after someone younger if they're up for a big move.

That's what ATL fans said when they acquired Sale.

LOL

And we have no idea what Texas's plans are.  They invested a lot of money in Jacob, along with of course Seager and Semien.  They seem like a team that's still in go for it mode, despite a bad 2024.

The 2022-2024 Rangers are somewhat reminiscent of the 2012-2014 Red Sox.  From the outhouse to the penthouse and then right back to the outhouse.

There's just no comparison in the situations.  The Braves got Sale on the cheap.  That's what really mitigated their risk.

deGrom would be full price - 37 million * 3.
