And maybe allowing the CBO to adjust the FO as they see fit.

The only one who seems to come, and go is the HOBO. The rest stay, and some are given new titles the BOH.

This is the time you bring in an experienced GM to bring the team to the next level

I think that kind of limits your pool though, which is likely why the Red Sox are getting rejected so much. There’s only 30 of these jobs and half these guys are below average. How many of the other half are happy were they’re at. Rejection seems natural, especially when you cast a wide net, which many are missing, the Sox are doing exactly what they said they would hear.

How much is the reputation of firing past GMs hurting the Sox? I don’t think anyone answering that really knows. But they should cast a wide net, and they should consider guys who have been groomed for the job but are blocked elsewhere. You probably get more yes from that pool. Some guys were born for the job and have immediate success.

You have to hire the right guy, and not limit yourself to such a small pool of candidates. You’re also only as good as the tools you have at your disposal. Ownership will likely have to r sure that they’re willing spend resources to make the team good again to attract top talent.

The new titles is a fancy way to retain talent. Because you will lose guys in this industry.

Take Eddie Romero for example, he’s a rising star in the industry. He probably has his eyes set on the job here and if he doesn’t take it, he’s probably leading another ball club in 1-5 years from now.

One possibility is they are not getting interviews due to the Alex Cora Factor.

The reportedly offered Cora the job, but he turned it down, citing “not being ready yet.” “Yet” is the key word. To many, that means this might be a temp job that will involve training your replacement at some point. If you’re an experienced MLB GM/CBO/President of Ops, how appealing does that make this situation?

The only interviews they’re likely to get are people trying to build a resume, like Breslow…

We'll see if there's an influx of new interviews that need to wait until the World Series ends.

If not, I still say AC is in play for a new title if the Sox go internal.

Will November be "yet" yet?

Hasn’t Cora expressed an interest in managing in 2024? While he’s not committed, that seems most likely. But, hey Epstein was the guy whose was “not ready” once upon a time

Maybe he will be miraculously “ready” if the new boss isn’t to his liking…

I was actually thinking the brass may pivot to AC if he isn't to too many potential candidates' liking.

There are quite a few of people in our front office that have been around a very long time:

Henry and Werner '02

Kennedy '02

O'Halloran '02

Romero '06

I'm sure there are more down the line that have been around for over 15 years.

It seems the GM/HOBO job is the one most changed.

Port/Theo 10

Cherrington/Hoyer 4

DD (Hazen) 4

Bloom/OHalloran 4

That and team manager.

Cora 5 year (Roenicke 1)

Farrell 5

Valentine 1

Francona 8

Little 2

I know I must be missing someone, but other than Lucchino, what other big guy, other than GM/HOBOs have been let go?

Charles Steinberg? LaRussa? El Guapo?

Stories may note they took jobs elsewhere, but does the public ever really know what exit arrangements are made behind the scenes...

I knew I was missing some names.

I'm not sure how much turnover the average MLB team has in these top jobs, but it doesn't seem like a lot to me, once you get above the GM/HOBO job title. Even that was not such a big deal until Cherrington & DD left. Now, Bloom after 4 years has made it look like chaos, to some.

I read an article today that said the Red Sox have devalued their own job opening.

Chaos To some? It’s everywhere, it’s everywhere.

Henry has yet to interview a single candidate. An interesting bet would be: does the House elect a Speaker before the Red Sox select a new HOBO?

A single candidate? They’ve interviewed about 11 so far. That we know of.

They meaning Sam Kennedy and his level. None have had an actual interview with the owner John Henry according to yesterday's article in the Athletic.

Read an article in the BSJ this morning commenting on after 4 years of the premature firing of DD the Red Sox are suffering from the curse of DD. What did it get the Red Sox? Chaim Bloom, and that was a curse in itself.

Jim Jordan for Sox CBO!

Oh, I’ve been out of the news loop for 24 hours.

That is something.

When an interview for a job takes place it’s not just about a company seeing if a candidate is the right fit. At times the candidate is also feeling out the potential employer. Henry should know this.

The only thing that makes this not outrageous to me is if they plan on doing a second round of interviews about guys they’re serious about. He has to be there for that.

If not, Henry should make a public statement that he is an owner in principal and financial stake alone. The decision making process is 100% in Kennedy hands. I haven’t heard that.

Good point. The stories that have come out suggest that the new Sox CBO will just be a placeholder for AC...

The Sox are just hilariously inept at this stuff these days.
