I do not think you can assume Bloom was smarter than Dombrowski just because Bloom graduated from Yale and Dombrowski did not. One the reasons that Dombrowski is better at his job than Bloom is that Dombrowski could make a decision whereas Bloom dithered. Blooms educational background was in classical literature. I do not think classicists are taught how to make good decisions under pressure. Although the founding President and Grand Poo Bah of the Legion of Bloom, Moon may disagree.

Aren’t you making the same assumption about Breslow based on his education?

Stanford alum Sam Fuld turned down the interview, but isn’t he is the argument for smartest player?

Ken Williams and the 2005 Chicago White Sox.

Ruben Amaro got promoted form within to succeed Pat Gillick in 2009 where the Phillies won the pennant after winning the 2008 world series. So there is a former player who was a #2 in a baseball operation and became a #1 right after the World Series.

So, no "disrupt family" excuse is readily available for him.

I'm assuming he'll have no excuses, because he'd jump at any GM opportunity in MLB.

Raquel did say that she didn't want the promotion because of family reasons. She's already local and in house.

That's hilarious -- you know you just posted a challenge to a few bitter rivals here to spend the rest of the day yelling about Schwarber, Strahm and best of all, Noah Song!

I'm happy to feed them manna from heaven. It's the only thing that gives them life.

@tylermilliken_

Some interesting insight from

@Sean_McAdam

on yesterday’s Craig Breslow reports:

“A report in The Athletic Tuesday had Breslow “in advanced discussions” with the Sox, “interviewing for their No. 1 job in baseball operations,” but that may be premature, according to an industry source.”

He floats the idea of Breslow possibly being GM, with a more experienced option taking over the POBO role.

Also, that another external candidate has been interviewed that has not been revealed yet.

Breslow as GM, someone else as CBO and Eddie stays as Assistant GM? Why not just give Eddie the promotion and find the CBO? I don't get it.

+It seems there are already too many hands in the decision making. Why add another one?

I have met a lot of stupid people who graduated from Yale. Btw you didn't happen to graduate from there?

Sometimes these people have very little social skills because they're geniuses. literally, almost everyone getting in there is valedictorian. Aint no dummies.

But I'm sure you've met a big enough sample size of Yalees to tell us otherwise.

But intelligence is relative anyway. Show me one of the smartest man in the world and let's see how well he does if you air-drop him in the Congo. An ant is probably smarter than him there.

My two eldest sisters went to Yale.

There are many kinds of "smart."

Once again you demonstrate your poor reading comprehension skills. What I actually wrote was that Craig Breslow was once called the smartest man in baseball. I never said that I believed it. An assumption on your part. I have noticed over the years you are very good at making false assumptions and drawing erroneous conclusions from them.

If you must know it was La Velle E Neal a beat writer for the Minneapolis Star Tribune who called him that in 2013. I suggest you take it up with him.

I think this is an inaccurate description of Bloom. Bloom didn't have a hard time deciding, I actually think his mind was SO made up on things that prevented him from being able to make any decisions that could have benefited the ballclub.

"what? Efflin wants a few more milliion. NOPE, this is what I have him valued at" Having a hard time deciding something and making bad decisions are two entirely different things.

I agree. Bloom definitely has a much higher IQ than DD though, right?

I partied a lot down in New Haven in my younger and more vulnerable years. I had a lot of friends who attended Southern which is also in New Haven.

We use to ravage Yale parties, I remember walking into a rager once with two of my friends and we took 1/2 their alcohol while they stared right at us and my friend said to him "ain't so smart now are ya".

We were dicks.

Yes I have actually met a lot of Yalies. Several worked for me. I had to fire one for cause.

Kennedy was sold on Bloom, after Sam saw the name of the author of the top two books on Yale's reading list, the Iliad and Odyssey.

"This guy studies Homers!" he told John Henry. "Don't hire anyone who studies Whiffers..."

I think my seventh grade son hacked into your account for this dad joke.

Jealous much?

Of my sisters?

No.

All of my 5 sisters are very smart. In some areas some are much smarter than I. In others, maybe not.

We all get along, which is no small miracle for a family so opinionated and outspoken as we all are.

People can be very smart and horrible employees. I know this for a fact myself. You have to be smart enough, but after that you gotta do your job and not be a dick to the bosses family.

I got a million of 'em (well, not so much anymore).

I know a PHD who got scammed out of some funds on her cellphone... even with her husband yelling in the background not to give out any account numbers over the phone.

"It's ok," she said, "It's the bank..."

The fraudsters had cloned the bank phone number that showed up on her caller ID.

Yes Bloom was fired "cause" Henry found out he was not that smart after all.

Hmm, seems like you don't know what "with cause" means!

A lot of brilliant people have zero people skills. Being able to work with others is important for the vast majority of jobs.

A lot of dumb and in between people have zero people skills, too.

I'm not sure one group has a higher percentage or not. Maybe it's just that we expect better from "smarter" people.
