The axe swung today. My bet is he is bringing in a Dombrowski type to leverage the farm and get good again

Hopefully not. It doesn’t need to be one extreme or the other…

New Prediction.

2024 will be the year the Red Sox return to glory and become a serious world series contender. But there will be lots of shadows of Bloom on that team that spark the ultimate debate in here. There will be blood.

Whoever comes in will have an improved farm system but will have to make wise decisions on who to keep, who to trade and who to acquire through FA contract. Let's hope we someone decisive and with a winning mentality.

@PeteAbe

A few potential Red Sox candidates off the top of my head: James Click, Sig Mejdal (Orioles), Sam Fuld (Phillies), James Harris (Guardians), Ben Sestanovich (Braves).

Click, Fuld and Sestanovich are maybes for me.

Henry is going to need to loosen the purse strings if this team is going to be consistently competitive, no matter who the new GM is.

We are now 13th in team salary after being in the top tier for a long time. While loosening the purse strings doesn't guarantee success its a good start.

The good news is that the Yankees are #2 in team salary and they STILL SUCK!

The sun is shining at Fenway! The Bloom Cloud is gone!

True, but the man who mandated he traded Mookie is the one in charge of finding his replacement. Better hope he learned from his mistakes.

The problem is we have no idea what Henry "mandated." Thus, we use the name "Bloom" to refer to all of the personnel decisions made since he got here. I don't care who made those decisions as long as the RS now essentially have stated that they were bad ones.

There will be debates, but this whole idea that there has been a legion of Bloom lovers is totally unfounded. A few have defended him in some areas and have been called "apologists" or "supporters" for doing so, but I doubt anyone will bend over backwards to defend Bloom.

Now, if the next GM trades a bunch of his prospects or they become studs under the next GM and it lead to a ring or some sort of oter glory, then some will claim Bloom deserves major credit- kinda like what happened with Ben & DD, but I'm not sure sure about blood letting.

(It doesn't take much on this site, so maybe I'm wrong.)

All of them? or, enough to make the call?

Ding don’t Nloom is gone. Give me a hell yea!

Finally a sign of what we are going to. At least not to what Bloom was planning —whatever it is.

This is a good news. This disaster was unbearable. My guess Cora is gone too on October.

notin I'm prefacing this with I'm just stating my personal opinion which likely doesn't mean much at all. I truly believe that a majority of decent GMs could have done what Bloom did. We have been waiting for him to show us that he could do a few things that DD did. Let's hope the new guy/gal is an all-rounder.

I guess ownership felt that 2023 was not a rebuild year?

They weren't rebuilding nor contending. He made us plain mediocre.

You’ve been wrong all along just like Bloom. I kept telling you over, and over that what was most important was now, and not 2-3-4 years from now, and like Cora said what the Red Sox do, or don’t do in October is also most important.

He had to go. Wonder what will be the plan now.

Outside of me who do you think is jumping for joy the most. Alex Cora!

... because he may be a candidate to fill the new opening?

He has been quoted lately that it's time for a change, can't manage for as long as Tito, but loves Boston...

All? Oh. I see what you mean. I don't think all his decisions were bad, of course--he was well-dressed, polite to reporters, and doubtless brought good people into the organization we've never heard of. The decisions I'm thinking of are the obv. ones: getting rid of popular players, signing players with questionable health and legal issues apparently in hopes of getting a bargain, gobbledegook on what the 'plan' was, etc.

Maybe.

It would not surprise me, but if the next guy is given the same budgets and priorities, there could be very little noticeable changes.

The next guy might have a favorite manager who is not named Cora, too.

#1, because Bloom is gone, but #2 filling Bloom’s shoes could be an interesting solution.

Many feel the Betts trade was forced.

The Beni trade is still an incomplete grade, and if you figure the money saved brought us Renfroe, one could say that move was okay.

Letting JBJ go was great. (Bringing him back sucked.)

Letting Bogey and JD go, when their production had slipped for 2 years may prove to be a good idea.

We offered Nate a QO and a contract bigger than what he took from Tex.

When you are handed pennies for a budget, you end up with gobbledeegoop.

You still don’t get it that the priority is to be competitive now, and get into the postseason now.

The budget excuses can only get you so far, and you’ve made that excuse TMTC. He may have had some budget restrictions, but lots of teams have had them the last 4 years, and have made better decisions than Bloom has made.
