Well, I guess as far as kids' entertainment is concerned, I distinguish 'cheating' (which doesn't really bother me) from things like 'kidnapping teenagers for sex and photographing them' (proven or not), 'masturbating in public', 'S&M sessions with hookers', assaults over fantasy sports. But that's just me.

(I should also add: 'filthy rich CEOs holding their customers in contempt while stealing more money from them')

You left out being muscular. That’s also on your list…

Sox trade Schreiber to KC for pitching prospect David Sandlin.

BTV hated this deal, valuing Schreiber at $9.7mill surplus value but Sandlin only being worth $2mill.

Hopefully Sandlin can prove BTV wrong…

i actually don't mind this trade. Sandlin seems to have some potential and has a wipeout slider. Of course Henry loves the payroll savings too.

This is exactly why BTV is garbage at times.

Sandlin offers a ton more upside than Scheiber ever will.

Sure, maybe he doesn’t even reach the majors. But the Sox traded a relief pitcher, who isn’t their greatest, and depending on who is in the bullpen wouldn’t even be a late inning guy for a prospect who has a chance to a be starting pitcher.

Royals aren’t even going to that good this year. Interesting to see what CB does with this guy.

Sure, he hasn’t made any really big time splashes yet, but he’s a pitching guru who’s been getting back mostly all pitching in his trades so far. These are obviously guys he and his circle have identified as guys who they can develop.

1. But they are giving their fans reasons to get excited.

2. In the AL Central, they might be good enough…

It's hard to place a number of value of a player almost all of the speculation nature.

Schreiber was a damn good pitcher in '22. He was injured and was much worse in 2023, but one could argue he has proven what his "upside" is.

I'm not sure what to think of this trade, just yet. I liked Schreiber. He was not costly, either.

I guess we have to build the farm pitching up, so that is the upside of this deal. The draft is a ways away, and the results of our next drafts will not be realized for years. This is one way to try and jump start the process.

Brez traded a couple pitching prospects for O'Neill, and lost some to Rule 5, but I'm guessing they were not "his types."

He's added a lot of you pitchers and prospects:

Fitts

Slaten

Sandin

Campbell

Criswell

Weissert

Oliveras

Benitez

Judice

Schreiber makes $1.175 mill. That’s not even 1.5 times the league minimum…

He's making $1.2M, this year, which is less than $500K more than min wage.

If this was about money, we are in bigger trouble than I thought.

It does make it easier for Slaten and or Mata to make the opening day 26 man roster, or Campbell, Criswell, Weissert...

It will be interesting to see where soxprospects, com slots Sandlin.

He turns 23, soon and was in A and A+ ball, last season.

Or Winckowski, whom soxprospects has in Worcester.

The Sox are hopefully not stops about making Winckowski a starter. The bullpen had the potential to be one of the highlights of this team; why is Breslow trying to dismantle it?

Our rotation sucks: that's why, but I agree: Whit & Wink should be 100% pen arms.

I wish Houck and Crawford were, too, but someone has to start.

I think Crawford was fine as a starter. Houck, Winckowski and Whitlock need to stay on reliever roles…

One thing the Schreiber trade does do is open up a spot on the 40 man, since Sandlin (drafted in 2022) doesn’t need one yet.

Another move coming? In the next 7-10 days?

Crawford did fine as a SP'er, last season, but Houck did fine as a SP'er over 3 seasons:

OPS Against as SP:

.663 in 4 GS (17 IP) '22

.627 in 13 GS (59 IP) '21

.443 in 3 GS (17 IP) '20

'20-'22 as SP:

3.22 ERA (72 ERA- ranks 23rd out of 215 SP'ers)

3.39 xFIP (25th in MLB out of 215 pitchers with 90+ IP)

Posted

2020-2023 as SP only:

5.66 Winckowski

5.05 Crawford

4.76 Whitlock

4.51 Pivetta

4.39 Bello

4.17 Houck

xFIP

4.62 Wink

4.37 Crawford

4.17 Pivetta

3.97 Bello

3.78 Whitlock

3.76 Houck

The high moral propriety of posters here, and sports fans in general, always astounds me.

Funny you should say this as I'm constantly amazed how quickly sports fans will throw their morals out the window if it means their team has a better chance of success.

What makes you think our morals changed?

I've always been for giving people a second chance, and there is a lot of gray area in his case to know enough to think he is beyond redemption or forgiveness.

What did they see in Sandin that made them think this was a good trade ???? He reminds me of the college arm that looks good in A ball and flames out in double aa ball. If double aa hitters lay off the splitter (or cutter) he will walk more batters than winkleman

Posted

Again the trade was to make openings for both Mata and the rule 5 guy.

Brez obviously valued those two over Schreiber

Samdlin is just a bonus.

What do you see in him that makes you think he’s like a college arm that will flame out?

I’m certain no Sox fan have ever heard of this guy before today.

Obviously he has a high bust rate, but he seems to have a high ceiling. If you were trading for a guy more MLB ready, you were never getting anyone near that potential for Schreiber.

By all accounts this is a good trade.

I have no idea.

I think they wanted Isaiah Campbell on the 26 or are about to add a SP'er.

Judging stuff on tape is always harder than seeing him live. Maybe I change my mind after I see him in person

My guess is that Mata or Slaten will not be on the opening day 26 man roster, anyway.

I think this was to make room on the 40 for a SP'er, clear a slot for Campbell and build up our pitching prospect value and depth. Sandlin is in high A b all, so lets give him some time.
