It's really, really difficult to say, because if he told us what he really, really knows, we'd all give him a difficult time.

"Look, Cora is leaving. Payroll is going down. The guys we have now are basically what will be the Opening Day squad unless I can trade some away. We're in a holding pattern until the young guys get promoted in the next 2-3 years. I hope to hell that Bailey can fix these pitchers or it's going to be ugly."

Very little reason for optimism there. How many years does it take to fix the Red Sox? It's indeterminant. All the thousand and one e-mails posted suggesting trades and FA signings posted by Moon and others while virtually none have come to fruition. It's a tough time to be a Sox fan. If we get lucky, maybe some of the prospects will be the real deal. A 500 record if we are lucky. Perhaps a boycott is in order.

Boycotting is a bad idea. If you kill the revenue stream, they might just cut the budget that much more.

And if it gets too low, they might just move the team to Nashville…

What difference would that make? The only real loss would be the nightly radio broadcast, which has been part of my life for maybe 70 years.

I don't know how effective a boycott would be. I think Henry is so checked out and the Sox will still make enough to get by. They probably trimmed payroll because they anticipated a drop in revenue this year no matter what.

Inshallah. Then the A's can move to Fenway.

Hopefully. It will be nice to follow a team that spends for a change…

People on here complain about ticket prices all the time. Fisher did a BOGO for Opening Day!!!!!

@AndreesBolivar

Per sources I can confirm the report that places Edward Cabrera close to joining to Pittsburgh Pirates.

Oakland is a dangerous city.. You need two people to leave the house heading to the park just to get one to show up.

@JeffWilsonTXR

We talked to #Rangers GM Chris Young.

He doesn’t expect many more roster additions. Said club will remain open on Jordan Montgomery but also said TV uncertainty beyond this season is a factor.

Wild that Montgomery will wind up on a team that is not the Red Sox or Rangers.

Yanks might swoop.

Certainly possible at this point. All we know is he absolutely is signing somewhere at some point.

Any dark horse candidates? Angels, perhaps? Maybe the Twins?

It's ok, we can just wait until next offseason to sign a pitcher!

@rotoworld_bb

Phillies, Wheeler in early stages of contract extension

Oh?

If they’re avoiding Montgomery for that reason, they coups get burned. Not to mention the likelihood of whoever is left having a QO attached…

November: " I wouldn't sign this guy. It is known that players start to decline after age 30." ....... February: " I look for significant improvement from Yoshida this year." ................ Okay, whatever.

This poster likes his daughter’s neighborhood in Oakland. I’ve walked all the way up to Berkeley without worry.

The idea of what constitutes "prime" is usually between 26-32. With SP'ers, one usually has more concerns after 30-32, but I'm not sure if that is based on data.

Many hitters are still strong at age 30. Many have their career years in their early 30's.

I think it is reasonable to think Yoshida might improve after adjusting to a new culture, league and game, itself. We all know he might not.

Yoshida is a special case.

It's always good to have some insight that's based on actual real life experience.

But it’s also fun to pick on Oakland…

Plus, he's only 30. Most players don't decline the day after they turn 30. Some start before 30, but I'm guessing most start after 30.

A ton of career seasons came at age 30 or later, and yes, Yoshida is a unique case, in several ways:

1. Cultural adjustment

2. Game and league adjustments

3. Longer season (ran out of steam in Sept)

4. Should DH way more than play LF in 2024

There isn't a cliff at 30, 31, 32. It's just more of a risk for certain players, but mainly pitchers. For Masa, and most Japanese hitters, there is a one year learning curve built in. See: Seiya Suzuki and Hideki Matsui.

No to mention Yoshida only has 4 more years that will take him through his age 33 season. Do people think Montgomery and Snell are going to settle for 4 year deals? I think the early demand was at least 7 years, which would take both through their age 37 season (since they were born 23 days apart).

It really depends on the neighborhood in Oakland.
