No, it's not strange about the Rangers. They have deGrom and Scherzer on the payroll for '24. They have Eovaldi of course, They just signed Mahle. They're in pretty good shape with their rotation.

well they just lost Matt S till at least July. any chance that changes things with Montgomery?

Mahle is out for the start of '24- maybe half the season.

Breslow acts as if his sole purpose were to rehabilitate the reputation of Bloom.

You mean continue his strategy, but try and show it can work?

I truly hope you're right, but he hasn't acted yet as if he's onto the second part.

I hope I'm wrong. I think the sham continues, at least one more winter.

Their healthiest pitcher is Eovaldi!!

I'm wondering what the intricacies of this strategy might be. Sign a whole heap of marginal to average players coupled with bunches of reclamation projects and hold on to every minor leaguer who has shown any sign of actually being a prospect.

This is a tough one for me to say but outside of the possibility of a delivery of a boatload of money, what else might attract any premier free agent to Boston. If winning now matters to any of these guys, I don't see what the Red Sox have done to improve their stock.

We know good minor leaguers get promoted to different levels each season, so W-L records of A, AA, and AAA clubs can't truly reflect overall talent on revolving rosters. But the way the Sox horde and regard their actual prospects, they make it seem like teams in Worcester, Portland and Greenville should be much better than their 7th, 5th and 9th places from 2023...

Some positive team stats when looking at offenses for the International, Eastern and Sally Leagues: Greenville and Portland led in doubles; Portland, Greenville and Worcester were 1-2-3 in triples; Portland and Worcester were second in stolen bases, Greenville fourth.

It really is hard to say what they're thinking any more. But maybe they have some great surprises lined up for us (LOL).

The biggest surprise so far is that the Red Sox have been outspent by the mighty Royals.

If the Sox spent 100M on Renfroe, Lugo and Wacha, there’d be a line at the Tobin.

It's not what the Royals are spending, it's who they're spending it on -- players that Sox fans now consider normal acquisition targets for their own mid-market team.

They haven't made a single bad signing yet under Breslow.

The thought that's really haunting me is that the Sox are being run by a big committee now, with the CBO being the interchangeable part. This theory lines up with Dombrowski's firing, because there were reports about him not playing nice with other members of the front office, even daring to exclude Sam Kennedy from baseball meetings.

Didn't Dombro also bring in his own thought partner in LaRussa? At the time, it seemed like Tony would be an advisor to Cora, learning the manager business.

Still waiting for Breslow... to find his thought partner. Unless The Committee forbids it.

Winning has never mattered to almost all of them.

They don’t hire agents to be placed on winning teams. Most of them are egomaniacal enough to think they can turn any team into a winner. (Even if past history says this is obviously false.)

But they can’t just say “i want the most money, because it’sa bad look with the fans. So they say they want to win. They don’t mean it. (It can be a tiebreaker if money is equal.)

At some point, Breslow could acquire a 2b or something, just to placate his fanbase.

I’d guess right now he is trying for Yamamoto and reluctant to move in the meantime. However Yamamoto has a deadline of Jan.4th (ish) to make his decision, whereupon he will publicly say he is the new property of Steve Cohen.

Fortunately other teams that play outside of Los Angeles, Kansas City, Detroit, and St. Louis have been equally and in many cases even more inactive, so the other options once Yamamoto falls through are mostly still in play…

They also have Dunning, Gray and Heaney.

But who knows, maybe they will sign Monty. Some teams are really going for it.

That all seems a bit presumptuous to me.

Hell, even Nimrod was willing to have his contract reduced to join the Red Sox.
