If Montgomery does sign elsewhere, the Sox might really be looking at this:

Plan A (Miraculously) sign Yamamoto

Plan B Punt

No Snell?

No trade(s)?

I guess the Sox aren't interested in any of these cheaper starters, just like the last couple of offseasons, aside from Bloom's dumpster dives.

Oh well, I'm sure there's a method to their apparent madness...yeah, right.

I get more disgusted with the Sox FO with each passing day.

I'm kind of incredulous at this point. I can't think help thinking even Bloom would have signed someone by now.

I'm ready to pounce, but their number one target has not signed, yet.

Yes, we keep saying that, and maybe we can keep doing so until the New Year.

I can't help being uneasy about a plan that revolves around outbidding all the other rich franchises and/or presenting Boston as the best place to play right now.

Seems like a pretty ridiculous plan, actually.

I'm not expecting it. I am fully on the "It's all sham" wagon, but I do think there are still quality targets out there, and I'm not seeing many I feel are top priorities going off the board.

If we signed Wacha and Lugo, this place would be going crazy with disgust.

Why are we disgusted they signed elsewhere?

If we miss out on all the top priorities, it doesn't matter if we missed out on Wacha. We'll have just punted to 2025, anyway.

The problem is that the top priority may not be settled until January, and meanwhile legit targets like Gray and ERod are long gone. Lugo and Wacha were legit targets as part of a total revamping of the rotation.

We're assuming that Montgomery is waiting on the Moto resolution, but that may not be the case at all. If he gets an offer he likes there's no point waiting.

And as I've been saying, Moto seems like a longshot anyway.

Wacha and Lugo were not legit targets. ERod was on the Sox' radar, but the other team made a better offer. Gray has a history of ass against the AL East. The inaction may come back to bite them, but the guys off the board right now aren't the problem IMO.

Seriously, if plan B was Wacha and Lugo, I'd rather we just punt and go for 2025.

There are more options than Yamo, Monty and Snell. There are trade targets that could easily be our plan B.

I'm not defending their plan, but the off season is not over. I don't see missing out on Wacha and Lugo as significant, and I was pretty high on both as possible second best options, but there are more like them or better- like Imanaga, Stroman and maybe a coule others equal or better than those two. Hell, Paxton may do better than them, and I have him tier 4.

If I was a betting man I'd say Yamamoto is about to sign, and we will know by Monday. Just a hunch

I'm feeling that, too.

The only thing that may hold it up is some high bidding team asking him to wait for a better offer, for some reason.

I think teams have let him know what they are willing to give.

Are the Sox the last team that will be meeting with him? Heard there are others that were still interested that haven't met with him yet.

They weren't the solutions we needed.

Yes, I'd have prefered 2 from ERod, Wacha, Lugo and Gray than Giolito and Clevinger, but if that was the best we were ever going to do, it's a punt.

Maybe it would have been a 65 yard punt, but a punt is a punt.

I thought we were going to be the last team he visited.

Allegedly he's meeting with the Red Sox last, and he's pretty much met with everyone at this point. It's coming down to decision time. I think the Sox have a MUCH better shot at him than a lot think.

I think we are or will be a top 3 finalist.

I'd say the odds might be:

33% NYM

32% NYY

31% BOS

4% some sleeper

Expressing disappointment that we didn't sign any of those guys isn't the same as saying they were all we needed.

And how the hell is Gray, one of the best pitchers in the game last year, a punt?

If the FO is too ignorant/greedy/disinterested in signing anyone and decide to punt, I hope the fans do as well and Fenway is f***ing empty.

Sorry MVP, I was replying to Moon and hit the wrong reply.

I should not have included Gray. I actually felt him on a shorter deal might be better than Monty for 7. My bad.

You just seem like you gave up after Wacha and Lugo were announced.

Attention all agents, we currently have a dumpster fire in GM bres-slow’s office! All free agents now unavailable for signing with Boston

I agree, and there is still time.

I hope JH & Co. are feeling the fanbase pressure, and that it matters to them.

Don't even know how to respond to that last sentence.

I have to admit that I thought JH & Co. would feel enough pressure to make a quick signing this offseason. Boy was I wrong!

If the FO starts to feel the heat, and sense Yo Yama is No Yama, they may overpay for someone else and announce a signing before he decides.

If Bloom was still in charge, though, they'd be telling the press the Sox had considerable interest in Lugo and Wacha -- even at higher AAVs -- but just got outbid on the years...

But as of today, aren't the Red Sox still splashing around with the KC Royals in the kiddie pool?

Yes, the one difference is that we aren't the interest kings this offseason.
