If it was any team except the Angels I would be more concerned. The Sox will have it tied up by the 5th inning. Ohtani only looked good getting Devers to foul out on a center cut

Well this sucks.

Let’s hope Bello can channel his inner Whitlock and come back strong next time.

Runner up prize would be if he could settle down and give the Sox a few innings here

You’d hate to destroy the bullpen just to lose to Ohtani

You mean the Sox are going to tie it up at 10-10 in the 5th?

Bello settling in, shows a 75% improvement in runs allowed over the first inning. I can only get the Gameday feed because of MLB.com home/away blackout rules but if the pitch zone is accurate Bello is putting some pitches in the middle/middle zone of the plate. Not good.

These morning after day games are so tiring!

Another "Cora is just so stupid" thread.

So let me try to explain this weak lineup.

First and foremost, as you have pointed out, it's fundamentally a weak lineup which has nevertheless scored a ton of runs this season. Even with Duvall, the Sox have just 4 hitters: Duvall, Dugo, Raffie, and Turner. Somehow they still score runs without Duvall, with Yoshida stinking it up, etc.

Second, as I pointed out yesterday and everyone ignored, the Sox are currently in the middle of playing 19 games without a break. And we all know Cora believes in giving his players days off throughout the season. The day off helps them and gives benchers some MLB time.

Third, Ohtani is tough to beat.

Fourth, the Angels have just lost 3 straight and have their best guys supporting Ohtani so they don't get swept--plus they had a day off April 13, the day before this series began.

Fifth, it's freaking raining--another good reason to rest your best players.

Sox called up Jake Faria likely to give IP today prior to an immediate demotion. I mean, they guy had an ERA over 10 in Worcester. They likely figured he could be called up, pitch, get DFAd and clear waivers all within 72-96 hours…

Bello has insane stuff but command is an issue. He found it late last year. He is coming off an injury. This is not a surprising development

I don’t know at what point people will figure out that he is not the next Pedro.

Pedro struggled early on too. But having anyone be compared to Pedro is a fools errand. Pedro was one of the best pitchers of all time

That’s a pretty bold statement. Most pitchers aren’t.

Bello sucks right now, he should have made 2-3 more starts in the minors. He had no spring training effectively.

Messy day to pitch , too many ups/downs for the pitchers . Angels will not want to expose Ohtani to a slip/fall and the Sox should let Bello study his performance from the comfort of the clubhouse. This one needs to be a rainout with all stats cancelled

Borbon? Junior or senior?

Dad was the Red in the middle of the Pete Rose-Bud Harrelson fight in the '73 NLCS. Lost his cap in the excitement, then mistakenly picked up a Mets cap and wore it. When someone pointed it out to him, he was so horrified he ate it.

There are some soft hit balls getting through.....not too worried about him.

He'll figure it out.

It's a horrible day to be pitching.

Cold and wet.

No freakin' chance of Otani ever signing with the Sox (unless we can put a dome over it on the days he pitches)

The good news is maybe if the delay is long enough, Ohtani won't be back.

Also good is Cora's decision to make this a rest day for Dugo, Raffy, Turner, and Kike.

No way, no how can the Sox beat the Angels with Bello starting against Ohtani. Later this season, maybe, but right now Bello is demonstrably not MLB-ready. He's a 2-pitch wonder with no command.

About getting the game. I'm getting it on mlb.com/mlb.tv. I live in North Carolina, so blackout restrictions apply to games against MLB teams who play in this state--specifically, the Atlanta Braves, the Washington Nationals, and the Baltimore Orioles. The presumption is that, by enforcing the blackout restrictions, MLB--actually, those three teams--believe they can force me to periodically drive 250 or more miles to see those games in person.

While I can remember looking at Sox box scores in 1949, I really became a Sox fan in 1953-54 when living in West Springfield, MA and getting the Sox games on radio with Curt Gowdy. I loved those games even though the Sox finished 84-69 in 1953 and 69-85 in 1954. 1953 was the Yankees' 5th straight WS win and 1954 was the year the Guardians won like 111 games in the regular season and lost 4 straight to the Giants in the WS.

I was at that game when Rose brawled with Bud.

I just checked Pedro’s stats. In his first season at age 21, his ERA was 2.25. I pray for Bello to struggle like that.

Always good to take a look at the back-ups. Duran K's in 3 pitches, and Tapia in 4.

Arroyo comes out to play 2b--good.

I remember condemning Crawford to the nether regions a couple of weeks ago. Now look at him--the pro from Dover.

Duran, meanwhile, looks lost at bat and in the outfield. He's in Yonkers and the game is being played in Boston.

Now that Boston is into the Angel bullpen, this game and the sweep are back in contention, although the lower end of the lineup needs to do something as does Tapia ( besides K)

He was never going to be. He's maybe a #2 if things break right.

Blackout only applies for 3 teams? I envy you. Where I live in western Illinois (on the border with Iowa), MLB applies Iowa’s blackout rules to us, meaning I can’t see games involving the Cubs, White Sox, Cardinals, Brewers, Twins and Royals. For the last couple years, I was getting around that via the use of a VPN (I’d connect through Phoenix or Salt Lake City) but they clamped down on that late last year. Figuring I’d be subject up blackout for roughly 20% of the season, I did not renew.

Joe and Will on XM radio have been fine.
