I just checked Pedro’s stats. In his first season at age 21, his ERA was 2.25. I pray for Bello to struggle like that.

Greg Maddux '86: 5.52

Greg Maddux '87: 5.61

Every pitcher is different. I'm not sure Bello has ever been compared to Pedro or that he should be. He has promise, but there are bumps along the way for young arms.

That's what happens with the bottom of this lineup.

Yes , the Sox as a team through 4 innings have only Devers double as a hit.

What is that stuff the ground crew put on the infield? Duran looked like he had excellent traction rounding first base.

Also, I can see every player's breath on close ups. So it is chilly.

Yoshida, in only his first month of MLB, has crossed the infamous Mendoza line , but regrettably in the wrong direction.

I like having guys that can go multiple innings out of the pen.

We don't have to be 'rigid'.

But why not rotate say Winckowski, Cutter and Houck as an example?

Obviously we won't need a long reliever EVERY game.

I'd say out of 5 starts, one would require 13th pitcher to pitch in an out of reach game, another one a tight game where you may go to say Schreiber.

That would leave 3 long relievers to piggy back.

Crawford held the line very well through the 7th. Now we need about 3 runs to eventually get back to Jansen in the 9th

Agree on long relievers, 3 or otherwise, because they can be invaluable.

Crawford right now looks good enough to start again. Decent stuff, but excellent command, which is exactly what Bello does not have--command.

Just don't call it "piggy-backing," but yes, having 3 guys that can go 3-4 IP every 4-5 days really takes the stress off the short guys.

In theory, if you have Sale, Kluber, Paxton, Bello and Pivetta starting, we could add Whitlock and make it 4 long guys:

5 SP

4 Long Men (Whitlock, Houck, Wink, Craw)

4 Shortmen (Jansen, Martin, Schreiber, JRod/Brasier)

Duran needs to steal before Tapia Ks, so as to not distract Devers AB

Thanks to both of you two, Tapia appears clueless and incapable today

Bottom 5 of the Sox order not so bad. Arroyo hit ball hard--but right at someone. Duran got the double. McGuire and rbi. Kike an rbi. Casas a hit.

However, Casas ain't much help on throws in the dirt. Reminds me of the third baseman in Major League--his contract says no extra calisthenics.

Maybe we comeback, maybe we don't.

We finally got Bello's first outing out of the way.

I just don't put much stock in this start. See what happens next. Maybe he'll rebound as Whitlock did.

Very encouraging to see Kutter pitch the way he has.

Duran on base twice is a good sign. Love to watch him on the bases.

I’d love to watch Duran touch home plate.

Yoshida looks like a little guy in over his head

Yep, not seen many "hard" contacts that was promised.

3 for his last 21 ABs, but with 6 or 7 walks in that span. 0 for the Angel series though
