For pitchers it would only affect Bleier then. Fine?

Batters have to get used to the timing too, I'm not that worried.

What Steve Cohen is doing this year is something we've never seen before. It almost really makes one want to see the Mets lose.

I always want to see the Mets lose. Unless they’re playing the Yankees…

From what I've read, each week the called balls and strikes get cut in half. It was definitely overblown because of that Braves game, but I think that was hilarious and meaningless because it happened in a ST game.

I still remember 1986, but they are far behind other MLB teams I root against (NYY, TBR, TOR, HOU, CHC).

The NL team I liked growing up was the Cardinals: Ozzie Smith, Coleman, McGee, Van Slyke, Pendleton, Clark, Pena.

Cubbies fans are lame. Their park is dumb. Harry Carey is bad.

Steve Bartman did nothing wrong.

I liked the Cardinals, and Dodgers in the early 1960’s, or anyone who went against the Yankees in the WS, but then 1967 came along, and I didn’t like the Cardinals so much especially Bob Gibson.

The Bartman thing was a city-wide embarrassment starting with the Chicago Sun Times actually publishing his name, home address and work address the day after the massively overblown incident.

But until 2016, rooting against the Cubs felt like rooting against David when he took on Goliath…

Speaking as someone who was there for yesterday's game with the Yankees, it went pretty much as expected.

We had a Sox team that has been depleted by 10 players because of the WBC playing a split-squad game against a NYY team who sent the losers in the "short straw contest", and the two teams (rightfully) played to a tie. The highlight of the game was seeing Mayer get a couple of AB's although he had no chances in the field.

But it was a beautiful day and I was watching baseball being played by players who have more talent than I ever had, and I only paid $30 for the privilege. (No $10.25 beers that resemble water.) What's to complain about if you're a baseball fan??

Bob Gibson was cooler than anyone on the 1967 Red Sox.

Sale

Price

Lackey

Schilling

Beckett

Those are 5 guys with distinctive personality flaws. I can see why they wouldn't be a "fan favorite." Yuck!

I think that we all probably have some type of flaw. Well maybe I wrong about that but I don't disagree with you about what you have said but their flaws I guessing were and probably are distinctly different. Sale cut some ridiculous uniforms and destroyed a water cooler. My guess is that he is a big fan favorite. He is a competitor with a c that should be capitalized.

Of all the guys listed, he definitely could be a fan favorite and big time shirt seller. If he came up through this system, I think he would be a clear fan favorite no question about it.

Sale was a fan favorite for striking out the side and being on the mound when the greatest Red Sox team finished the deal, and especially for bringing the despicable Machado to one knee flailing at the final pitch.

Then Boston signed him to an extension...

I could only hope for something quaffable...

So much for our 'prospects' Murphy and Walter. 12 runs, 11 earned in 4 1/3 innings pitched. I saw NO upside. Ugh....

The extension is Desperate Dave's fault.

I'm not sold on Murphy. Walter has promise, but needs more time in AAA.

100%. It was bad when the extension was offered, and signed, it was bad 3 years later, and I believe it’s bad now.

Here's some upside: Sox minor leaguers got three earned off Jays' ace Minoah (3rd in '22 Cy and who I can't stand), including a two-run single by 19-year old Miguel Bleis.

In ST, even All-Stars give it up to guys who won't be going north.

Agree it's bad. But it's also a done deal, so to me it makes sense to hope that this year, finally, Sale can redeem some of the significant cost of that contract.

When he was healthy--before the tommy john surgery--I thought Chris Sale was the most professional Sox pitcher I'd ever seen. Clemens and Pedro--and no doubt others--were better, but I liked that Sale also played great defense.

I'm more inclined to think it's best to buy out couple of years of free agency when the player is young opposed to giving extension to an older player.

There was really no reason to extend Sale in the spring training in my view. Same goes for Matt Barnes.

I like what we did with Whitlock. We gave Devers an offer he couldn't refuse. I'm happy about that. He's young. His ten year deal will outlast any injuries he may suffer.

I think there's merit to the original thought of not extending earlier than you need to for any pitcher in his 30's. See Sales and Barnes.

I'm good with one/two year deals for veterans.

PS. sorry it was meant to be a response to another thread.

But here's the thing, Nick. The big beef about losing Bogaerts was that the Sox allegedly could have signed him for a reasonable deal before the season but didn't.

Sometimes you just can't win.

Pitchers seem more inclined to injuries than position players. But your point is valid.

I’m still not so sure Bogey would have taken a “reasonable deal,” and we are not really sure how much “reasonable” would have been.

I’m also thinking the Sox did not want to pay him what any of us felt was that “reasonable” amount.

I’m not even sure they would have given him what Story got, had Bogey said that was all he wanted.

I guess they did demolish our major league pitchers last year.

And vets.

All in all most of our vets and kids have looked promising.
