The devil is in the details of the trade. We get a serviceable first baseman bor $7+ mil per year. Since he is a lefty bad, it sounds like Cordero will be odd man out. Hosmer also can be looked at as insurance at the DH role which may soon be vacated JDM. Is there a master plan to vacate enough bucks to sign both Devers and bogie to contracts while also taking care of some deficiencies?

Dalbec is at 3B right now, but where does he play when Devers comes back? As bad as Dalbec is against RHP Franchy is worse, so Franchy might be the odd man out when that time comes.

Devers better be back today and hitting.

I looked at the 40 man roster and we have 4 guys on 60 day IL, so they don't count against the 40 . You could justify a DFA against at least 8 others, not on IL, starting with Yolmar Sanchez.

I am not a big Hosmer fan, but he is a huge Defensive upgrade and e vent in a down Hosmer year, he is much better than our current platoon options. And maybe Hosmer has found a ballpark where he can excel offensively.

Are any other players involved?

If it’s just Hosmer plus his money, use him until you’re sick of him and DFA him while SD pays the fee…

I keep Sanchez over Cordero…

Undisclosed as of yet.

If Diekman and Gallo can be traded, let’s trade Franchy and Brasier while the GMs are still drunk!

Seriously, I wonder what advanced stats they are seeing to think those acquisitions are a good idea.

I wonder if they see a possible tweak suggestion that will set them in a better direction.

I see no other reason that makes sense.

Those are all Bloom’s prized recruits.

In the trade of gallo to the dodgers, the Yanks received pitcher Clayton Beeter, while the sox traded for a catcher who likes to beat his meat....

Boom.

In hockey, that would be a game misconduct. Basketball, a double technical.

So we’re just naming random irrelevant players from years past?

How about Sergio Mitre, Joba Chamberlain, Esteban Loiaza and Chuck Knoblauch?

@JeffPassan

San Diego will be paying down a significant portion of the $44 million or so remaining on Eric Hosmer’s contract, per sources.

Still working on deal per Ken Rosenthal that Sox May get a prospect, or two, but take on more of the salary. Did someone say prospects? Bloom’s eye lit up, and said you bet.

The point was they have both signed guys who weren't the most model citizens.....

If the Padres are paying majority of the contract and/or we get a decent prospect, it’s worth it. Hosmer is still an upgrade over Franchy

It was a joke, lighten up, francis.....

While I don’t se this team going anywhere, anyways, this is a good addition. Hosmer is way better in every aspect than Cordero & Dalbec combined.

i am reading rumors that the dodgers are going to have gallo and bellinger put on exhibitions of home run derbies and k contests.

lol!

I don't get it, though. The Red Sox got worse by trading Vazquez, no? Yet, they get better by acquiring Hosmer. What does that mean for JD and Eavoldi? If the Red Sox hold on to JD and Eavoldi, with the idea of trying to win a wild card this year, why did they ever trade Vazquez?

Prospects, prospects, prospects.
