You don't need to pay for Strahm. They didn't need to pay for Diekman!

Don’t “need to” but if it improves the return, why not?

Unless we can get under the tax line by not doing so.

Brandon Marsh for Logan O’Hoppe.

I wonder if the Phillies would have taken Verdugo or Duran.

Not a Sox deal.

Funny how things are turning in Major League Baseball these days. Now we are The vintage Padres and the Padres are the vintage Red Sox.

Said that, Chaim will walk in a very thin ice if he doesn’t turn around things next year and I’ll be in the front row to point it out.

I thought we might be buyers and sellers, but this was so much of a yawn, it’s hard for me to figure out the reasoning on anything but the Vaz trade.

I was on the road all day, so this is just my first impression, and it’s meh.

We have two LF only OF’ers and add a LF’er.

Our best ML ready prospect plays 1B, and we added a 1Bman.

Maybe we trade Dugo or Duran in the off-season and Pham platoons with the other. Maybe we trade Casas for pitching or a catcher, but I’m not seeing how this improves us much going forward.

Maybe a better defensive catcher and the prospects are the gems in these deals, but I’m not feeling any excitement over this day.

You didn’t miss much being on the road.

You are the only one who keeps saying we have 2 LF only, and also one of the biggest needs of the team, and has been all season has been 1B. Casas is not ready, so what did you want to see more Franchy at 1B? Franchy is where he should be. I know you didn’t get your wish, and all expiring contracts weren’t traded off, but be happy with a 3 game winning streak. One of your favorite NE talk show stations this morning gave Bloom a D- for the deals he just made. The only reason he didn’t get a F was, because the Padres picked out most of the tab on Hosmer. Also the word on the street was Philly was all set to taking on JBJ, and his weak bat, and contract, but Bloom wanted Philly’s top pitching prospect, so another trade that WILTED on the vine. You got Mossed, and the Red Sox got Bloomed. You don’t sound happy now, and you still think Bloom can put together a good team in 2023. Right now Bogey, and the boys are trying to win inspite of Bloom. He hasn’t quit like you wanted to do with a sell off. Play offs? Did someone say playoffs?

I think we'd be better off letting the cost controlled Casas take over 1B next year at some point, and spending our money on C/OF maybe Vazquez or Contreras behind the plate and make a run at Judge in the OF. Use this army of milb depth Bloom has been saving up to get some pitching. Might be an unpopular opinion but Mayer might be more on the trading block than Casas, maybe not, but certainly if you resign Bogaerts. Think of the package it took to land Sale.

Blooms strategy makes little sense if we don't go for it at some point, next year should be that year.

Hosmer was basically free and just covers us for the rest of the season. The Sox can trade him in the offseason or next year when Casas is ready as they only owe him the minimum.

Looks like they are going to try Verdugo in RF again? IDK.

Yes, that's the scuttlebutt.

He looked ok in 2020? Maybe he can do it again? At this point they need to at least give it a shot. I'd rather put him there than CF that's for sure.

LF Pham/Duran

CF JBJ

RF Verdugo

This alignment makes a little bit more sense for now. JBJ can make up for some of the zone deficiencies of LF/RF.

That outfield has the potential.....to be awful.

Being on the road for trade day, somehow I got in my head the Padres were paying all but $7M a year on Hoz.

I really like the trade, now, and I guess Bloom and Henry bent over backwards to keep the fan base thinking we still have a shot, this year, instead of making 2023 and beyond the top priority.

I doubt it works, but now that we have our catcher for the next few years, and he seems to actually help pitchers do better, maybe we can salvage something from2022. Let’s see how JD, Nate and Bogey respond to the loyalty and dedication Bloom showed them and the 2022 team. Let’s see what kind of leader in the clubhouse Bogey and these vets are.

All of a sudden, Dugo can play RF?

We had 100 games to try this, already.

I think the Sox need to make a serious run at an outfielder this offseason. I think Verdugo is going to bounce back fine next year. The rest of the group I have very little to no confidence in. I'd be fine running JBJ out for his superior defense batting 9th if you could add a Judge to the line up.

Not all the Red Sox fan base are quitters like you, and 2022 should be the top priority as long as they are still in the playoff hunt.with Bloom’s track record I don’t know why you are so excited about 2023, and beyond. Not many GM types would trade their starting catcher in a playoff race for a backup, who his teammates, and the pitching staff liked, and respected. Bogey, and the rest Will try to win despite Bloom, and JH. I don’t think Bogey is a quitter like you are.Go Sox!

Slightly less awful than what it has been so far? Maybe? IDK. I wouldn't bet my house on it.

JBJ can't be back next year. Eat the $$$ and have him sit home.

It could be slightly better and still below what you would expect of a playoff caliber team. If JBJ is off this team (which is more than fine) who is your centerfielder?

Sox don't have a centerfielder in there system, and anyone who may be that guy one year isn't anywhere near MLB ready. One way or another, it seems to make sense that the Sox add a premium player in the outfield this offseason.

I think they bring Kiké back.

I should just close my office door and take a nap today.

My plan for next year would be:

LF Verdugo

CF Kiké

RF FA - Haniger

Maybe keep Duran as the 4th OFer? Maybe trade him?

They added Wilyer Abreu (.858 OPS in AA) and Corey Rosier yesterday…
