I’ll just say it. I can’t wait til the day that Bloom is no longer employed by the Red Sox.

Where Bloom is going is the direction Henry wants.

Like on his other sports teams or maybe his yacht?
It's a way to offset Raffy's 300M contract and seems like a good way to do business if he's going to use the rest of the money elsewhere.

Be careful what you wish for.

into the bottom half of MLB payrolls. Now that the deadline is over Bloom can do his real work--diving in to the dumpsters for low cost arms

no doubt, scouring the waiver wire for the cream of the crap.

It's obvious the number one priority, by far, is the long term future and not 2023. Maybe not even 2024.

It sucks, but I doubt this is Bloom talking Henry into that plan.

My biggest wonder is what happened to the $10-12M we "had to spend" and still stay under the tax line? Spending that much more does not affect the future, at all. This bothers me more than not trading anyone more than Blalock to improve our 2023 chances.

I wonder, if Bloom wanted to trade for a salary dump pitcher, who still has talent, but was told not to spend more.

I have been saying this all along. Bloom is only following the orders given by John Henry.

I'm not so sure the new direction is the wrong one, but patience is not a virtue on this board.

We have endured 4 years of Bloom. I would hardly say that is lacking patience

There has been no patience on this board for every minute of those 4 years.

We are seeing an improvement, this year, especially on the young core of players that is better than any young core since pre-2018. You can choose to see only doom and gloom, or not.

Patience on this board? How about for the rest of the Red Sox fans all over the multi-verse? And that especially includes those that pay cable bills for NESN or MLB streaming or have to take out second-mortgages to treat their families to a game at Fenway.

How do you think Alex Cora and coaches feel today that their boss refused to give them even one more pitcher -- either a starter or a decent reliever to help with their bi-weekly bullpen games? How do you think the Red Sox players busting their butts to forge the best record in the majors the past month feel knowing the front office doesn't believe in them?

Chaim Bloom: "Hey, a lot of people thought we were going to trade Paxton and Duvall or Verdugo, but guess what, they're still here. So from that perspective, not getting worse is getting better."

Does that actually happen?

Seems to me off they did bring in some new players, they’re yelling at least one guy he isn’t doing good job..

And they are absolutely right. This team is a complete shambles.

Or maybe not. Consider--

1. Story is due back this weekend, which means three good infield bats--Devers, Story, and Casas--every day. And a 4th, Turner at 2b, when Cora thinks he needs him there so Casas can play 1b and Yoshida can DH. And some combo of Reyes/Chang/Arroyo to help with the defense.

2. Four good bats--Yoshida, Duran, Duvall, and Dugo--in the outfield plus Refsnyder, who is really good vs lefties. Yoshida and Turner share the DH slot, depending on how Cora shapes his day to day lineups. Also, Duran has stolen 23 bases, been caught twice, and forced a bunch of errors that led to additional bases not counted as stolen.

3. Two good catchers, Wong and McGuire (who bats lefty and hit that dinger last night in his first game back).

4. When Sale returns, which could happen as soon as the Detroit series, August 11-13, a pretty good rotation--Paxton, Bello, Sale, Pivetta, and Crawford. If you go by quality starts, they are the best Sox rotation since 2018--barring further injuries, of course.

5. When Houck and Whitlock return 10-15 days after Sale and presumably go to the bullpen, a pretty good bullpen: Jansen, Whitlock, Houck, Martin, Bernardino, Schreiber, Winckowski, and TBD.

6. Of the above, Devers, Story, Casas, Duran, Yoshida, Wong, McGuire, Dugo, Bello, Crawford, Pivetta, Shreiber, Whitlock, Winckowski, and Houck are all age 30 or younger.

Those 6 sniveling points notwithstanding, I'd say Chaim Bloom is the worst MLB GM since, I don't know, maybe Branch Rickey.

I was disappointed, too, but I’m not saying the players on the team are or should be…

I'm not surprised, nor disappointed. Unless they got a young pitcher with team control for a couple of years, I was not excited about any on the rentals on the market, including the aging Verlander and Scherzer (who were not coming here anyway), any of the Cardinals pitchers, or Aaron Civale for one reason or the other. I would have liked at least a reliever to help bridge the IP gap for August though.

I wanted nothing to do with Scherzer or Verlander last winter, not even at half of what the Mets paid. They're always just a creak or tweak away from Sale/Paxton/Whitlock sick bay.

But for the other innings eaters -- Lynn, Lorenzen, Montgomery, Flaherty, even Civale -- Chaim could've parted with some of his surplus prospect capital if he really wanted to.

I'm not in the clubhouse, but when all beat writers, TV reporters and ex-MLB players-turned-announcers talk about the positive vibe and vote of confidence players feel at the deadline when their boss brings in reinforcements, they can't all be wrong.

Henry should use the money saved from cheaper players on extensions and FA's elsewhere on the roster. He's not going to spend it on other ventures. He's not a sole proprietorship.

The Red Sox weren't a playoff team every year when I was growing up. Some of you have really inflated expectations.

I think they are thrilled he didn’t sell.

Lol.

We have a very good chance to make the playoffs.

Let’s talk again in 2 weeks.

No, it would be a good idea to trade Rafaela for a 38 year old with a 4 ERA that is owed 43M next year. It's smart! There's no way you could spend that 43M in a better manner!

I don't think they were going to get into the playoffs. The teams around them sold a bunch of prospects for a run this year. I think Bloom telegraphed that he wasn't ready to do that right now. This team isn't there yet. This team is still a few years away from being mature enough to make those moves.

Not to mention, despite what we all believe - it’s not his money. Upgrading his yacht with Red Sox payroll savings is probably embezzlement…

They've never been in the postseason every year. Their best run was '98-09, when they made it eight times, including five trips to the ALCS. That had to be a great time to be a young fan in Red Sox Nation...

Boston only made the playoffs once when I was growing up. But my expectations were conflated by two things: the Red Sox were always good, and always trading for or signing top talent to try to make them great.

The Sox were over .500 every season in the 1970s and averaged 90 wins. Back then only division winners played in October... usually New York (cha-ching) or Baltimore (moo/snort/baaa).
