Cabrera was a great Red Sox in '04 -- money on all tough plays, clutch hitter, and a big part of the change in culture with the handshakes and celebrations among teammates.

Favorite moment after Game Seven in the Bronx: Cabrera turning to the crowd and holding up four fingers on one hand and a fist of nothing on the other. Four straight.

I think this was a case of selective amnesia by RR.

As Ever, fact, but but while one doubts Bogaerts would switch positions, in the past three days front office folks from 3 teams claim they’ve been told he has severed Boston ties and won’t be going back. Whether that’s negotiating leverage talk or reality, there’s no confirmation.

I'm not surprised.

We have some serious replacing to do, this winter- not to mention improving other slots.

Well if this is the case, I'm willing to wait for the whole story to come out before I enter in on the discussion. I can say though that if Boston did not make an honest attempt to sign him, I will not be selective with my "Bashing". I'll bash them all. I also will consider it pathetic of them if they resort to the free agent market to replace him.

Severing ties is just an embarrassing look for this organization.

I think they try and piecemeal it cheaply for a few years until the young guys show up.

If this is true, the front office must know they better be prepared to overpay and lock up Devers asap -- for their team and customers -- or he's as good as gone, too.

I don't think it's a lock Bogey comes back here, heck I'm not even sure it's 50% but I don't buy that article. That's BS, that stinks of Boras, it's got the Scott stench all over it.

the article, tweet whatever.

point is, I don't let the media influence my opinions.

See what I did there.....ehh ehhh???

I think we know how that will play out.

Better just trade him now IMO.

Gammons is a fairly well regarded voice though. If it was coming from someone else, I'd give it less value. IDK. I'm concerned in so much that the Sox stated that Xander was the first priority, but it really doesn't feel like it.

I think it was all playing the media.

From the time we signed Story, I felt Bogey was as good as gone. I know Story looks to remain at 2B, but paying Story $140M/6 put the budget squeeze on other positions, IMO, and I don't think they value SS who are not known for defense like many fans do.

Very well could be a ploy to force Boston to defend itself by maybe making a significantly improved offer to Bogey and leak it to the media.

This would maybe force a bidding war to commence. Just what BorA$$ wants.

I love PG, but he's also kind of old and losing it, especially his online grammar which makes me question if he is even writing his own tweets anymore. That was one of the more coherent ones.

I still don't buy it. Even if Bogey ends up signing elsewhere I don't buy it. Unless the Sox are deadset on making a run at Turner, and even then why would you cut ties with the other big SS on the market in case you don't make your man?

I think the Sox are comfortable matching any offer as long as it's not insane, they are banking that the Money Boras and Bogey thought would be out there is in fact not out there.

If that was materializing to be the case and I was camp Boras, leaking this would make sense.....It feels like a stunt, I officially want to revoke my 8/217 Bogey prediction and downgrade it to 7/190.

I think he gets $200M/8, but I would not match that. $190/7 seems about right, too.

I'm sticking to our max offer being $160M/6 or $180M/7.

I hope that you are wrong. have to wait and see what unfolds I guess. And like I said I won't officially join Bashers Anonymous until we do find out what becomes of Bogey.

So no matter what happens, you don't buy it.

The best spin that could come out of this story is that it's just the agent saying "Bogey is ok with leaving Boston, so feel free to send us your offers everyone."

If they let Bogey go, but the Sox play well then it's hard to complain. If they struggle again, Bloom's done for.

I don’t buy that they’ve severed ties. I’d buy Bogey going to the highest bidder and being ok not returning to Boston….but we knew that the day he opted out.

Bogey's opt-out was an automatic. He would have been insane not to. Of course the Sox could have prevented it by signing him to a new deal some time in the last two years.

@redsoxstats

A year ago at this time the Sox were reported as “one of the three main teams on Javy Baez.” That was a total fabrication by his agent to look good in a headline. The Sox were never going to sign him and were all-in trying to sign Trevor Story at the time unbeknownst to everyone.

I thought someone from the Sox said they were interested in Baez.

Personally I consider Peter Gammons to be a very reliable source!

He had the brain aneurysm back in 2006. His typing isn't great, but I don't think he makes up stories at this point in his career. Sometimes he tweets after sitting on his phone. It's fun.

@ChrisCotillo

Sam Kennedy says Red Sox are still engaged with Xander Bogaerts and that no doors have been closed there.

On the idea of Bogaerts severing ties with Red Sox: “I don’t have that impression but all we can go by is our desire to bring him back.”

He hasn’t told you he’s done talking?

“Nope.”

Wouldn’t say if Sox will have chance to match outside offers.

Sorry, but my pitchfork is still out.
