Still expecting (deeply sourced) a mid March agreement (16th/17th) with a mid April start of an unbalanced schedule season of 146 games.

With no Hendu, they don't make the World Series.

Indeed, but who knows what would have happened had he not turned that Angel out into a homer, earlier in that game.

What could have happened differently?

The game was close for most of the time, and a one run game for much of the ending.

The Bobby Grich 2 run HR that went off Hendu's glove put the Angels up by one. Had that not happened, maybe we don't need his later inning heroics.

MLBTR...

It’s a very minor move in the players’ favor, but one that seems unlikely to thrill the union. The MLBPA actually increased their desired league minimum in yesterday’s proposal (to MLB’s chagrin), seeking a $775K figure next season that’d climb $30K annually to $895K by 2026. The union paired that with a slight dip in its efforts to expand arbitration, but the league has stringently refused to entertain the possibility of broader Super Two eligibility altogether.

Last season, the league minimum was set at $570.5K. As Travis Sawchik of the Score calculated last month, the minimum would need to be set at $650K in 2022 to keep pace with inflation, relative to the terms of the 2016-21 CBA.

Major League Baseball announced they’ve canceled all Spring Training games through March 7.

Good, that must mean they're close to an agreement, and will need the whole next week to pay all remaining available free agents...

... right?

I'm bit dumbfounded by the strong stance the owners are taking in respect to Luxury tax limit amount.

No matter what the limit, they control their spending, no?

Or is it the case of 25 owners knowing that few owners can't help themselves and getting their payroll up to $240M, thus making more apparent to the fanbase of 25 teams their unwillingness to spend money to improve their teams?

It does appear that it's the owners of smaller market teams who are throwing their weight around this time.

f*** them.

Yes I’m talking to you, Bob Nutting and John Fisher…

If the smaller market teams used the lux tax money to spend on increasing their player salary budget, I might have some sympathy, but they just pocket it as increased profits.

Time to initiate a floor limit.

While the players seem to be backing off their original asks- some by more than 50%, the owners dick around with a $1M increase to one year of the lux tax limit.

The owners are digging in to a point where the players will be walking away from the table, very soon.

Not looking good!

It would just be so much easier if there were not only a floor, and a ceiling, and a hard floor, and a ceiling.

I think the players need to bring a hard bat to the negotiating table…

Maybe we should simply go to class system similar to the one used by high school associations.

Opulent League...top 15 big spenders. 8 teams will make the playoffs. Top 4 teams will get a first round bye.

Frugal League....top 15 least spenders. 4 teams will make the playoffs.

#5 seed from Opulent League will play #4 seed from Frugal League, winner to play the #1 seed from Opulent League.

#6 seed from Opulent League will play #3 seed from Frugal League, winner to play the #2 seed from Opulent League.

#7 seed from Opulent League will play #2 seed from Frugal League, winner to play the #3 seed from Opulent League.

#8 seed from Opulent League will play #1 seed from Frugal League, winner to play the #4 seed from Opulent League.

There will be no interleague play, meaning 15 suck ass owners will get to play each other 162 times.

Someone shoot me.

I actually like the idea.

To add to the excitement, have mid-season regulation. I.E if a team drops their payroll from a top 15 to a bottom 15 mid-season, they switch leagues as well…

I would think the players would be okay with heavy taxes on teams going over the luxury tax limit and a lower limit than they are asking for now, if a decent floor level was established that would add a lot of player salary spending from the bottom end.

The problem is, the lower spending teams seem to be running the owner's side of the negotiations.

Unless the bottom payroll teams are made to spend I don’t think it will happen especially if they are like you said running the negotiations for the owners.

Yes, and the "floor" would be a way to force lower spending teams to pay players or lose out on revenue sharing or pay fines.
