Be careful notin - Many of our posters likely never saw Aaron or Mays, and really have 0 clue as to even who they were to say nothing about how absolutely great they were.

Mays is one of my all time favorite players. I never much cared for Aaron...

Oh but hes the best defensive CF in the game! That's all that matters

Despite your apparent sarcasm, I happen to agree with this.

With all the bitching about JBJ, he's ended up with an OPS higher than .700 the last 4 seasons in a row.

Right now the average MLB center fielder has an OPS of .687.

The trade JBJ gang needs to calm the f*** down. It's gonna be OK.

My man.

Some people on here are just buzzarding; waiting for a hot streak from JBJ to say "I told you so" no matter how late in the season it comes.

No, some people just value his defense, whether the hot streak comes or not.

That said, the hot streak will come.

And some people on here don’t care if the hot streak ever comes but still think he should be the starting CFer for the Boston Red Sox.

My man.

Last year, he never really got "hot" for an extended time, except maybe the playoffs. He actually did something he rarely had done before: he hit consistently well for 4+ months.

Yes. I agree.

I had hoped that consistency would carry over, and he could give us a full season of .790 offense.

He may still end up at .790, and if he does, I'm not sure a 4 week slump will be enough to say it was an inconsistent season.

FWIW I saw Hank Aaron and Willie Mays go hitless in the same game in 1973:

You were a very lucky person to see them play. I followed their careers very very closely. My opinion is that Mays was the greatest that I ever saw. Were you trying to make some other point Harmony with an emphasis on the part about them being hitless? Hope you weren't .

Whatever gets you through those long and lonely nights S5Dumby. Back to the ignore list you go as you provide nothing useful to this board.

Dumby. hahahahah . I see what you did there! You're so clever, using the D from Dewey and turning it into DUMBY!! Nobody would ever have thought of that!! HAHAHAH. You should be so proud of that rapier wit!!! You know you're really wasting your time here when you could be writing comedy for television! I can see it... yes... you're so funny...and witty... and original. Or with your wit and creativity you might have a future in standup comedy!

PLEASE put me on your ignore list... and keep me there, as I will you. In the years I've been here I've never seen you post anything worthwhile. You will not be missed.

I was thrilled to see Mays and Aaron play and did not recall the two went hitless until I reviewed the box score today.

My 'claim to fame' in terms of seeing it live was seeing Yaz and Reggie Jackson homer in the same game at Fenway in 1975.

I was actually just kidding. I think that you know you're baseball. I'm pretty sure that many of the players I grew up watching when I look back probably seem larger than life but that is what it is all about. The Red Sox were so bad in my earlest watching years that I adopted the Giants as my National League team (or any team that could beat the Yankees). Regardless of who comes along or who has been, Willie Mays = the most complete that I have seen.

From 78 on, I attended quite a few Sox games and the saddest thing is that one of my top Yaz remembrances is Guidry blowing it by him in 1978. he really could throw.

I recall seeing Ted Williams hit 2 three run homeruns vs the Orioles to win a game 8-6 in the mid 50's. No Sox pitcher could hold a lead then either.

I'm blanking on the name of the reliever who almost threw his arm off trying to salvage games in those days (late 50s I think) ... Mike Forneles?

All the JBJ fans need to look at his imbecilic K with the bases loaded, the Sox down 1 with 2 outs in the 8th inning tonight. He swung at 2 pitches out of the strike zone. And tell me again how he singlehandedly swept all three games at Tampa. JBJ right now is a liability.

I wouldn't characterize his strikeout as imbecilic. What would you call Benintendi's strikeout looking with two strikes. You could argue he didn't protect the plate on a close pitch. Give the pitcher some credit. He has nasty stuff and was effectively wild.

Max , Hitting ain't easy. I would venture to say that the majority of swinging strike outs come on pitches that are out of the zone . The really good hitters have better pitch recognition and plate discipline, but it is a split second thing . It's not fair to kill JBJ for striking out there .

Well said.

Maybe JBJ will break loose soon.

Hitting isn't easy. That's why they pay those who can do it millions and why most major leaguers CAN do it. I don't think JBJ is being reviled for striking out 'there'. It's for the dozens of times he's done it elsewhere this year. (Btw, I love watching JBJ play and I have always rooted for him. I would just rather see him play for a different team.)

Right. JBJ is the only liability on this team. They’re being dragged down by the 8-spot hitter...

It’s still April.

BTW Bradley could be hitting .600 this year and the Sox would still have an awful record...

Lol. Perhaps Cora should have PH?

I blame Cora.

What about Chavis' 'imbecilic K' with a man on 3rd and only one out?

That was the key at bat in that inning.
