I saw that post.

I'm not sure that I'm buying that you really believed it would happen. But if you say you did, I'll take your word for it.

LOL.....the truth is that I was kidding when I wrote it. Now that its happened I do see the logic behind it and I support the decision totally.

Well, that's kind of what I figured. LOL

I can see the logic behind the move.

I don't like it though and I especially don't like the timing of it.

Yankees have released Adam Lind.

Do I see an opportunity for Hanley in NY? They have a spot on the 40-man roster now, and they will have an opening at 1B because by the time Hanley clears waivers, Greg Bird should be back on the DL.

Austin is better than Hanley. Bird is better than Hanley. Frazier is better than Hanley. Essentially everyone we have is better than the dreadlocked corpse

It was timed so that another player would not have to be released or demoted AND it solved the Hanley problem. The timing was a necessity.

Swihart still won't play, but your point nails it..

The timing was based on this being the best and maybe only time, we could DFA him to get out of paying the option without a serious chance at a grievance being filed or won by HRam and his agent.

What the f*** are you even talking about here. This is a bunch of pseudo racist ******** and offers no analysis on anything grounded in reality. Please adjust your tinfoil hat. It doesn't seem to be working right.

Look dude. You seem like a very decent guy, and I'm sorry you want to assign 'racist' motives. Perhaps my hyperbic rhetoric is to blame? I take responsibility for that. I get it. Agree to disagree..... You can attack me if you like, but I watch every game, go to many on the east & west coast, and love our team. Believe it or not, I love Hanley too.

My favorite person in the world, and brother in law (long before the law allowed) I Puerto Rican. Our family roots have run deep through the islands for over 30 years.

So think what you like. Assume what you like..... just know your cries of "racism" are shyte! Absolute shyte! Sorry if that hurts your feelings, but my love for Puerto Rico & the DR precedes your limited knowledge OPINION.

For the record..... it's not ok for me to say that Hanley & Pablo often looked high in Sept. OF 2015, in that epic collapse season?

That is all that is needed for you to call me a racist? Saying that Hanley again looks & is acting high the past month or so, is all you need to make a snap judgement? He's been off the wall....

You can hate my hyperbole all you like. Hate my opinion, and say it's shyte. Correctly point out that it is based on nothing but my observations from tv, & limited personal observations. All fair. No argument there. Fair to say you think it's shyte!

BUT... To leap to "RACIST?" Sorry mate! How is your argument superior to mine again? How is your opinion more well founded? Off a couple of sentences?

I think you're a very decent guy. I don't want to get into a screaming match with you. All I can tell you is that you are DEAD WRONG. I love my Puerto Rican Brother in law! He IS THE 5TH Bro. IN my family. He and my brother are unbelievably taking care of my mother with Alheimer's, Efrain doing the bulk of the work. I fly out to help him in about a month for 3 weeks. I am closer to no other in law / no law in law. If I sound defensive, I am. You could never be more wrong, but a few sentences was all you needed to condemn me personally. A bit more harshly than strongly suggesting a guy on TV often appears "high" on Marijuana.... now a legal substance?....

I get that without context my opinion th a t Hanley & Pablo looked stoned to the gills before their early exit in Sept 2015 would snag many people. I get it. I understand that that opinion is unpopular and impossible to prove. I get it.

Do I personally belive it? Sorry.... YEP! 95% I just do. I have a bit of experience in that field, wink wink nudge nudge say no more ;)

Anyway..... did you watch every game, every inning of that season?

Say what you like about my opinion, but save the "racist" crap. Unless of course you are OK with slinging unsubstantiated accusations?

As I did... ;)

I can better substantiate my implications though. & I don't think it's incredibly hurtful to say an athlete looks high. i.e. constantly bleary eyed with Pablo & he yuckING it up & ganging all over eachother during the collapse... asked to go home early.....

There is a long lore of baseball players playing drunk, hungover and high -- of all races and ethnicities. The first story of that kind that I heard involved Mickey Mantle and the story was told by Joe Pepitone who got him stoned on weed.

I didn't think my opinion was that scanalous, but then again, I moved to Oregon from Boston. ;)

I get that I snagged 75, but it was not malicious. Sure, I was frustrated with Harley's perennial under-performance, but I honestly had no racist motivation.

Btw... if you're looking for real freedom? Oregon! ok, it kinda sucks, but the dope is legal, we have THE BEST & most redily available micro-brews in the entire country, and THE best new burgeoning wine country in the world!

Incredible mountains, high desert, & unmatched coastal views.

Now I'm wondering why it sucks so badly here????

I'm shocked to say the least. Really didn't see that coming.

I am however, very happy with it.

I saw this coming a couple of weeks ago. This guy has been a premier hitter at times in the past, but he also has a tendency to get totally lost. I for one don't think that Cora should need to make excuses for him and say that he needs to swing at pitches that are over the plate. One would hope he would know that. He looks lost and I have recommended he be given a rest, especially since Moreland is a better defender and is hitting the ball now.

I know I am from a different time and culture than Hanley. Hes a guy who spends the time and effort to have his died curly locks and just doesn't seem to have his mind on hitting a baseball. I recommend the Yankee approach, cut the damn hair and be a man. Maybe it would take something major like that to bring him back to earth (Scotty, beam him up). I see nothing wrong with letting him sit for a full week whether righty or lefty and then stop the insanity of batting him in the critical 3 spot. Drop him to 9th where he belongs. He needs something to shake him back to reality.

This is becoming more of a story about Cora than Hanley. Cora, take some action.

I'm from that different time and culture too I guess. I'm not opposed to the idea of Hanley being gone I guess but primarily because he just wasn't getting the job done. The last thing I think that this team needed was another non hitter in the lineup. Particularly batting third, a spot where you have to have an rbi producer. With respect to your reference about the way these guys sometimes look, I don't know. I guess personally I am for a cleaner cut kind of look but I also remember when I wore my hair to my shoulders and no one thought that I would ever get a job. I see things from a different perspective now and I am kind of glad that I grew out of that phase of my life. It was fun though.

Thats why I have to preface my comments knowing that I am a person who was born before we were in WWII and we were a fairly poor family who had to stuggle to earn a living. I went to engineering school, not a place noted for a wild and crazy lifestyle. So I view the long dyed ringlets on a man from my point a view. Couple that with a seemingly lost approach at the plate and I see a guy that it is easy to attribute a lax attitude to, fair or not. Regardless of that, the performance was not there nor has it been and the Sox got a bad deal for their money. Better to start fresh and avoid more time trying to bring a player back to useable when all evidence points in the other direction.

I also still wonder if DD has another move in mind based on the luxury tax savings brought about by DFAing Hanley. clearly catching, possibly pitching and CF are places where we cold improve.

Good observation.

And Bill Lee in one of his books talks about the narcotic cycle of alcohol and amphetamines. Players going out and getting drunk till all hours, waking up with hangovers, popping bennies to get their energy level back up. Lather, rinse, repeat.

What makes you think Swihart won’t see more playing time now? Honestly curious.

I guess he is now our backup first baseman?

I would expect him to have more playing time then what he has seen the first 50 games....

1) He's still not good enough to catch. He's caught 2 innings this year, and HRam's release doesn't change that.

2) With Pedey's return, Nunez now leap frogs Swihart as OF depth. Holt is probably ahead of him, too.

3) That leaves 1B and DH. JD should DH more now and play the OF less, but that might depend on JBJ's offense. We could see Swihart at DH, like today, and that's the only place he has started this year.

5) I suppose he could play 1B when Moreland needs a rest, but Holt may be a better option there as well, at least until he starts his normal late season slump.

I just don't see Swihart playing any more than he has thus far, unless someone gets injured. If it's a major injury, we'll probably trade for someone before handing the FT job to Swihart. Now, if he starts hitting in the few chances he gets, maybe he can win a job.

I'd probably go with Holt before Swihart, at least until he starts slumping.

Swihart could use a 4 for 5 game, today.

The 2004 Red Sox won with the Idiots, which included long haired Johnny "Jesus" Damon and scruffy players like Trot Nixon, Bill Mueller and Kevin Millar. And let's not forget Manchild Manny and who knows what substances he was on. In 2013 it was all about the beards. I love that stuff. I hate the Yankees Nazi haircut regime. It has nothing to do with player performance and more to do with crushing individuality, quirkiness, and fun.

The truth is, Hanley came to the Sox injured and past his prime. I said it then and I say it now. This is the best Hanley can do at this point in his career. Getting rid of him helps to start working on roster flexibility.
