Hi K% isn't even much higher than normal. I think the hits will start falling eventually. I just don't know if his BABIP decrease is due to something besides luck.

Also, is JBJ's average 235? That's career, right? If some people think a 750 OPS is acceptable for him then the problem is that his career OPS is only 713. Last year he was 725. Is that acceptable?

I think JBJ is a case where WAR does become a really useful measurement.

JBJ's 2017 numbers worked out to a 2.2 fWAR.

I'd call that disappointing (especially since his 2016 fWAR was 5.3) but acceptable.

If fact, the way 2018 MLB baseball travels if JBJ would just make contact with the darned thing and occasionally get any part of the barrel of the bat on it, he would end up with more HR's as well. We're getting broken bat HR's this year. So it doesn't take much.

I agree. I'm on the fence as to where his OPS should be going forward. I think last year's overall numbers were ok, but I wish he didn't have the tremendous dry spells that he does.

It looks like that his contact % is down because he isn't making contact with pitches outside the zone as much. Seems to be more of an issue with pitch selectivity than a loopy swing.

Except for those two or three games last week when he was served up nothing but belt high fast balls and couldn't even get a foul ball. Whatever that was about, it seems to have been fixed.

Don't get me wrong, it was rough watching him for that stretch. Woof.

Anyone remember David Eckstein

Did he play 3rd base at Pawtucket?

Why yes Spud, he did pay for the Sox in Pawtucket.

The s*** I remember.

The answer is NO !!! Please shut down this thread .

So, all we need is for Pom to turn things around and you'll be oh for 3 on your calls for dumping slumping Sox players.

I wonder who the next 3 will be.

JBJ needs to keep going oppos and when he gets sick and tired of going oppos, he should go oppos some more.

With JBJ heating up how long will it be before we see the first post saying "Trade him NOW while he has value." ?

LOL.

I'm waiting for his 3 HRs in 2 games, then we'll hear it.

JBJ is an elite defender at an elite position, and as bad as his numbers are I think he can hit and will in streaks.

You need your offense to be consistent as a whole but you can live with a guy like JBJ in the bottom of your order and ride the offensive waves. You can't have a whole team of those guys, but I'm fine with JBJ on this team now, and into the future.

He still has a long swing, when he's in a hot streak.

I have only my eyes for this as evidence but I would suggest it is not as long. Especially with two strikes.

For the 2000 Pawtucket Red Sox, David Eckstein played 115 games at second base and one game at shortstop:

The trivia I don't remember and need to look up.:)

Your trivia is faulty. I saw him play IN PERSON AT McCOY. He was most definitely playing 3rd base.

But keep bringing your sabre bbr data to bear in attempts to have the biggest weeny here.

I am so happy to know that my eyes have been failing me for so long.

Ha. We're about the same age, I think, and I have been very careful to distinguish my memory from facts for a long long time.

Of course records of positional play at thousands of minor league games must be infallible.

2006 World Series MVP. Anyone remember that? Released by Boston to make room for the great Lou Merloni..

You don't trade young players for cents on the dollar see JReddick

Hey - I don't know about you but I'm perfectly happy with the way I remember things whether I'm right or wrong. For instance - Fred Lynn the greatest cf in the history of the franchise -

1967 without doubt the greatest single season any ml has ever had (Yaz)

Bill Russell - the greatest winner in the history of the NBA and the guy who I would have in the middle of my lineup surrounded by 4 other guys that someone thinks were greater than he was. (one of them being Larry of course)

Jack Nicklaus the greatest professional golfer of all time.

My memory does its job for me even though no one takes me to seriously.

forgot to mention Johnny Most (my greatest announcer).

Screw the brainiacs who have the data that proves me wrong. lol

As for this thread - of course we do not trade JBJ - he is just getting going.

Yeah right. Reddick was traded for Andrew Bailey. Bailey had stellar numbers with Oakland. He got injured and washed out like many pitchers do. Wasn't pennies on the dollar though.

Of course. How could anyone possibly disagree?

I thought he was released to make room for Ed Sprague.

Bailey was a Rookie of the Year who made 2 All Star appearances in his first 3 seasons. What exactly had Reddick done by that time?

Who did we trade for Hanrahan?

Now THAT is one thing I do not remember.
