They acquired Hanrahan and Holt for Melancon, Jerry Sands, Ivan DeJesus Jr, and Stolmy Pimentel.

Basically we won the trade by getting Holt.

Since the trade Mark Melancon has posted 9.4 bWAR with three All Star appearances, leading the National League with 51 saves in 2015, while Brock Holt has posted 6.1 bWAR.

Ah. Thank you. My failing memory is a real hindrance.

Melancon did save 130 games for the Pirates, which might have made him more valuable than a utility infielder...

A truly useful comparison would also include their dollar values and dollars paid!

Melancon always chocked under the bright lights though. ;)

JBJ is still hitting the ball hard. Keep it up JBJ!!!

Definitely a lot less motion at the plate. He has changed his approach and it is paying off. long hole to climb out of but he has time to have a decent season and the defense has always been stella.

He's at .600, now.

It was at .510 on May 12th and .524 on May 24th.

His BA is .199, so he's hitting his weight.

Bailey was a Rookie of the Year who made 2 All Star appearances in his first 3 seasons. What exactly had Reddick done by that time?

Relievers are a dime a dozen. Bailey had 1 good year at age 25 then the K Rate declined big time. There was a reason Beane let him go, he knew time was running out to get max value.

Reddick in the minors was a player who generated extra base hits 40 plus percent of the time he reached base, which the Scouts will tell you translates to gap power at any level, more times than not. Bust trade then and it would be a bust trade now to deal JBJ for anything less for a Verlander type arm or a JDMartinez type hitter.

See CSmith. This is why its critical to develop your own Relievers in the ML System. It's to much of a risk to trade any prospect of value for a relief pitcher. So far Kimbrel has been the real deal but as we see the HR's allowed are starting to climb this season.

jbj wont fetch a verlander or Martinez type player, we'll be lucky to get a middling rotation player for him

We simply don't have a better alternative in center at this time.

He's not awe inspiring I will grant you that, and he is also not a good trade candidate since he can't seem to hit well enough to stay in the lineup. With our current injury issues we can ill afford to have weak hitters as everyday players but that is just what we have. Currently the few good hitters we have left have no protection in the order so can be pitched to very carefully. I don't see an alternative outfielder in the minors to take JBJs spot and if we move Beni, we still don't have the outfield covered. I am assuming that JDM is not an everyday outfielder as we can't afford him to be injured. I don't know what DD can do to improve the situation as he has little money to spend and few trade chips.

....we have Mookie ,Benny ,JD ,Brock ,Nunez ,..., just how many do we need ???? Personally I'd trade him and Swihart and Beeks right now for Abreu or Ginette.....with Devers getting sent down scenario I'd demote JBJ also let him gain some trade value and go after Moose ....play Benny ,JD ,Mook at home and plug Nuney or Brock and maybe Swihart on the road .

Bottom 3 in the lineup on Friday went 0 for 9 with 6 strikeouts. Bradley led the way with 3 strikeouts. Swihart is now hitting .158. Strange to think that Swihart's trade value is probably lower now than a few weeks back when he asked for a trade.

We need healthy players and we need more of an everyday outfielder since JBJ doesn't look like he can regain acceptable form. I don't like playing JDM in the outfield daily as we can't afford him to get banged up. His sore back is a sign of things to be avoided. Nunez and Holt as outfield replacements doesn't strike me as reasonable. I would use Holt and Nunez strictly as fill ins for 3rd, short and second. With Devers not performing as well with the bat as expected and Pedey iffy, we can use them there.

I don't see much trade value in Swihart, Beeks or JBJ and we don't have a lot of payroll flexability so getting the players you suggest, while they would help us, doesn't appear practical.

For Jose Abreu?

Bradley, Beeks and Swihart? And somehow you think the White Sox would do that? If you were GM of the White Sox, would you make that deal? If so, can you please become GM of the White Sox?

Don't the Sox have to worry about any contracts, at this point for the Luxury Tax? July 31 would make more sense if your getting a Higher Contract, I would think.

Abreu is being held back for this he would get some good Prospects, which is what the WS are looking at. They don't want Contracts like JBJ, even to them too expensive.

cots has us at just over $38.3M over the limit. That leaves less than $1.7M to spend on an acquisition. A pro-rated contract of about $4.5M could be traded for on July 31st. That's it, unless we shed salary somehow.

If someone signs HRam, we will gain about $0.7M or so.

We could trade... (not saying I want to)...

Not pro-rated numbers

$10.5M Pom (rental)

$6.1M JBJ (2 arbs left)

$4M Nunez ($4M next year)

$2.2M Holt

$2M Thornburg

$2M Leon

$1.4M Vaz ($13.5M/3 afterwards)

Maybe the Sox should have traded Bradley for Puig when it was offered. After a very slow start, Puig has been on fire...

Looking back at things, I'm sure you would get agreement from some here. I would say that not in my wildest dreams, as badly has he has looked on occasion, I would never thought that JBJ would have looked as bad at the plate as he does right now. I also think that Puig might be the type of player management really wants to stay away from.

Yes and hindsight isn't the best basis for criticism. And thst is a good point about the insane Puig...

It probably is a very sensitive subject with some here notin but I do think that this team does have some concern for the types of players that they bring in. I've been really pleased overall with the guys that they have brought in from a character perspective. I know that some people might bring up Price's name to contradict what I have said. I'm not one of those guys. By all accounts, he is a good teammate and he wants to win.

Scooter G for Bradley and pick someone

What makes you think that JBJ and a no name would get that trade done? Scooter should be an All Star.
