They invested 13 million in Young. He's got his OPS up to .787 now. Not sure why this is even a topic.

The Sox are playing well and we desperately need something to complain about.

Last week, I heard that they were considering adding a position player, but a righty/righty platoon with Castillo and Young wouldn't make sense, and Castillo is not going to get any of Bradley's ABs.

Doesn't matter, there will always be minor data to try and play bat vs. Pitch matchups. Heres your platoon: Young first 2 AB every game/ Castillo last 2 AB (better arm, better late game defensive option) every game. Give or take.

Aren't we always complaining about the 12th guy in the bullpen or the 25th man on the roster?

Those players are in that position because they're usually not all that good.

It's low hanging fruit to say they stink.

Except when they don't....

Following along with the several of you that are talking Rusney. I like Holt and appreciate what he's done but think he needs a step back. It's time to let Castillo to have another run. It worked for JBJ .... (not everyone takes advantage of that next opportunity)

That's actually a very good point, considering similar troubles at the plate, similar issues w/ not shortening their swing enough. They should use JBJ as a sort of case study if they haven't already w/ Castillo.

I don't think we can compare Bradley to Castillo. Bradley had a proven track record of good hitting in the minors.

BTW, I knew that Bradley had a great arm, but I just read he's been clocked at over 100 MPH.

Because some people got it in there heads Young was horrible after a few games because they like to look at things like BA, he will be hated for a long time I forsee. I suppose if the team is so good all you can complain about is the platoon/4th outfielder then things must be going pretty good.

Speaking for myself, I watched Young stink up Citifield for more than half of a season in 2014. The guy was useless. Plus, he can't hit RHP, so I don't think he is the best fit as a 4th OFer unless you will be using a strict platoon.

That's a silly statement. Crisp doesn't need to play 'half the time' to be a good backup. You're just suggesting that he's at the point of his career where ideally he should transition into exactly the role that I want him for.

A switch hitter off the bench with a little speed and good defensive chops, who can't play every day (and therefore can't demand to play everyday) but could probably cover a 2 week stretch if he had to -- that would be nearly ideal.

It's not silly at all. Crisp was essentially a part timer in Oakland and still had significant injury issues. You can't just deny that because you think he'd be a good get for the team. He is extremely fragile, and you need dependability even if it is from a reserve OF. Remember Baldelli?

Young mashes LHP and can defend corners capably - and could play CF if you need him to. That is a perfectly fine 4th outfielder, especially since he is not the primary backup at CF.

I know there were some Sox fans who wanted to bring De Aza back. I'm sure they'd be thrilled with his current line of 186/239/279...

Met fans were pissed when he was signed, because it looked like they weren't going to resign Cespedes.

The way the sport is - with a 13 man pitching staff, you only have 3 non-catchers on the bench ... so the whining about those guys makes a little more sense than normal

Swihart is a lgit switch hitter, isn't he?

Problem solved.

Guilty as charged Dude.

Me too. Holt has flamed out.

That's a bit premature. He's in a slump. Slumps happen. Whether that slump turns into a death spiral or not remains to be seen, I think he should still be good for a couple good spurts of hitting before we really really need to replace him.

I'd bench him as we see what Castillo can do. My guess is Holt would still get another chance to show a hot streak, even if Castillo plays very well.

I liked De Aza ... once I saw how he played here. :) He's back to the place where the O's let him go. Too bad. Heheh .... unless he gets DFA'd and we pick him back up and he flourishes again.

But that would mean another one of our present 40 man roster would somehow fail and I'm not hoping for that.

Baaack to the offense.... heralded slow down seems to be upon us...

I'm ready for it to fire back up again.

I nearly fell out of my chair early last night when I saw that Holt and Smith went on the DL. Holt may have been influenced by a head injury. He's getting his time off now, Moon.

This DL is a sneaky little tool....

Hope Carson gets well soon!

Me, too, SB....

I loved that he flourished here after Buck let him go. He needs Fenway grass.

Just think where they'd have been with no Cespy last year... I miss his bat but not his listlessness. The Mets still only got him to commit for 3 years, $75 mill.

Yeah, Holt just totally forgot how to hit.

Got it.

I think it's what hit him ... in the noggin. :P On concussion routine on DL.

Let's hope it was a mild one. concussions are bad news that can have FAR ranging consequences. Anyone remember Marc Savard of the Bruins?

I wanted De Aza back as well.

That said, I liked the Young signing. I figured he would be good insurance if Castillo failed.

I'm surprised it took them this long to DL him. Apparently, he started feeling concussion symptoms on May 10. Why the heck is he just being DL'd now?
