If he's the "2nd" starting pitcher they acquire, i'm ok with two years, but they need a better option.

Plus he already turned down 2/25 so if it is two it has to be AT LEAST 2/29...hideous especially considering they have not signed the first arm yet to UN's point. And if it's three, stick a fork in me...I'm done.

Jackson and Sanchez. Sure, they will cost you much more and probably you will overpay them, but IMO They have lot better chances to post decent numbers (around 4.00 ERA) than Dempster in Boston.

They aren't signing Sanchez. They also seem to have an aversion to Jackson as they could have grabbed him on a short deal last year and decided not to.

I really can't figure out why they want to stay away from Jackson, seemed like he would have been a decent choice last year, still seems like he'd be a decent choice too.

 

Even at two years, I don't really like this deal. I feel like I'm going to be watching him pitch all season thinking they could have done better. Hope he makes me eat my words.

He could be. He's getting up there in age and could see rapid decline. Meanwhile, Doubront and Morales are both young and on the upswing. It's entirely possible that in 2013 or 2014 Dempster would be posting worse numbers than either of those guys. And they cost a fraction of what Dempster will.

I like the Dempster signing. He can't possibly be worse than the bottom of our rotation.

 

If it is two-years, I am okay with Dempster. The guy is a bulldog on the mound. He really battles.

 

The Sox were not trying to strengthen the top of the order with this signing. Dempster would slot in at the 4th or 5th slot in the rotation and will provide important depth. I hope to never see Aaron Cook in a Red Sox uniform again.

Hamilton may fall off the cliff in the latter stages of the deal, but for the first part, the top of their lineup is going to be unreal with Trout, Pujols, and Hamilton. That's a pitcher's nightmare

If he sox add another quality starter, get swisher and possibly sign Stephen drew I think that's a contending team.

 

It also gives us a ton of depth and versatility.

Trumbo would be a great return for Ellsbury- but he's probably best suited for LF at Fenway Park.

 

I guess you could platoon Kalish and Gomes in RF, but Gomes would be awful defensively.
