  1. Huh. That's a pretty specific price
  2. Also remember that it was a walk-off no-hitter that ended on a wild pitch. The winning pitcher, Henderson Alvarez, pitched a CG and was standing in the on-deck circle when the final out was recorded.
  3. Ortiz has the 4th highest career (min: 36 plate appearances or 14 BB + H) OPS in World Series history, at 1.372 (in 3 WS). The guys ahead of him all only played in a single WS. He trails: 3) Amos Otis: 1.495 2) Willie Aikens: 1.638 1) Barry Bonds: 1.994 Jon Lester is at or near the top of all the career (min: 20 IP or 4 decisions) World Series records as well #2 in ERA, 0.43 (the only run he's allowed in 3 starts was the 4th inning solo HR to Holliday in Game 5 this year) #3 in WHIP, 0.762 #7 in H/9, 5.143
  4. This was his breakout year..
  5. That's not that crazy. Nava may have stunk it up in the postseason, but he still had a really good season overall. John McDonald, yes, that John McDonald, is getting himself a nice, shiny ring. So are: Daniel Bard Brock Holt Jonathan Diaz Brandon Snyder Joel Hanrahan Jose De La Torre
  6. Jimmy Key ('92 Blue Jays and '96 Yankees) and Catfish Hunter ('72 A's and '78 Yankees) did it as well
  7. Sorry to hear. I was this close to getting stationed there back in 2009, and I fought tooth and nail to end up anywhere else.
  8. It's barely even relevant as a statistic in basketball, which a sing;e player can dominate and control a game a lot more than in baseball. But even then, the depth of the team is what matters most. i.e., When Allen Iverson used to miss time, the 76ers went from pretty good to absolutely atrocious. However, when Derrick Rose missed last season, the Bulls went from really good to pretty damn good. tl;dr - it's another of those dumb, made up "stats" that a lot of people swear by for some damn reason
  9. Still-at-work mojo in play here
  10. CY Lackey going balls deep today....
  11. This team sure is fun to watch again
  12. Uehara almost gets the 9 pitch, 3 K inning.. Dudes crazy good
  13. JBJ hasn't had enough time to show/prove anything yet. Prior to this year, he had roughly the same amount of MiLB ABs as Griffey Jr had, Jr just did it younger. Give JBJ a break here, he's only had 100 MLB PAs in limited action to start his career. How about we let him play a few months regularly before we start making any comparisons to anybody? And why are you trying to compare him to Griffey? Of course Griffey was better, he was a generational talent, but he's already falling victim to people inflating his stats. Yes, he crushed A pitching in '87 and '88 before getting promoted to AA in late '88. While he wasn't as productive there, he still hit AA pitching to the tune of an .845 OPS in 17 games. He didn't come up to the bigs and mash either. He started somewhat slow, with a .650 OPS over the first few weeks, had a nice summer, and then finished the year with a .600 OPS over the last couple of months.
  14. I hate you. You stole my answer
  15. Stephen "Monkeys in the Jungle" Drew, SS of the future (or at least the next 40-50 games)!
  16. Sweet, my name won't become irrelevant any time soon, completely unlike some of the others around here..
  17. I've never seen a guy excited to get back to work, only to be told by his boss to "shut the f--- up" about it
  18. That's not a very creative name..
  19. Parnell '49 - 122 SO, 134 BB, 158 ERA+, 1.327 WHIP Grove '36 - 130 SO, 65 BB, 189 ERA+, 1.192 WHIP, and 30 CG Sub-1.0 SO/BB ratio. Ouch. Individual W-L record shouldn't matter either, as the '36 Sox 74-80 while the '49 Sox went 96-58.
  20. Adrian Beltre 2010 would be a solid candidate for the reserve CIF spot
  21. So let it be written. So let it be done.
  22. Dutch Leonard 1914: 19-5, 0.96 ERA, 282 ERA+, 0.886 WHIP.... Oh Lawd And I'd argue that Papelbons 2006 was one of the most dominant seasons by anyone, ever. 4-2, 0.92 ERA, 35 SV, 7 ER, 0.776 WHIP, a 517 ERA+, and 5.0 WAR from a guy who only pitched 68 innings.
  23. Lefty Grove 1936 - 17-12, 2.81 ERA, 189 ERA+ in 250+ IP
  24. Julio Teheran, no hits allowed through 7 against the Pirates
  25. Damn straight.
