I thought maybe you meant RH RP.

Yeah, but if I meant RH RP, I'd have probably typed LH SP.  I blame Mead.

We need a bat, but I'd prefer SS, C or now 2B.

My trade proposal for Abrams is a great starting point…well, at least in my opinion it is😜

He'll be very costly, but Neto and Lindor have more issues.

Keep in mind that Neto is coming from a smal market team. LAA is not Los Angeles.  He has never played for a winning team.  He is relatively young and has some talent but I would be very reluctant to bring him to Boston

I've never bought into that line of thinking.

Remember how Sonny Gray couldn't handle the pressure of the big city lights?

I’m all in on him. Add Griffin too for a nice rental starter who’s having a solid year.

headlined by Arias and another top 10 player and maybe one of our MLb starters and a lower level player?

Yes I remember that he struggled some, and didn’t like it playing in NY for the Yankees. He’s a lot older, and wiser now, so your point isn’t what you thought it is.🤔

Abrams might be the worse defensive short stop in all of baseball. He's in the bottom 1% for range. If I'm trading for Abrams it's because I think he can be much better at 2nd, while also spending time at DH this year.  If I don't think he makes a good second baseman he's not a fit for this team.

If he had .3 years of control left and the cost was down and he's just a rental I'd be more inclined to bite.  But he's going to be on your team for 27/28 laying eggs at SS and making the pitching staff worse.

LHB pull hitter at Fenway. Abrams doesn't have the massive power that Schwarber has, so he'd lose a ton of HR. Not really interested. His name has been leaked so much that I don't think Craig is interested either.

Yeah, I just looked at his spray chart.  Still, he'd probably be an elite hitter in Boston but his numbers may take a hit.  Couple that with his subpar defense and it's a no-go for me.  I'd still have luke warm interest with him at 2B/LF if he could make those switches.  He'd destroy the Yankees

I don't think it would take much more than us picking up salary.  I'd bet he probably still has a couple of months left in him, and having him pick up some ABs supporting Yoshida, Duran and Abreu could work.

I'd put him the same boat as Neto.  If we won't be playing him at SS, then we go back to needing a SS (assuming Arias is involved), and having three guys to split up 2B and 3B in 2027.

If Moon's point was that the idea that Gray couldn't handle NYC was incorrect, then Moon was right.

Why did I think he was RH? Ok, this kind of changes things for me.
how the F did I miss that? A lot of my thought was based on him being a RHB. I must have looked at the wrong one. Throw/bat.

Sonny Gray is not the only example, either.

What is the age Neto could reach where the switch flips to being able to handle the spotlight?

The silliness never stops.

You’re jumping into a conversation that started last November, and you’re asking what someone was implying?🙈👋

Silliness to you most likely isn’t silliness to a lot of other fans. Have you ever listened to the many athletes who have said what it’s like being in the spotlight of playing in Boston? It wasn’t so called silliness to them.

Angels are not a small market team at all. It’s just been driven to a land of apathy, compounded by  the rise of Dodgers… Nevertheless it’s NOTHING like Boston in terms of pressure, which is your point…..
I won’t pretend to know the mental makeup of Neto… but it feels abstractly weird to bring it up as reason not to get Neto. You could then say the exact same thing about Otto Lopez, CJ Abrams, Hunter Goodman, etc etc. basically anyone not playing in NYC, Chicago, Philly, Dodgers. Because the pressure is not replicated in 25/30 teams.

I like the idea of George Springer, he is exactly a guy I’d want at plate in Oct. I’m not sure what it would take.

i think the trade I like most would be Otto Lopez (no Arias in deal) and add Pete Fairbanks.

The more I hear about how awful this big named SSs are on defense, the less I want them.

Sure, we can move Mead to 1B/DH and slide someone to 2B, but I'd prefer we just get a real SS or wait and pray for Arias to come through.

I hear ya. On paper they might be more obvious needs. But I think the goal should just be adding the biggest impact RH bat we can to replace Mead, for the lowest cost in prospects. If the cost of Springer is still relatively low, that looks like the best potential value out there to me right now, I don't like the C market much, or messing with what our duo has done with the pitching staff unless it's a no brainer upgrade. Maybe Liam Hicks if the price isn't too much. But we've been winning with the platoons we have. If we can add Springer for a mid prospect or two, I'm all over that. We know what he can do in the clutch. He looks healthy and his bat speed is back up to last years level, after being down to start the year. Plus we can still trade for one of those positions if the right deal is out there. Luis Robert Jr. would be my Springer plan B.

If so, we need to jump on that immediately. I really am not sure what he would cost at this point, which is why I asked. Couple weeks ago we could have gotten him for song, but I fear the price is rising by the day.

While agree a big bat is about as important as adding a pitcher, I don't see us swinging 3+ trades. We will NOT trade the farm away. Some, but not a big chunk of it. We need to be economical (thanks JH & Co.) and fill a positional need with a big bat.

We have too many DHs as it is. If Anthony returns, he's the DH, unless an OF'er needs a day off. Yoshida has been on of the teams best batters for over a month and is fine as a platoon DH. Romy ha sssucked out of the gate, but he's been one of MLB's best bats vs LHPs for 2+ years. A Yoshida-Romy platoon is not even the 3rd worst batting slot on the team, so why look there?

Now, one can argue Monasterio & Siegler have been doing pretty well as middle infielders over about the same period as Yoshida, but neither have longer periods of batting success as Masa & Romy. Wong is having a good year, but Narvaez has sucked big time, especially on offense.

Catcher, SS and 2B are way worse batting slots than DH.

Season:

.634 2B

.637 C

.650 SS

.672 DH

Last 28 Days C, 2B, SS, DH:

1.144 Monasterio

.839 Yoshida

.800 Sogard 5 PAs

.741 Cheng (demoted)

.667 Siegler

.618 Wong

.612 Romy

.558 Narvaez

I think Breslow is going to find the SS market fairly unpalletable, with most of the sellers having top tier (and therefore expensive) shortstops when all he needs is a short term rental.

Between Monasterio, Cheng and Sogard, he will probably try to hold down the fort until at least one of Story, IKF, or Mayer returns.

Now LF is a semi-wasteland.  Duran has been awful here, but once again, the temp solution is pribably in Breslow’s radar.  I think the guy he moves on is JJ Bleday.

I do also stick to Seth Lugo and Ty France predictions for now.

And a RP? John Schreiber? Makes some sense to me.

Looking past Abrams, Lopez, Lindor, etc. and ignoring the clear cut fantasies like Witt and de la Cruz for these simpler snd more easily acquired players.

From the set of Bleday, France, Lugo and Schreiber.  Doubtful on all.  Thats my final answer…

I'm going with Lugo (salary dump) and Francisco Alvarez in a big splash deal.

Why would the Mets move Alvarez? Hes gotta rank like 20-something on their list of roster problems…
