What matters is that we move up a notch in our quest to be the worst team in all of baseball and securing the top pick.

I disagree. The difference between the 1st or 4th pick in 2027 cant be what matters most.

Didn't know they were playing early.  Oh well, turned to the Dodgers: guy named Mookie just made an incredible defensive play, 3 for 3 with a HR so far.   A joy to watch (with Ohtani as a bonus). I'll catch Devers and Bogaerts later on.   May they all do well.

why can't we get guys like that?

This franchise absolutely sucks

What difference does it make where this team will sit in the draft.  Mayer was the #4 pick and we are still waiting.  This organization can screw up a pick regardless of when it comes along.

it is one thing to hate the yankees because they buy all their talent, but this is more fustrating

Cam Schlittler drafted in round 7 pick 220 from Walpole MA went to northeastern

Ben Rice drafted in round 12 pick pick 363 from Cohasset MA went to Dartmouth

They were both right under the redsox noses and they managed to screw that up, now they contend for the cy young and a MVP

I'd be more excited about the extra money....it's a consolation prize for sucking.

Oh for crying out loud, those two weren’t on anyone’s radar.  All 30 teams passed on Schlitter 6 times and 23 of them a 7th time before the Yankees took him.  All 30 teams passed on Rice 11 times and 20 of them a 12th time before the Yankees picked him.  Let’s not pretend that anyone, including the Yankees, thought much of either of them.  Everyone was wrong and the Yankees got lucky late in the draft. It happens.  Betts was a 5th round pick for that matter.

Neither was drafted out of high school and let’s face it, if they went to Northeastern and Dartmouth, they were not big time college players either.

true, however lightning struck twice for the yankees? they took a chance or had scouting that told them to take the chance. shouldn't the sox had taken that chance because they should of had their eyes on these guys from Boston? I don't believe in luck and certainly not twice

the brilliant sox scouting department brought us Mayer and Anthony......hey at least Roman had a nice WBC

The Sox take chances on players like those two all the time.   And like every team, the bulk of those chances do not pan out.

The Sox do have the occasional late round success story, like Connelly Early (5th round) and Hunter Dobbins (8th round) for example..

And everybody loved Mayer - he was a surprise to fall to 4.  But he was the top-rated talent in the draft that year by all the third parties.  Of course, “top-rated” talent hasn’t always been worked out for Boston.  See Groome, Jason…
