I was high-fiving the fact that we got Contreras instead of Alonso.

I was lukewarm on both.  But Contreras has worked out better and won’t be dragging the Sox down at the backend…

I always assumed we'd sign Alonso.  But Contreras is currently better.

I doubt you get anything.  Some players have more value for us than someone else.

If Narvaez has the value around the league that he has on BTV ship him…… tonight. His AB’s are not competitive. I think Wong and Gaspar have outplayed him. Maybe Narvaez for Adames straight up? Giants need a catcher of the future and we need a sh** ton of changes.

straight up for Adames would be fine with me, but i think the Giants view Daniel Susac as their catcher of the future.

I listened to national guys on MLB Now saying how poor catcher play has been for them. Maybe 3 weeks ago….  I could be way off.

maybe why they called him up from Sacramento. he has a 0.5 WAR in just 30 games. Narvaez is a -0.2 in 40 games.

Adames is a hard pass.  In 3 years, he’ll be Story…

The never-mending Story...

And I once thought Kris Bryant with his righty power bat was the perfect free agent fit for Fenway Pahk..

... and I was right: since he's always on the IL, he'd fit right in with the Red-faced insult to injury Sox.

Because he'll be 33?

The must sells

Wilson Contreras, Sonny Gray, Aroldis Chapman, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa.

There are other names we can talk about.  But all these players are on expiring deals (assuming Mutual options are not exercised which is almost certainly the case).  In the absence of any shot of making and competiting in the playoffs you just have to sell high on those guys.

EDIT: Wilson Contreras is not on an expiring deal, he does have one more year left.  I'd still keep him on that list.  Someone would pay handsomely for him the way he's swinging the bat.

Keep Good WiLL! A star right-handed power hitter is exactly what the Red Sox need more of -- like four more of them.

Trading your only All-Star for a return of promising prospects just means another five-year rebuild... or however long fans are willing to wait for another Big Three hopefuls to fulfill hope.

Because:

1.  He has less range than Sylvester Stallone and shouldn’t even be playing SS today

2.  All of his offensive metrics are trending in the wrong direction for the past 3 seasons (granted, moving to Oracle Park didn’t help him).

3. Yes, his age is getting into a range where career revivals are few and far between.

4. Adames has an NTC and no options to pick up to convince him to move.

Whats the argument for acquiring Adames and the $150mill he is owed over the next 5 years?

Also bear in mind, SF might be reluctant to deal him.  They’ve struggled to sign big name free agents recently despite competitive offers.  Trading away one of the few they can sign will not send a positive message for the future.

i agree...the only position player on this team worth keeping.

Contreras can be here through '28. If that's an expiring deal, there's a whole bunch of other players you can add to the list.

I wouldn't. But I do wonder if he's hurt.

YOu don't go from having some of the best range in baseball to having the range of "sylvester stallone" in one year from normal decline.  He's battling something.

If that's something he can easily recover from and that $150 million would be paid down would I consider it? yes

could be, but what are the odds? less than 10% certianly.  For all practical purposes I'd consider him here thru 27'

SF wouldn't pay down enough to make it worthwhile.

What are the options that a team picks up his 20M option for '28? Seems high to me!

I agree, and there is still a lot of games to be played, and time before the Red Sox have to make that decision. Either way he’s at least a keeper though 2027, and if traded he’d have to be replaced as will anyone like Chapman if traded.
