Oh Breslow.  Ignore my pleas for the strongest outfield arm in MLB who happens to hit right-handed.

If they do sign a RHH OF, the options are down to Grichuk and some Boston retreads (Pham, Margot, and Dunn)…

Grichuk and Robertson & call it a winter.

We'll still be way under the tax line with room for an extension, assuming it applies to 2025.

Consider it done. 😛

I wish.

I honestly cannot believe we add nobody significant before opening day.

Laureano went for $4M/1. It was a perfect one year deal for our philosophy. There is no way that deal could not fit into any model for the budget and roster.

It did not have to be him: Grichuk and a couple others are out there and may get a 1 year deal, too, so no excuses- get it done!

On the pen arm, I would not be surprised, if they feel they are done adding. We lost 3 major arms: Pivetta, Jansen & Martin. We essentially added 5 1/2: Crochet, Buehler, Gio, Hendriks, Chapman and count Wilson or Sandoval as a half.

We can use Crawford, Fitts, Priester or Dobbins in the pen, along with the 15 or so pen arm we have with some level of promise.

I still think we need a lockdown closer, but that ain't happening, so of course, I'm all for adding the best pen arm we can before opening day. Someone like Robertson or Finnegan would be better than nothing.

Just do it!

Now that flattery is back in Detroit, I am hopeful somebody signs pivetta.
I guess St. Louis needs to see yoshida is healthy before any discussions can begin about arenado

Rolling Stone named "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" by the Temptations at #2 on its 100 Greatest Motown Songs list. I like it better than their #1 -- "The Tracks of My Tears" by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles.

But you can't go wrong with Martha and the Vandelles "Heat Wave" (#4) or "Dancing in the Street" (#9).

I also like "The Tears of a Clown" (#10) as Smokey's best.

I may even like "Ball of Confusion" (#67) as my favorite Temptations tune.

Didn't make the Top 100, but most underrated guitar solos: The Isley Brothers "Who's That Lady?"

(ps. I hope somebody signs Pivetta in time for Boston to get a draft pick...)

Grichuk to AZ for $5M.

Another hope, even minor.... POOOF!

$2M for 2025 w $3M buyout on a $5M mutual option for 2026, so $5M/1 or $7M/2 with some incentives up to $500K.

He's 33.

It's easy to focus on the negative, and certainly several teams have better rotations than ours, although maybe not in the AL, but I think more easily overlook some serious questions about SP'ers on other teams. Yamo started just 18 games in 2024.

The Dodgers have a better rotation, but Ohtani is not pitching until May, They lost Buehler. Yamo started just 18 games, and Glasnow is literally made of glass. Susaki was the apple of everyone's eye, but he has never thrown a pitch in MLB. May has a ton of talent but is rehabbing. Stone started 25 games in 2024 and might have been their most reliable guy, in '24 and is out the whole '25 season.

The Yanks added Fried- someone I really wished we signed, but they also lost Cortes. Cole missed almost half a season in '24. Rodon was healthy but has an injury history that looks a lot like Buehler's. They are shopping their 29 GS'er Stroman. Gil & Schmidt are a couple nice younger SP'ers.

Philly has Wheeler, Nola, Suarez, Luzardo & Sanchez. Only Luzardo has big Qs.

ATL lost Fried and has the big Q for the previous 5 years in Sale, but damn, they have some nice starters: Strider, Reynaldo Lopez, Schwellenbauch & Elder. Strider did miss some time, but still...

NYY are shopping Stroman. Is he not a guy u wanted the Sox to sign last offseason?

https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2025/02/sam-kennedy-red-sox-have-taken-aggressive-approach-still-have-ability-to-add-to-roster.html

Speaking outside Fenway Park as part of the team’s “Truck Day” festivities Monday, Kennedy contended that Boston has acted decisively and aggressively this winter while leaving the door open for further additions — even significant ones, “depending upon how things play out here over the next couple weeks.”

“I do,” he said when asked if the club has acted with the urgency he spoke about in November. “The approach Bres (Craig Breslow) took was one of extreme aggression, extreme urgency. That doesn’t mean you’re going to end up signing every single free agent you engage with or complete trades that you embark on. It has been great to see the aggressive approach and the sense of urgency within baseball operations to improve.

“We have the ability to add, if we can match up on deals that make sense, in terms of where we stand right now. I was asked the question earlier in the offseason about the ability to spend. We were engaged in the Juan Soto negotiations. It is something we have the ability to flexible (with), but it is so player and deal-specific. We’re going to do what’s right for the Red Sox for the short-term, trying to put a team out there that’s built to win in 2025, but also what makes sense for the long term.

“It’s always a difficult line to walk, that balance. We get criticized for our messaging on that front and we understand that. It’s hard to navigate the short term and the long term. The only way to really follow up on that and have credibility and trust from our fans is to win baseball games. That’s what we need to do.”

"THE ARISTOCRATS!!!" he added.

Instead of that it looks like Sam is pretty much official team spokesman now.  Such is life in the upside-down world of the Sox.

They can't allow Henry near a microphone since the Winter Weekend debacle. Every time he is in public he's either shamed into signing someone or does something stupid.

I've mentioned it a few times - the fans base would have a lot more respect of ownership/upper management (but still be angry) if they were just honest in their comments and analysis.

No. I counted he and Gio as about the same.

We better get a pick for Pivetta. Is it still a rule, that if he goes unsigned after opening day, we don't get a pick?

Per MLB:

Players who are unsigned after the start of the MLB Draft in the year that follows the rejection of their qualifying offer are no longer tied to Draft pick compensation and can be signed without their new club needing to forfeit a Draft pick.

So, July 13th.

I will assume that he signs a deal before then. At worst, he should re-sign with the Sox as a reliever on a one year deal.

There will be quite a few players kicking themselves this winter for not taking previous offers on the table.

Boras thinks he redeemed himself with the Soto contract.  But Soto would of gotten anyone paid.  I don't think the players necessarily deserve this but it would be nice to see Boras fall on his face at the end of the offseason yet again.
