I don’t think most teams have a FT DH, but it’s worked out pretty good for the Red Sox through the years.

Actually I think most teams do have a full time DH…

Criswell was just named International League Pitcher of the Week.

You could probably call him adequate at least.

I can't see them giving up much to upgrade the position at the deadline. I assume if they do buy it'll be pitching.

Adequate for what? For a bench spot? Sure. For a starting spot? Depends on how he plays going forward. He's been in a little bit of a funk lately and that may continue. His OPS was really driven by a power surge that I don't think he can carry for very long.

That site is for people that sniff their own farts. Pass.

Interesting that those same posters you reference were intrigued by the Cooper Criswell signing unlike other that complained about it when it happened.

So far he's been very adequate. Not sure they can trade for anyone guaranteed to do better. Not sure this needs to be a priority.

Priority is starting pitching. Second priority for me would be a fielding SS (RHB preferable). Third would be a bullpen arm.

However, Casas is still not taking live BP. We don't really know his timetable. Do they need to add a RHB for 1B too just in case?

I know -- why would any player deserve promotion for doing well! There has to be some other suspect striking out all the time who would fit in better on the parent club.

Is he good... or just doing good? Ask the other high school picks from the 2020 who are already in The Show.

Team president Sam Kennedy just reiterated "resources will not be a problem when it comes to doing everything we can to be a winning championship team for the now and for the long term." Sam had his fingers crossed when he said that.

Like I said yesterday Casas isn’t close to being ready, and who knows what you’ll get from him when he does come back.

Sox v. Lefties

29% strikeout rate

Seattle is 29th at 26.3%

Raffy is at 35.3% - 163rd of 166 qualifiers

Just

.238/.302/.400/.702 v. Lefties

V righties

.321/.415/.689/1.104

O’Neill has a 1.123 ops v. Lefties - 2nd to Aaron Judge

Refsnyder has a .434 OBP - 10th

Wong has a .427 OBP - 12th

Duran is hitting just .250 with a .633 OPS (131st)

* They need another right handed bat

Maybe RHB should be a higher priority?

Started slow in 23. Started slow in 24. I think we have an idea.

Even if Criswell throws no-hitters in Worcester this month, they won't bring him back to Boston until the deadline so Sam can tell us he's better than any starter they can trade for.

We're 754 vs RHP/716 vs LHP

MLB averages 705/714

So yes, it's a weakness.

Hamilton has a bWAR of 1.6 and fWAR of 1.1 in about i/3 of a season's work, so he really hasn't been bad.

Exactly. That pace is one of the best we’ve seen at MI since 2020, except Bogey

I would not mind a RHB at MI, but a SP is by far the top priority.

Exactly.

But I think most believe you have to get through the slow start. And that it’s best to not prolong out…

My revised list

Priority 1 - SP. Here I like Tyler Andersondue to an additional year of control and a Bailey-esque approach on the mound.

Priority 2 - RHH. Mark Canha (.851 OPS vs RHP) makes for a platoon at DH with Yoshida or can play 1b until Casas comes back.

Priority 3 - MI. Brandon Drury was a RHH and good fielding 2b with pop until this year. Pass. Andy Ibanez has become possibly the most underrated 2b in MLB right now, due to good defense and the ability to murder LHP (1.027 vs LHP this year).

Priority 4 - Bullpen. If they just get priority 1 and bump Winckowski back here, this might be a non-issue…

Good news: Mayer, Teel and Anthony are all LHB.

Sam can go straight to the wall when the revolution comes.

If you get Drury and Canha, where does Ref play when we face a lefty?

By the time he gets back there might not be much time left.

Let’s not worry about Ref Man. Things usually work themselves out, and that bridge will be crossed if they get there.

RF platoon with Abreu.

I doubt the Sox get Drury and Canha, and the way Drury is going this year, hard pass. Andy Ibanez might be an upgrade at 2b, at least vs LHP. But it creates a roster crunch with Gonzalez/Hamilton…

O'Neilll RF

Ref LF

Canha DH

Drury 2B

A Triton Casas slow start is still at least as good as peak Dominic Smith…
