No. This is a different Logan Allen. The Logan Allen we traded flopped and is somewhere in the Colorado organization now.

Well, that's sort of a relief LOL

The most positive thing about Sale today isn't his stats or that he beat the below-average hitting Guardians...

... it's that when the game was on the line, Sale toughed it out, came up huge and left the tying run on third. He left it all out there, hit 98 on one pitch on the NESN screen, jammed Bell into tapping a one-stitch heater and got Gonzalez on a grounder to first. Then he even came back out in the 7th to get one more lefty.

Hopefully, he didn't hurt himself -- and I'm not joking. Sale may not be able to baffle the best hitters anymore, but today he showed he still has the balls to compete and contribute big time.

He is as tough a competitor who has picked up a baseball. I loved the trade that brought him here as well as the resigning that has caused so much panic about how the red sox chose to spend their money. It has been a long road for him to get back to where he is now. We need to sit back and enjoy him while he does what he does.

Right on cp. Sometimes it's nice to just appreciate a player.

I'll always root for him, especially for three reasons: 1. being the most dominant, unhittable pitcher I've ever seen in person; 2. bringing Machado to his knees; 3. fixing my cell phone for me so I could take a pic of him posing with my son.

This almost kind of feels like a back handed compliment. If Sale is healthy, and his command is on, and he can be more consistent, I don't care if it's the Guardians, the Twins, or the Rays, he's going to give us a chance to win the game.

Love the last one.

Thanks. We all needed to hear this one more time.

The other one is a much older 25…

It's his year 26 season. His bday is later this month.

The Logan Allen 2 was still in High School when the Red Sox made the Logan Allen 1 trade.

Yes, the 21st time being told is usually what is needed, here.

@jcmccaffrey

Paxton has another start for Worcester on Friday. His IL stint ends May 8. He’s coming off a strong start but overall his command has been spotty as expected with a two-year layoff. Sounds like they want to keep him as a starter but obviously will have rotation decisions soon

Pivetta has a stay of execution for now.

Whitlock might give Pivetta or Kluber an even longer reprieve.

Whitlock = bullpen!!!!! He is a fragile kind of guy. Good for 70-80 innings a year max

I was definitely on that bandwagon, but fell off after the 2019 season--and pretty much stayed off.

But right now he sure looks like the great competitor he was the day he arrived in Boston. Was I the only one who noticed that in the sixth inning of his latest start Verdugo fielded a single to RF cleanly and decided to uncork the greatest throw home ever--except that it went way over Wong's glove and caught cleanly by Sale who was doing what professional pitchers do, backing up the catcher on hits to the outfield.

Another good game by old friend E Rod today of 8 innings of 9K shutout baseball. He now has given up 2 runs in his last 34.2 innings, and now sports a not so gaudy 1.81 ERA. Last year was a pretty wasted year with personal problems, and it looked good not to resign him, but this year so far looks like a good keeper.

It will be interesting to see what Roman Anthony does with his career.

Trend shift?

Sale: 2 of last 3 starts were 1 ER in 6 IP.

12.1 IP, 6H, 2 ER, 2BB, 16K

Bello: last 2 starts:

10 IP 11H, 3ER, 3BB, 12K (2.70 ERA)

Houck: 3.88 FIP last 5 starts (team is 4-1) Take away a couple big and bad innings, and...

Kluber: 5.54 last 5 GS is about the best I can come up with. 3 of 5 starts with 3 or less ERs.

Pivetta: 5.61 last 5 GS (4.99 FIP) 3 of 5 last starts with 3 or less ERs.

You can't just take a couple of bad innings away from Houck unless you're going to limit him to 3 inning starts going forward.

He does belong in the pen long term.

Big bat. Looks great in the uniform. Doesn't have the right LA right now. Numbers aren't there yet, but that can be expected as it's his first full year out of high school.

I'm just going to guess: Jim Edmonds, but with 364 more HR's.

I was really hopeful for a minute. Oh well...

He can be a weapon as a multiple inning guy. And emergency starter.

The way the game is played today, pitching out of the bullpen is not the step down it once was. Starting pitchers used to throw 200 innings, now only a handful do each year; only 8 pitchers had 200 innings last year and that was a step up from 4 the year prior.

I'm fine with Houck in the rotation now, but if someone needs to be bumped at some point then I'd be happy with him in the pen as well. I think he can be elite there, and what are the odds that at least one of Martin/Jansen need to either be upgraded or replaced later in the season?

Very true, and if you take away every pitchers worst 3 IP, they'd be much better, too.

I think Paxton will push Houck back to the pen, where he has always belonged.

I had hoped the jerking of Houck from pen to rotation would stop, this year. (Same with Whitlock.)

Houck can find his way back in if Kluber never figures it out and/or a few injuries are sustained.

Also, I wouldn’t count out the #1 pitching prospect in the system being called up….one SHANE DROHAN who I told you was our best pitching prospect 🥸
