I think Paxton pushes Houck back to the pen too.

Houck can find his way back in if Kluber never figures it out and/or a few injuries are sustained.

Also, I wouldn’t count out the #1 pitching prospect in the system being called up….one SHANE DROHAN who I told you was our best pitching prospect 🥸

Just don't say he might pass Perales in the rankings.

Paxton went 5 IP and got the win. He was a bit wild.

The Nation will probably have to suffer through some rough spots , as with Kluber, until Paxton gets his legs under him and shows if he can do anything with the baseball. For the first time in a while in Boston, there mound may get crowded with capable arms. Whitlock, Houck may need to be flexible and Bello may need a package of RT tickets to Worcester while Paxton gets plugged in. On the other hand, the inevitable sore arm, elbow, shoulder, hip or hamstring is bound to show up soon enough alleviating the crowd.

Watching Chris Sale and I do mean the Chris Sale pitch last night gave me as much pleasure as just about anything I have seen sports wise in recent years. I am just so glad that we were all able to see him do it in a Red Sox uniform. I do understand all of the whining that went along with his resigning I guess, although personally I have have never questioned it. I guess that it is even possible (hopefully not) that we won't see that type of dominating fastball from him again but for now what a sight it was to see. A vintage top of the food chain competitor.

But can he reach the catcher without slipping a disc?

My standards are getting lower..

We might have to call him up quickly, just to say we got at least 1 IP from him, here.

I like that Worcester has a ball bit help Paxton navigate the dugout stairs!!!! Helps cut down more potential injuries

Right now Sale has 3 of the Sox 6 quality starts. He is the ace.

After Sale are--in order of innings pitched to date-- Houck, Pivetta, Kluber, Crawford, Bello, Whitlock, and Paxton. As it turns out, three of them--Crawford, Whitlock, and Paxton--are still on the IL and therefore unavailable.

The health of several pitchers just adds to an already very questionable rotation. If all were healthy I might say our best starters would be:

1. Sale

2. Houck

3. Whitlock

4. Bello

5. Crawford

6. Pivetta

7. Kluber/Paxton

(Drahan, Mata, Walter, Murphy)

(I might rank Wink in the top 5, but we need to not mess him up.

Kluber seems to be doing just enough to keep getting another look. Plus, it's not like we have anyone to replace him, right now.

3.86 ERA in last 3 starts vs. BAL, TOR & PHI, 3 strong offenses, so there are signs of hope.

I watched the last two starts for him. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't stick with him at this point for sure. Any starting pitcher that can keep you in ball games is worth quite a bit these days.

Giving up 3 ER in 5 innings a 5+ era is serviceable at best. It’s sufficient when the Red Sox have been scoring the amount of runs they’ve been scoring, but it won’t be when they don’t. Like I said serviceable at best. It’s a pretty low bar when a 5+ era is ok.

I must be in the minority but I just don't get excited for a Kluber start.

I am very interested in watching Houck today. I'm looking for improvements. I think he has the moxy to go 7 innings and also shut down the opponent.

I don't see that from Kluber.

Houck, Whitlock and Bello are developing. Kluber is just holding on.

I hate this type of signing by Bloom. I get it. Kluber is just a place holder.

Kluber was a cheaper option than Evol.

The way the team is playing right now, I can't find much to hate about Bloom's moves - funny how that works LOL

Yep....but I expect better option next year based on the fact that we are closer to competing for the ring.

It’s kind of like a game thread. All it takes sometimes is one bad pitch for the doom, and gloom to start, or one big hit that everything is great.

But if someone was to tell me I am getting a ticket for a Sox game, and if I have my option of dates, it would NOT be on the date Kluber is pitching.

Ok enough of my whinning.

Remember the old "No signing any SP'er over 30 Rule" that got broken, later on?

Now, it seems we have a new rule: "No signing any SP'er to over $10M," and we're talking 1-2 years max.

You usually get what you pay for, and until we start directing more resources, either in dollars or by trading valuable prospects, I'm not expecting great things from our rotation.

The Royals proved, long ago, that you can win it all without even a decent rotation, but those rings come few and far between.
