At the time yes I did, but it wasn’t just me, but players alike.

Nobody thinks the way they handled that trade was even okay.

VAZ bled SOX blood and Bloom handled his trade as if VAZ was a used car.

Yup.

I agreed then, too.

I was pointing out how Red hated the trade on its merits, too.

Vazquez knew he was on the block. His complaining about it just felt shallow.

The standard for being poorly treated by a trade will always be Bronson Arroyo

Barraclough was that healthy and fresh arm.

Indeed he was. However, I don't think his health was the real issue, but rather Cora, Tek, and the pitching coach's collective judgment on how tired the bullpen was.

I think they discussed that topic before the game and agreed to do something like what in fact happened--Barraclough pitching the last 4.1 innings and giving up a boatload of runs--provided certain things didn't happen.

First thing that didn't happen was Sale pitching at least 5 and preferably 6 effective innings. Second was the Sox with a good lead of, say, 3 runs, when the bullpen was called for. The third was Barraclough being able to hold that lead until at least the 7th and preferably the 9th inning when Jansen would be available.

Martin was available for the 8th. As you say there just wasn't anyone who could get us there.

Reyes placed on 10 day IL with inflamed elbow and will be replaced by the awesome David Hamilton.

That happened yesterday, no?

So you believe VAZ's notification of the trade was handled well? Short memories are a bitch.

It was a trade made just before the game. He was allowed to continue to take batting practice wearing his previous team's jersey.

During the deadline, should they just hide all players away until gametime and confiscate their phones so that their fee-fees don't get hurt? Should media be banned from the field so that they don't "swarm" for the "live reaction." Cora warned him about the potential of being dealt. Then he gets traded and the media both wants to swarm Vazquez and then point their fingers at Bloom for "allowing such a painful moment to play out in public." If the media wasn't there, or at the very least gave Vaz space, seems like it would be a much smaller problem?

I don't even remember him complaining that much. It was a media driven story.

Two words: Wilmer Flores. It happens in this age of instant and overwhelming information.

They don't make 'em like Joel Youngblood anymore!

It's funny, you think these bootstraps types would just tell players to go in there and do their job (like a good Bill Belichick pet).

Duran out for the rest of the season with toe surgery.

Between this and the whole COVID vaccine thing, I'm about at the end of my tolerance rope.

Like when Duran got a big chance when Duvall went down now it will be Abreu of the RAF Man.

I thought he and Houck refused the vaccine. My bad.

He did at first, but was convinced to change his mind after missing the first TOR series.

Realistically, we are going to need a miracle, starting tomorrow.

There is nothing to base any belief that it will start, tomorrow, but this team has brought us to extreme ups and downs, over and over, so maybe we have one last gasp in us.

One game at a time.

Sox would probably need to go 23-6 in their final 29 games to make the playoffs and even thay may not be enough. They are toast

How do the odds improve, if we go 7-0 v TEX(3), TOR(3) & HOU(1)?

Could we then go 14-8 in the other 22 and have a chance? (21-8 overall)

It will be over mathematically soon and we can start to focus on the steps we should be taking for the 2024 season.

I don't think 21-8 would be enough to get in.

And do you seriously think they can go on a run like that? They lost their closer. Duran is gone (who was a big part of the offense before) and the bullpen is gassed.

I like your optimistic but it's quite a long shot.

They have a 6.9 percent to make the playoffs according to fangraphs. One of Seattle, Houston and Texas would have to go on a free fall PLUS Toronto as well.

It's impossible with the state of our pitching staff.

Starters can't go 5 innings and relievers are burning out.

Bad defense only makes it all worse.

Such are Bloom's 2023 Red Sox.

I would not bet on us even winning 4 or 5 out of those 7. My point was that going 7-0 might mean we could get by with less overall wins to close out the season, because we'd gain 3 on TX and TOR.

It's a very long shot from here- no doubt.
