Maybe you need a refresher on the rules?

In order to protect eligible minor league players from the draft, teams must add those prospects to their 40-man roster by 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Hoy Park was acquired on 11/23. It didn't impact Ward's Rule 5 pick at all.

Yup, I had forgotten about that. Still, leaving Ward unprotected is easily a bad decision.

.. and one that was compounded multiple times by DFAing other players over Ort…

Well, at least this happened to a team that could afford to lose a promising young pitcher. The last-place Red Sox '22 pitching staff only allowed the second-most runs, hits, HBPs, and ERA in the league... only the Royals were worse... though Boston did lead the AL in balks and oldest average age (good thing we replaced Hill with Kluber -- he's six years younger than 43!).

A lot of good commentary on here--way above my pay grade.

On the other hand and just because it's near the end of spring training, I would like to say I never thought Houck was starter material. He keeps saying he's better than an ERA of 8, and he probably is. But 7, 6, or 5 won't help much either. He has neither good stuff nor good command.

Well come on! He looked great today.

How is Ort being considered for the opening day roster? Unbelieveable! He sucks.

Houck is not a starter. He doesn't have 3 pitches. He has been rocked all spring.

I’m ok with him getting rocked all spring off the reason is that he was working a third pitch…

Maybe he goes unclaimed and is offered back to us.

Most likely.

And the Sox likely get back either Song or someone of equal value in a trade.

That just leaves Ward as the that got away…

Chang over Dalbec.

Wong over Alfaro.

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Red Sox made a couple of decisions on Monday that put their Opening Day roster into greater focus. Bobby Dalbec, who broke camp as the Boston's starting first baseman the past two seasons, was optioned to Triple-A Worcester. That move has cleared the path for

I cannot imagine a successful starter with just 2 pitches--except of course for knuckleballers.

He has a splitter that he throws less than 10% of the time, but against LHB (xSLG 207). It's supposed to help with his FB/SL combo, which is mainly effective against RHB. His 4 seamer just isn't a great pitch as it's too straight.

Maybe he's offered back to us, and we say no, but I doubt it.

We wouldn't have to put him on the 40 man roster and that AA bullpen looks horrid.

@PeteAbe

#RedSox wrap it up against the #Braves:

Verdugo RF,

Devers 3B,

Turner DH,

Yoshida LF,

Duvall CF,

Casas 1B,

Arroyo 2B,

McGuire C,

K. Hernández SS,

and Crawford RHP

Seems like Verdugo is getting most of the leadoff starts these days.

Good to see the dingers, less good to see Crawford give up 4 in 3 innings.

2 of the runs were on that deflected ball.

Atlanta is a good hitting club, and their A lineup was in there today. There wasn’t to many games this spring that the Red Sox pitching faced the other teams A lineup.

Love how the pitching staff picks each other up. Houck had a bad start yesterday, so Crawford is out there today doing his best to take the heat off his teammate.

Our pitching has been dreadful for weeks now.

It has been a little worrisome.

Let's hope we right the ship when the real games begin.
