He took over a crap team a crap system, and had a 1/3 of a season. As far as I’m concerned the U.S. government should just pass legislation officially removing 2020 from the record books, for both life and sports.

So he’s 1 for 2 after this season, with this year having a well above average number of key injuries. Next year is the real show me year for Bloom.

That crap team in 2019 had Betts, Bogaerts, Benintendi, Vasquez, Moreland, JD Martinez, Holt, Devers, Bradley, that’s a pretty good roster to inherit and you really think this years team compares to the 2019 team, WOW

It’s not up to us to enforce it or even worry about it it’s only a number on a piece of paper, that can change on a JH whim

In 1984 all 3 SOX outfielders, Rice, Armas, and Evans each had over 100 RBI.

Hunter Renfroe reminded me a lot of Evans in right field

Some talksox poster is running his fingers to baseball-reference right now to find some stat to prove to you how bad that team was because those three were paid too much money, and none of them could play second base in case of emergency or save the pen by pitching the 9th inning of a blow-out.

Speaking of John Henry's whims. Over the years he has proven that he will fire someone the second he determines that an individual is not suited to his future plans.

Bloom will be fired. The question is when.

Last place in the Div, and last Last wild card standing update. 5 games back in the L colum for last place, and 6 games back in the L column for the last wild card slot. One game at a time, and Let’s Go Sox!

I am still pissed thinking of the load of prospects we could have gotten by trading those guys away.

Agreed.

Not sure why but for all the minor leaguers Bloom has accrued, only Winckowski (and Gambrell, who looked more like a throw-in) have been pitchers…

What about Whitlock, German and Seabold?

...and all for what? The fans they tried to keep happy enough to keep watching the team are irate and bitching up a storm.

We played it halfway back before the 2013 ring, and it worked, but we traded away basically our whole vaunted rotation. I'm not sure we get the same results from this halfway stance.

We got a couple nice prospects for Vaz. I have to think we could have gotten something valuable for Nate, JD and to a lesser extent Wacha, Hill, Strahm and maybe Kike. Had we pitched in some or most of the money- even better returns.

Plus, we could have gotten under the tax line, so we'd be starting fresh with a year one tax for 2023.... not year 2 rates or a reset priority.

Another one worrying about billionaires money maybe you can have some bake sales or rummage sales to raise some extra money for them, ticket sales have been down they can use all you can spare, that budget number is just that a number and can change whenever John Henry and the Red Sox want it too and usually does

Failing to build a playoff team at the deadline then Bloom should have made every effort to get below the lux tax. I think that failure is going to force him to stay below the lux tax in 23.

What one is done or in this case what's not done is also done (over). Let's see if Bloom is really up to the job of building a more competitive team. The verdict is not yet out.

I'm not "worrying about" Henry. I'm not justifying his going stingy, at times. I'm just facing the reality that it is what it is.

He opened the wallet enough, IMO, this winter, to make us more competitive than we ended up being, but I don't think he or Bloom saw this deadline as being the right time to splurge and sacrifice some of the future to go for a ring. I agree with their assessment.

You don't, but it is what it is. Henry chose not to spend at the deadline.

100%.

Just trading JD alone puts us under the tax line for 2022.

Big mistake.

That certainly hurt your dreams of "long term sustainability".......

As many have posted many times, it's about balance. My dreams of long term sustainability are alive and well.

We were over by about $12 million before the trade deadline, so how do you figure that?

I read somewhere it was about $7M, and that trading JD alone would get us under.

cots shows you are correct, so maybe trading JD, Vaz and Dieman would have gotten us close. Probably would have had to trade Wacha, Kike or Hill, too.

No. Wrong.

Evans was a complete player who could hit, field, throw, use power, work the count, make contact, and put up career numbers worthy of Cooperstown.

Renfroe can hit home runs and throw hard, sometimes on target…

JD had an AAV of $25mill, so he would put us close…

Another one who thinks the Sox don’t have spending limits.

There’s a difference between “worrying about Henry’s money” and just acknowledging he’s not going to have a $300mill payroll…

1/3 is about $8M.

cots shows we are $11.8M over, right now, and I assume that counts Vaz's cut.

Irate, and bitching up a storm, and proud of it. This team is in last place, and an embarrassment. Always have to bash someone who doesn’t think like you either players that aren’t good enough to fit your standard, or the fans who don’t share your views.

But it certainly did hurt building the farm.

The sox aren't going anywhere this year, the failure to capitalize on trading the expiring contracts was just another poor decision by hang 'em chaim.
