Im sure plenty of Yankee fans were laughing. I know a few Red Sox fans who were disgusted, though you wouldn't know it on a forum called talksox, because the members who are pissed are either done with the hangers wearing this laundry, watching football, or know better than to vent anything perceived as negative, lest Sam Kennedy's interns pounce on every single word or phrase in defense of a last-place organization.

If only we had more active posters on here!

Try saying something positive and watch the anti-Bloomers pounce..

It's pounce and pounce alike.

And I bet there are several posting bots on here that couldn't even name the Red Sox General Managers since Theo Epstein left!

Nobody shot down my positive stat, so I'll keep celebrating:

With McGuire's home run vs NY, the Red Sox now have even more pitchers with four-baggers than Ohtani's Angels!

2022 Boston pitchers with HRs: McGuire, Plawecki, Bradley, 1 each.

2022 Angels pitchers with HRs: Jack Mayfield 1, Ohtani 34.

Wait, what?

There are robo posters?

Then, what's the problem with robo umps?

They are a bit rusty!

The MLBPA has been pushing for stainless steel robo umps.

As long as they don’t dress like that robot maid on The Jetsons. That’s just creepy…

Yeah, baseball determined that it was far too sexy already and didn’t need Morganna or Sox Appeal or Sexy Robot Umps.

If you check them closely, you will find they are human umps, just like they always have been. The difference is that they will use up to date technology assistance in order to get more accurate strike zone calls. Denigrating the concept by referring to them as somehow robotic is just a form of the old name calling game to resist a new and better idea.

Fantastic! Now if we can only persuade Ohtani to take a home-town discount to play in Boston, or maybe just play for vet's minimum, we'll be fine.

No change in the standings, and with only 19 games to go I think the only question left is if the Red Sox can get to what seems to be that elusive 500 mark. With being 5 games away I’m saying no.

Our next 5 games are against weaker teams. But after that, it's a Bataan Death March of 14 against the other 4 AL East teams to end the season.

So .500 is extremely unlikely.

Getting out of this season without any more injuries would probably be a more important goal.

Not just injuries, but injuries that all seem to take much longer than first thought. Anybody seen Hosmer lately?

No, we sure didn't get to see much of the Hoz.

Pessimist. First the simple math: the Sox may be five games below .500, but play six more teams. It's at least possible Boston can win one each against those six remaining opponents.

But they're big leaguers learning to play big leaguers learning to play big league baseball. So any club can win on any given day that ends in a why. If the Sox win all of them, they'll finish with 85 Ws... but we have to be realistic. Since this is a year they always seem to fall short, they'll most likely drop a few.

As far as those 14 games against AL East games are concerned, the pessimist is the realist.

The simple math is that if the Red Sox win one game against each of the remaining six opponents to go 6-13 the Sox will finish 12 games under .500.

If the Sox win five series against remaining foes, and split the four-game series, the Sox would finish no worse than .500.

He's shut down for the year I think.

But they've played so well against the AL East all year?!?!?

There’s no real point in bringing him back, is there?

He's cheap. A league minimum Eric Hosmer has value. You could deal him at some point.

I agree, and until Dalbec shows he can hit better than Hosmer, I'd prefer Hosmer.

I mean this year.

I agree his league minimum salary gives multiple options for the Sox…

Do you really want to see Hosmer? He sucks

I wouldn’t say he sucks. He’s just boringly mediocre across the board…

As a backup, he's fine.

Exactly, but it's not an ideal situation. Team's don't usually keep a guy on the 26, unless they plan on using them for more than every time your 1Bman needs a day off. If he could play another position, maybe. If he could DH, maybe. I don't think he hits well enough to DH.

If he can platoon, somewhere, then yes.

He had rare revers splits, this year, but he may be good enough to bat v RHPs at 1B or DH, if he can stay over .750 or so.

The problem at 1B is that Casas bats lefthanded, too. (Enmanuel Valdez bats LH'd, too.)

A Pham-Hosmer platoon at DH might reach JD's .765 number in 2022, but I would think we might try to do better.

Posted

Don't pencil in Valdez for a 26 man spot already. If he makes it, it will be as a UTIL guy, which is not the bench 1B role we're talking about anyway.

The question is would the Sox rather find a bench role for Dalbec or Hosmer. Dalbec can play 3b/1b and they are going to try to work him into LF. If they can give him more versatility and limit his at bats, he becomes more valuable to this team. However, if they don't think Dalbec is going to stick, they don't really have another option as backup 1b. Not having a platoon at 1b isn't the end of the world. Having Casas/Hosmer on 4/1/23 is at least a better option than going with Dalbec/??? like they did this season. Casas hasn't exactly broken out either. Maybe keeping Hosmer around just in case is a good idea?
