Former Sox lefty , Frank " Sweet music" Viola was managing in A Ball. He was ejected for arguing balls and strikes. With the Robo ump !!!

How do you argue with a robot ump? You’d have to know how to swear in C++..

Marinak said players subject to the ABS will be measured before their first game, and the top of the strike zone will be 56% of their height and the bottom 28%. The strike zone will be measured two-dimensionally at the front of home plate.

Since the concept is a work in process, they may ovalize the box to reduce the differences at the very front and bat such that the calls will seem more consistent with what a good umpire would call. No more catcher framing. The call is relayed to umpire through an earpiece and there is no use arguing.

Hope that helps.

He didn't know it was a robot. So, basically Westworld Baseball.

Sounds good to me.

Problem with that is that some pitches are off the plate when they pass the front but clip the back part of the plate due to spin and movement. That being said, this is more consistent than the garbage we saw Sunday night. Joe West missed a pure cockshot

I'm pretty sure the chUMPIRE union won't accept this w/o a fight. Their whole existence is to protect their members, no matter how much proof is presented that they've not performed at a high level. By accepting robo umps, they're pretty much admitting the incompetence.

The front of the plate is the strike zone. That's fine. That's where the robo zone is.

They'd be booed a lot less if they didn't have to call balls and strikes though.

We all want consistency.....that's all.

We all know going in who gets the benefit of doubt. It can be a pitcher or it can be a hitter.

Also just because a pitcher misses the glove doesn't make it a ball.

@ChrisCotillo

Matt Andriese's time with the Red Sox is done, as the club designated him for assignment. Josh Taylor activated from the COVID-19 IL.

Poor Matt Andriese is available again after being designated for assignment Tuesday despite striking out the side Monday evening in the 1-2-3 ninth inning of Seattle's 13-4 win over Oakland.

Cora on Barnes: ‘At one point, I guarantee you, he’ll be part of something important here’

Well then get to the point, man!

Heartless and classless organization.

That is good news.

UPDATE

@alexspeier

Cora says Whitlock threw 60 times on flat ground. ‘A big step for him, obviously.’ Cora says he thinks Thursday is unlikely for activation (the first day he’s eligible).

Watch out the Sox don't let him back in their perpetually swinging bullpen door... Can Andriese qualify for a Red Sox postseason roster spot -- since, unlike Iglesias, Matt was in the Boston organization this year prior to Sept. 1?

Time to cherry-pick arbitrary dates.:)

Since August 21 of last year, the Seattle Mariners are 106-84, the Houston Astros 105-86 and the Boston Red Sox 104-86.

Since June 12 of this year the Mariners are 56-35 while the Red Sox are 49-42.

The Red Sox are likely headed to the postseason while the Mariners probably won't advance past the regular season for the 20th year in a row.

That's life.

With a -52 differential, the M's are lucky to have any chance at all. :)

True ...

... although since June 13 the Mariners have a positive 14 run differential while the Red Sox have a positive 31 run differential over the same period.

Having the Angels and Rangers in your division makes it easy to suck your way to a bunch of wins. Put that same team in the East and they're doormats

They did play the NL West, this year, so harmony has a point.

The big negative run differential trumps all, to me.

The Yanks, Sox and jays deserve it more.

This year the Seattle Mariners posted a 19-15 (.559) record against AL East teams.

The Yankees were the only AL East team with a winning record against the AL West this year.

And, as moonslav noted, the AL East teams boosted their records with the easier draw in interleague play this year.

Since 2018 (including the "all-time great" Red Sox club), the AL West has a winning record in head-to-head competition against the AL East (although it's a virtual tie).

The realistic view of 2021 is getting darker and darker.

Oh, wait. That's my eyelids closing.

Good night.

Just win, tomorrow.

Scary times in Sox Nation...

90-68 NYY +2 WC1

88-69 BOS +.5 WC2

88-70 SEA -.5 WC2

87-70 TOR -1.0 WC@

85-73 OAK (all but dead)

We are dangerously close to putting our hopes in the hand of others.

Just win, and we're in!

2 solo HRs, again. This pattern is killing us.

Errors and non errors on playable hits, too.

I know we broke the team record for 3-run HRs in a season, but we need a few more, and pronto!

I had hoped Sale was ready to be "pushed" to an extra inning, but sadly that was not the case.

Houck doesn't look the same, either. I'm not sure a returning Whitlock is going to do any better.

I'm glad we have Eovaldi going, tonight, despite his last start, but it might all come down to Richards and Taylor.

It would be nice to get up by 6 or 7, but at this point, that seems like fantasy.

Yanks are 90-67.

Sox have five more games against slugs.

Seattle has two more vs A’s before facing Halos

Jay’s have two more vs yanks before playing the O’s.

If Yanks win one more game vs Jays, they guarantee at least a tie with them, but with the Mariners surging it doesn’t guarantee a tie for a WC spot. Crazy times. Should be a fun finish
