...and it can be a major one. With multiple bad calls, like that game, seemingly way more against the Sox, it can be the most important reason for a loss.

Of course, we don't know what might have happened had one or more calls been different.

VAZ did catch that foul tip off of Judge. That Cora stayed in the dugout and did nothing is inexcusable. Although that bad call cannot be reviewed, at least he could have had the chUMPS talk to each other about it.

Yes, I believe the ump can ask other umps, if they saw it, but I never understood why another ump can't initiate the conversation, if he saw something different.

On the foul tip play, Cora was on the phone with his replay guy. Apparently the guy advised Cora to let it go.

Let it go for replay, yes, but why not ask the ump to check with the other umps?

Not if I'm posting a direction.

Do we really care where Joe West goes? As long as he goes.

In fact, I like that statement to read:

“Go, West. And take Angel Hernandez with you.”

Who was the 'replay guy?' Stevie Wonder? Cora isn't god; he screwed up and if he was god, I would have already been struck by lightning.

Angel is the poster boy for how the chUMPS' union couldn't care less about the performance of its members.

Cora is not God , but he is up for sainthood according to some folks around here.

At least robo umps calling balls and strikes will be consistent.

It seems like half of a pitcher and hitter's approach to hitting on any given night is studying or adjusting to the umps proclivities.

. The robo ump better be better than my Robo vacuum. That's all I can say. Well , I could say more , but that's all for now.

I have the Official Joe West Robo Vacuum. It cleaned the den and then for no reason ejected Mark Buehrle…

Speaking of sainthood, please check out the new limited series on Netflix called MIDNIGHT MASS. It also includes some pretty decent songs by Neil Diamond.

It's directed and created by Michael Flannigan, who did some very good work on a few Stephen King novels made into movies.

I watched the first episode last night. It was fine.

Just give us a consistent strike zone, so everyone knows what to expect.

I'm sure it can be tweaked, if some flaw is found.

They used a robo strike zone in a lower minor league this year, no? Does anyone know how they 'set' the zone or how they adjusted it for different hitters. Was there any debate about the virtue of having one and only one zone as opposed to adjusting it so that a tall hitter has a larger strike zone than a short one? (They don't penalize tall basketball players by raising the net when they shoot; why should Judge's strike zone be different from Altuve's?)

Good questions.

I brought up this point, earlier, and also making sure a player that crouches in his stance does not have his K zone shrunk.

I will say, Altuve having a K zone over his head might be an issue.

If you make Altuve's K zone universal, we'll see a lot of walks.

I agree. The strike zone should be in direct relationship to the natural height of the batter. Crouching is not the natural height of the batter.

@FrankViola16

1st time use of trackman with @RockersBaseball at York tonight. Got myself tossed in the 1st. Problem was was it trackman, or was it human strike zone?! That was problem. Who or what was in charge?? Major problem. Let each team know at all times what’s going on...

It does seem a bit unfair that Altuve will have half the K area as Judge, but it would also seem unfair, if it was as big as Judge's zone for him, and that small for Judge.

I’m sure they can adjust using software. Software was used nearly 30 years ago to make a realistic looking Tyrannosaurus and a slightly less realistic looking Jeff Goldblum. I’m sure they can develop some code to tailor the zone to an individual hitter some 3 decades later.

They have to. The rules call for it. Make the software fit the rules, not the other way around…
