Assuming that's it, Max Scherzer finishes his seven-year run in Washington with a 2.80 ERA and 1,610 strikeouts in 1,229 regular-season innings. Fully worth the $191.4 million.

John Henry hurt the Sox by dicking around that offseason with the "no pitchers over 30" ********.

Was it him or was he told that?

@jcmccaffrey

Brasier and Sawamura are among a group of pitchers taking PFP here pregame. Marwin Gonzalez is running the bases in preparation of going on a rehab assignment this weekend.

So, Marwin before Arroyo? Bummer.

Brasier is close?

If Brasier was 100%, that'd be a great addition to the pen. I'll be much happier to see Marwin back and Chavis in AAA.

Houck sent down? WTF?

Just pitched so he’s unavailable for a while and he has options. It’s temporary

In terms of pitchers over 30 i would take wheeler he’s younger.

He'll start on August 7th so he'll come bacl up. Meanwhile he's going down to stay in routine, start for AAA team. Unless someone gets hurt.

Sounds like we'll have to stomach one more turn of Richards.

Agreed.

I'd like Arroyo over Marwin.

Absolutely. In fact, sending him to Worcester allows Houck to pitch once between now and his next start--the doubleheader in Toronto. Meanwhile, however, losing Houck allows Cora to keep Wong to back up both Vazquez and Plawecki, whom he wants to use more.

Since Vaz needs more rest, just play Plawecki over Vaz more often.

The doubleheaders create some extra need for catching, but with Marwin & Arroyo out, 3 catchers seems excessive and misguided.

Wong does have a significant amount of infield experience…

Merloni touched on it on EEI. Houck has options left and the Sox are expecting to pick up a pitcher. Best to have Houck is depth right now and then sort things out after the deadline

That's it. We will trade for a pitcher or two, very soon.

I still think we should trade or DFA Richards, and maybe even trade Perez, too. He won't likely do well in the pen. That frees up room for Houck, Sale and 2 pitchers, assuming we DFA Workman and one from Rios or Andriese.

It's time to have your best players on the 26 man roster.

Bye-bye:

Richards

Perez

Workman

Rios

Andriese

Santana

(Keep Chavis in the minors.)

According to the advanced defensive metrics, Rizzo's Gold Gloves were yet another joke of the award.

He's a shiny mirage.

(He reminds me of CC.)

E Rod apparently having another tough luck outing...down 0-4 after two innings. His balls contantly run into bats.

Our rotation is seriously in trouble. But we can send down Houck. Go figure.

Just a temporary roster convenience. He will return for his next start.

I thought they have to wait 10 days before they can recall a player that gets sent down.

You do, unless you're replacing a player added to the IL

Also I think the 10 day wait does not apply for players called up to fill a spot on double headers

Would you rather have ...

Schwarber or Rizzo?

Schwarber or Gallo?

Schwarber or N Cruz?

My major concern with Schwarber is his health. Rizzo, Cruz and Gallo will start to produce now. Schwarber is a question mark, it could take 2 weeks but it could take a complete month as well.

Plus Xander, Arroyo, Devers are not oks. JD is dead cold. Duran is struggling. Renfroe is struggling. Cordero and Chavis are useless.

It’s going to be a tough weekend/week.

I think another move is coming.

Kike slides into 2B more, and Verdugo goes to CF. The next move is to plug up 1B, maybe they're targeting Santana or Hosmer or someone else. But that would be a pretty nice lineup.

Kike

Bogaerts

JDM

Devers

Schwarber

Hosmer/Santana/someone not named Dalbec

Renfroe

Verdugo

Vazquez

Houck sent down because his next start is in Toronto, meanwhile, Cora needs that slot for Wong or whoever.
