So if oft-injured Franchy Cordero is actually injured to start the season, who are the candidates to replace him?

If he is the LF, is Marwin Gonzalez the likely replacement? But what if he is in CF?

The 40 man roster has only two other outfielders on it - Marcus Wilson and Jeisson Rosario. Rosario has never played above A ball and Wilson is not all that impressive, but is at leat close to MLB.

Duran? But someone has to go to get him on the 40 man. Chavis? Is he really considered OF depth?

What is ailing the Big Papi clone? LOL!!

Oh, i thought he would have been off the COVID list by this time. Did he have complications?

He was placed on the list Feb 22.

I found this...

It’s unclear whether Cordero tested positive or is isolating due to contact tracing. Per the MLB’s health and safety protocols, “individuals who test positive will be required to isolate for a minimum of 10 days, receive appropriate care and monitoring from the Club medical staff, and be cleared by the Joint Committee and the individual’s team physician, following a mandatory cardiac evaluation and a determination that the individual no longer presents a risk of infection to others.”

Meanwhile, players who have had close contact with a confirmed case of COVID “will be subject to a mandatory quarantine of seven days and must test negative on day 5 or later among other requirements to rejoin club facilities.”

and this...

Red Sox OF Franchy Cordero (COVID-19) could rejoin the team on Monday. (Chris Cotillo on Twitter)

Alex Speier...

Cora says Sox are hoping Franchy Cordero (COVID protocols) is cleared to play before Tuesday.

While I admire Matt Barnes sticking up for his teammate JBJ....the reason he is not signed isnt on the teams, its on JBJ & Boras. Did Jackie actually think he was getting 3-4 years @ 15-20 mill/per year? Jackie my man..its March 1st ok...youve already gotten your best offer.

Getting the large paycheck he got last year kinda skewed his perception of his market.

That's what I think, too.

I was kind of shocked we paid him that much, despite still being able to re-set.

I'm sure Boras is part of the issue, too.

Him, and the national media that kept ranking this offseason's free agents. Everyone listed JBJ as the second-best centerfielder. Media coverage -- including quotes from industry sources -- may have more influence on the market and player values than even forum posters (no matter how much quantitative data we dig up).

We saw him year in and year out. The offensive upside was immense, but he always seemed to find himself at the bottom of the order due to frigid cold streaks. Defensively, he was really good, but metrics say guys like Kiermaier were better. With JBJ, it seemed to be more hype than results.

No. If that was the case, arbitration would have been involved. But he accepted an offer prior...

On February 26 three years ago Scott Boras secured a five-year, $110 million contract for J.D. Martinez after MLB Trade Rumors had predicted Martinez with a six-year, $150 million contract.

This offseason MLB Trade Rumors predicted a two-year, $16 million contract for Jackie Bradley Jr., who may be in a line for a similar adjustment in expectations.

Their predictions are kinda all over the place.

If Jackie experiences a perfectly proportionate adjustment, he will sign for 1.667 years and 11.733 million.

He better hope he signs before June 1.

I keep refreshing MLBTR hoping to see "Red Sox to sign Odorizzi (or Bradley or Porcello)", but all I get is a picture of Chaim Bloom smiling and telling me to remain patient.

Odorizzi must be clinging to his demands without any wavering. If the Mets were able to sign Taijuan Walker to that deal, i't's hard to imagine they did not offer it to Odorizzi first.

At this point, I have to think the three of them are simply going to wait for some team to have a key injury in Spring Training and then offer their services, and without discount...

Year Innings DRS UZR OAA

2016 1375.2 14 8.2 9

2017 1204.1 15 3.7 15

2018 1137.1 -1 7.4 9

2019 1247.0 -2 -1.2 6

2020 471.0 5 1.8 7

In our conversation about the projection, Dan Szymborski pointed out that ZiPS holds Bradley in a more favorable light than the other systems housed at FanGraphs when it comes to both OBP and SLG. He added that ZiPS see Bradley’s 2020 BABIP (.343) as about a 30-point overperformance based on his Statcast data; “Thus it views him like a .250/.330/.420 hitter who’s now on the wrong side of 30.”

The additional problem for Bradley is that if such a forecast is in the public sphere, it’s quite possible that teams’ internal projections are telling them something similar, making it all the harder for him to land the contract he envisions. Even so, the ZiPS model places a $27 million valuation on the first three years of the above projection. While multiyear contracts among outfielders haven’t been as scarce as those for pitchers this winter, only George Springer, Marcell Ozuna, and Jurickson Profar have landed deals for longer than two years, with five others (Michael Brantley, Brett Gardner, Robbie Grossman, Enrique Hernández and Kevin Pillar) landing two-year deals. Besides Springer, Ozuna, and Brantley, all of the other deals have had an average annual values of $7 million or less. Something along the lines of Profar’s three-year, $21 million deal might have been a realistic target under the circumstances.

Potential fits are: Phillies, Cleveland, Giants, Stros, Brew Crew, Sox

I'm not sure how that changes my point.

I really hope things work out at the last minute and he joins the Sox. Great baseball name. Two o's, two i's, two z's. Very cool.

Evidently we now know who won't be roaming around out there in cf for the Sox when this season begins. JBJ of course was a favorite for many of us. Wish that he could have hit just a little bit better. looks like he will get the money he wants from someone else. Good for him and good luck to him. time to move on.

Source: Jackie Bradley Jr. is heading to the Milwaukee Brewers. Two-year, $24 million deal with a player option after the first year.

2/24 wouldn’t be a good signing for the Sox. Too much $$$ IMO.

I think we expected it to be too much and this is even more than we expected. Good for JBJ, he deserved it, but beyond what the Sox should pay.

The whole premise of this string has now been blown up, with most of those mentioned signing with other clubs. It appears now to come down to a choice between Kike, Verdugo and Duran. I think it will come from those already in the system, as taking a so-so player from outside to fill the void when we have better internally makes no sense to me.

Way too much. Good for him.

Not at all. Very good deal by the Brewers, who were very impressive in free agency this year, getting both Bradley and Wong on two year deals...

Not at all good for JBJ? He got 50% more money than MLBTR predicted.

My “not at all” comment was on your “way too much.” It’s $1mill per year over his last salary (before being pro-rated).

The biggest factor to me in the two years, however...

But it was generally agreed here that the $11 million he got for 2020 was several million too high.

I was surprised by it, but the Sox offered it before arbitration.
