Is "soiled" better?

hmm - here we go again? I'll let it go and still believe that DD did a great job for us. If you weren't willing to take the risks, you shouldn't be able to enjoy the wealth.

I know how Kimmie feels about DD, so that remark was directed towards her.

(I am fine with what DD did.)

I'm not terribly excited about 2021. I think the storyline is "return to form". I think it will be a year of transition, where by the end of the year the team will be rocking, but too late to make the playoffs. 2022 is where it's at. Of course let's let the free agent chips fall where they may before that's set in stone.

IMO, having Cora there will be great for the younger players. I know Devers thrived under his direction.

I totally agree, and vets like him, too!

Devers did prety well without him, too. After a very slow start, Devers posted a .923 OPS from August 18th through the end of the season. But that .556 OPS in the first 23 games brought his numbers down.

Still, just a bad 23 game stretch. His OPS after 25 games in 2019 was .690 under Cora. Devers might just be a slow starter...

Now compare his defense from 2019 to 2020.

Didn't he start 2019 with a slew of errors as well?

Slow starter...

In both 2019 and 2020, Devers had 8 errors in his first 28 games. In 2019, he had a longer season after that to show his improvements.

Yes, errors are hardly the best defensive metric, but in the shorter 60 game season, it's really tough to use anything else because he lacked any time to make up for his mistakes...

I do enjoy watching young players improve so no matter in 2021 I don't think it'll be a complete waste.

I do think the team owes it to the fans and position players alike a respectable starting pitchers in all 162 games. Bring out the young guns.

Was it the year after the E Rod trade that he had a very good season? The team sucked but I made sure to watch his every start....

He is a slower starter because he comes out of the winter hibernation period with a hockey goalie body and has to remember that he's a well paid athlete and he has to actually perform to be around for a big time contract!

Devers' focus seemed inconsistent without Cora, who was a big influence. Then again, playing for a last place team does that to many guys... meanwhile, a whole lot of good players throughout the MLB had bad years that may be attributed to different routines due to the pandemic.

The player doing the worst after Cora left was JD. (Not trying to say Cora would have made a difference.)

But being unable to review in game footage might have been a factor...

Hey! Careful what you say about hockey goalies!! (Maybe we USED to look like Gump Worsley, but I don't think goalies in the past 40 years or so look like that.)

At around 6 feet and 240 pounds while at such a young age, Cora may want him to lose 10 or 15 pounds as a way to extend his playing time and improve his defense. The kid has tremendous potential as a hitter and his glove isn't all that bad. It has been his wild throws that have resulted in many of his errors.

pretty much an expected response - he's gone but just keep it rolling

Kinda like the Ben-bashing, rolling wagon did, and occasionally continues.

I might be wrong, but I think 700hitter is the only serious Ben-basher here, calling him coffee boy and so on.

I count 4 serious DD-bashers: Slasher, Larry Cook, kimmi and notin.

I seem to remember there were more, and maybe there is only one left- 5 years after Ben has been gone. Maybe there will be only one persistent DD basher 5 years from now.

I'm betting on Kimmie. (No offense, Kimmie, I agree with a lot of your points.)

I think you can count dgalehouse as a Ben Basher.

My impression is more that he can't figure why people bash DD while praising Ben.

I see it more as defending Ben against the bashing than praising him.

I also see it as an attempt to give Bens some credit for DD's success by providing him with a farm full of desirable prospects who allowed DD to acquire the players needed to get to the promiseland.

Well, we see some of all of it, really.

I would be fine if we could move on from it. Both those guys won titles, both are gone, Bloom is here, Ben is in Pittsburgh, DD is involved with the Nashville deal.

not sure that I was much of a ben basher but if someone wants to continue with the juvenile crap that's fine. I've used the expression here on more than one occasion - chumming the waters. I have always been perfecting willing and fine moving forward but hey I think that I'm entitled to my opinion.

Not sure what's juvenile, but I welcome all opinions.

Well, really I think they’re more equal. But Cherington walked into a horrible situation...
