The only positive thing about the argument that this is Bloom's brilliantly conceived scheme for getting Mookie to sign a long term contract with the RS is that no one, even its proponent, could possibly believe it. Just stop.

LOL.

I'm not saying we will sign him, next winter, but if we really want him long term, this was the best way to set ourselves up to be able to afford paying him what he wants without paying mega taxes.

If we were never going to sign him, then this was the best we could do.

Either way, this had to be done.

Unless Graterol turns into an outstanding, injury free pitcher.

I dunno he has already had TJ and missed a couple of months with a shoulder problem last year. Maybe he comes back from all of that and is great but projecting him as a RP when the Sox really need a starting pitcher is not inspiring much confidence. Time will tell.

We were never going to sign him, because they were never willing to pay him as the second best player in baseball. The negotiations were insulting, and we insulted him multiple times.

Talk is cheap. Unfortunately, all that matters is the money. Greedy owners and greedy players are slowly murdering professional baseball. Its dying a slow, brutal death. Death by a million papercuts (literally, from the dollars).

They have to undo this; the trade simulator gives it a big red "Oops! Not accepted."

I mean, a sophomore and two middle schoolers for the second best player in baseball, plus the pitcher who beat LA twice in the WS -- at half price (I know, probably literally)?

Bloom stood firm and got three guys back, increasing the odds by 33% that at least one of them will be part of or contribute as a trade chip to the next good Red Sox team. At least now, Verdugo can truthfully be called the centerpiece of the package... because before it was impossible to be the center of just two guys (unless he was sitting on Brusdar's package).

Now, who predicts Graterol will be a bigger key than LA's other two key acquisitions in their next postseason run?

Right. And cinema is ruined because we pay actors too much. And no one in the USA supports big businesses because their CEOs make too much. No one follows pro football anymore. And no one buys Apple computers. Oh for the good ole days before unions and free agency ruined everything, back when owners thought about nothing other than the happiness of fans.

Or you could ignore the 12 year slide in attendance figures. You could also ignore than fact that this years World Series games had less viewers than an average regular season NFL game. Your choice.

We still need a 5th starter, but with Downs in the pipeline, we can trade Chavis.

I really want chavis to be given until July and yes I get he’s looked overmatched.Hes not worth much now anyway .Just think he may figure it out .

I would have kept Graterol, and I like both Downs and Wong.

I think the Sox don’t keep Downs. No way the Red Sox can have a player named “Jeter” on their team. Also they need a SP...

Well, according to all the owners and officers, they aim to compete this year and every year, dammit -- so now that they've reached their goalnotamandate... you can be sure they'll start making some moves. Chaim be jukin soon!

I think his stock is as high as it will ever be.

You are kind of right.....let me fix it.

His stock was once high, but now.....I think his stock is as high as it will ever be, because it continues to fall.

I could see dealing Chavis and keeping Downs. But you have to have faith in the Lin/Peraza combo at second. I’m lukewarm there...

Trade Bradley for Ian Kennedy and sign Yasiel Puig for RF?

I'm not thinking much about 2020, but Chavis doesn't add much to my view of the '20 2B position, anyways.

I'm also not for just handing Chavis away. I suggested a JBJ & Chavis for Matz & Smith offer.

The kid isnt going to rake in the majors next season. He got in 12 games in AA. He’s likely ticketed back to AA with an outside chance to make it to AAA if he continues to rake. He’s got a chance to be a mid year call up in 2021

Unless he hits like Devers and Beni did in AA.

Jeter Downs is a very intriguing prospect. I like him

Good Lord. Now I'm not only rooting for a SS who insisted on having Derek Jeter's number I also have to be rooting for a kid named Jeter. The indignity of it. :(

Transition Chavis to be backup OF?

Connor Wong and Jeter Downs are impressive prospects. They may help down the road or be put into another trade later to get players who can help this year or next. My guess is that Bloom will play the long game.
